If everyone currently involved could cease and desist discussing the current topic, and get back to the original topic of discussion.

If there is a rational, logic-based reason for temporarily suspending firearms ownership by those who are contemplating the decision to end their own existence, ultimately what is the reason? Why does society see fit to exercise authority and ownership over the life of the individual?

 

Maybe the same reason there are people who want to be able to exercise authority and ownership over a woman’s right to a decision about her own body.

 

in 15 years in mental health , I never lost a patient on my watch ( many tried) although some died while on pass or after discharge ..then again they were in a very controlled environment ...they were a creative bunch , guns, hanging, jumping,self immolation , ODs,throat and wrist slashing as well as driving a car off a cliff or into SF bay

 

I'm against "gun control". I'm against all laws except the law of do no harm to others.

 

I would say to those limitations and bans that if the public wanted to try it it would be fine with me. Does that make me anti-gun? Of course not. Was someone who wanted to make better seatbelts than the single lap belt anti-car? No. They just wanted to try something new. Do I think limiting the size of magazines would help curtail, or reduce the slaughter during a mass shooting? Probably not. But I have nothing against a concerned and frustrated public trying different approaches. There are enough 20 and 30 round mags around that would be grandfathered in.

 

The "public" also wanted Jim Crow laws which doesn't make it right. We have a Constitution to prevent local and Federal authorities from denying Americans their unalienable rights. The Constitution doesn't give us our rights, it limits the Federal government on what powers they have.
