Nearly lost in all the breathless comparisons by Democrats and the White House between Jan. 6 and the deadliest days in U.S. history – Pearl Harbor and 9/11 – was a news conference on Thursday afternoon by Reps. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.

One person was shot Jan. 6, and it was unarmed U.S. Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, who fired one fatal round into the neck of the Trump supporter. That was just one of the points the two lawmakers made as they offered a sort of stinging rebuttal to the Democrat-led commemoration of a year since the Capitol siege.

"It's very important for the Republican voice to be heard today, because it's the Republican voice, the Republican voter, and the Trump supporter that has been smeared constantly over this past year," Greene told reporters at the Washington, D.C., news conference.

Greene and other Republicans have sharply denounced the interruption of the "very important work" of Congress during its Jan. 6 debate on certifying President Joe Biden's Electoral College victory.

For his part, Gaetz laid out a detailed report by Revolver.News, published by former White House speech writer Darren Beattie, has been hailed by former President Donald Trump as an earnest attempt to get to the real story of Jan. 6.

"We are here to expose the truth, to ask key questions about what happened on Jan. 6, who animated the violence, the extent to which the federal government may have been involved," Gaetz told reporters.….

It is great that they spoke out. It’s important to get to the bottom of what happened one year ago. The truth has come out. Well done Reps. Gaetz and Greene!

Y’all are in full gaslighting damage control today

1/6 was an insurrection attempt by trumpers, no matter how much y’all scream, this is their legacy

They have been smeared constantly because they did it, excused it and are now defending it.

It was good that Trump and these two did not cede this day to Biden and the democrats. They now know that they will not get to politicize and make propaganda out of this day without it being challenged, confronted, and called out!

Wouldn’t an “insurrection” comprise of an actual armed group of people attempting to gain control? How does walking into a building with nothing but the clothes on your back quality as an insurrection?

Would you like for me to post the actual legal definition of the word because it does not require one be armed — just violence. I know definitions are difficult some times but we all cannot live in alt-reality.

I am not surprised you believe such is comical.

Correct. And there was no real violence. Pushing a few cops around doesn’t qualify. Sorry, Charlie.

Seems to me a year is long enough to build a case to charge someone with insurrection ...if it actually happened. So far we have assault and trespassing ...with years long sentences. But no charges for insurrection.

There was a riot. Rioters should go to prison.

...trespassers on the other hand, who don't engage in violence, theft or destruction should recieve a small fine for their first violation. Thats how it works everywhere else, unless one is a Trump supporter of course.

especially by the people with the highest percentage of gun owners. If they were really trying to do something, they would have come more prepared do do something. The "mostly peaceful" BLM protesters were more armed than this group of idiots.

Why is Ray Epps not arrested and charged? What is his relationship with the FBI and DOJ?

It was an attempt by Trump supporters to interfere with the orderly transition of power as laid out by the Constitution. There is simply no other way to describe it.
The riots in Seattle and Portland were riots. What happened on Jan 6, is what it is. You can't spin that into something else unless you want to lie to yourself.

Correct, the trumpers there were just as incompetent as their cult leader thankfully. That is why I used the word “attempted”.

If the term "insurrection" bothers them so much, let's just call it the 1/6 putsch... 1584414804.0794-smiley.gif

The Fascist State, per mouthpiece Garland (jeez are we lucky he was blocked from being a Justice) is talking about spending the next 3 years prosecuting potentially multiple thousands of people including people who weren't even in DC that day. Your side set off an actual bomb in the Capitol, no one remembers that. Your side has set fire to ICE facilities and federal courthouses (amongst tens of thousands of other buildings lol), no on remembers that. Your side has shot at members of Congress, no one remembers that.

Thats a fine argument, except the consequences are not being equally applied.

"One by one, the protesters, many wearing T-shirts that say "I am what's at stake," interrupt the proceedings by shouting slogans like "You're making a mockery of democracy!" or "Senators: Do your jobs and stop this hearing!" The police then warn that he or she will be arrested for any further disruptions. Minutes later, the person shouts again and is hustled out a side door.

Then another person repeats the process.

Eventually, the back two rows of the hearing room, which are reserved for the public, are empty, and another 20 or so visitors are escorted in from a line outside. They wait for their turn to shout and be arrested.

Overall, 70 people were arrested Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct on the first day..." "...The second day of hearings on Wednesday was marked by the same sort of shout-and-arrest pattern."
    ...
"The protesters are part of a nationwide campaign to disrupt the confirmation process...."
    ...
" "My goal is for this nomination to not go through," said Alison Dreith, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, who was arrested Tuesday. "The stakes have never been higher." "
    ...
"Dreith said she and the other arrestees were hustled down to the building's basement while wearing plastic zip-tie handcuffs and kept in a garage-like holding area. After about five hours, they were charged and released after waiving their right to a trial and paying a $35 fee."

Protesters continue to interrupt Kavanaugh hearings (yahoo.com)

I would, and I think even most Trump supporters would, be totally cool with charging everyone who merely demonstrated in prohibited areas on Jan 6 a $35 fee...

You're talking legacy but no one regards leftists as you've described despite dozens and dozens of politically motivated attacks on federal buildings. So why do you think the same will apply to others who engaged in relatively minor similar acts?

I must have missed where they were acting on behalf of or acting to promote a political party or politician

Have any sources for this or is it just typical deflection?
