Making it revenue-neutral is something I've been arguing for for a long time.

The other thing is to tax consumption rather than production. imposing a levy on manufacturers merely makes US manufacturing noncompetitive. There should be a standard carbon tax on all consumed goods, which can be reduced if you can prove less carbon used in the manufacture. Then competitive market forces would drive for the lowest carbon input, regardless of the country of manufacture.

(Should be greenhouse impact rather than just carbon)

(*)(*)(*)(*) these corporatist (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s. Thank goodness they are the "old guard". They are the reason that so many people left the GOP during HW Bush's reign. Reagan had to make deals with these (*)(*)(*)(*) burgers, but we don't.

Oh they get it... they get to pass these taxes on to the Middle Class. This is a huge scam.

Need to see the real details of this one. On the face of it, looks like BS the Democrats would come up with.

the oil companies appear to be global and not free market, that is why we have oil wars for republican presidents. a free market does not rely on cheap labor and war to be free.

if we make American oil companies only sell oil to Americans, we could have cheap gas and more high wage oil jobs for Americans.

Well don't that just beat all. Those dang fool Rockefeller republicans must be off their rockers. They tax our carbons and next thing you know that are taxing lead, iron, calcium, oxygen, uranium, and even what's inside your cranium because as science tells us we are a carbon based life form on the planet and we are made up with lots of carbon.

Does the liberal ilk actually expect to see a "film at 11" where any of the quoted people in the OP actually said these things and in context?

Baker and Shultz can join the Democrats and pound sand. Government doesn't need to have the ability to tax the air we breathe and we definitely don't want to give any more authority to the UN.

    According to the OP's link...

"The GOP elder statesmen – which include former secretaries of state James Baker and George Shultz, and ex-treasury secretary Hank Paulson – will urge Donald Trump’s administration to impose a “free market, limited government” response to rising global temperatures."

According to the article, the plan would "sweep away federal regulations limiting carbon dioxide emmissions" it claims a family of four would receive about $2,000 a year in dividends. and "Carbon dividends would increase the disposable income of the majority of Americans."

Sounds more like they are trying to get rid of the draconian Obama regulations.

    Think.

How does Obama Regulations have ANYTHING to do with this? You can get rid of those regulations without hitting American families for $2K a year. It's a money grab by big business funded by these (*)(*)(*)(*)ing RHINO's.

I think they are talking about taxing the corporations and passing the money to the people. My problem how is this business friendly and how will it affect job growth. I also dont like the government redistributing wealth

It sounds pretty screwed up to me. Taxing energy even more falls on the consumer. The burden won't fall on the companies providing it, just the people pumping gas in the car and paying their electric bills. Then they promise the tax to be rebated back through some federal tax rebate at their discretion based on some governments appraisal of who should get one? Yeah boy, I can trust them with doing that. Not. Trump has promised to repeal some of the Obama initiatives that are to be put in place over time, just repeal them period and not offer this jacked up NEOCON ruse.

The problem is taxing corporations is always passed on through pricing. In this case, energy costs. It will curtail demand because people will once again cut back on consumption. That reaches an equilibrium and so the energy companies once again raise prices because their volume is down.

Reminds me on a real world basis of power companies paying for advertisements to limit consumption and be thrifty. Okay, so people cut back and whining utility companies go to the Public Service Commission to raise rates because their profits have fallen. It's insanity.:roflol:

It really sounds like some convoluted plan that accomplishes nothing but adding more bureaucracy to our already bloated federal administration..........that and another wealth redistribution tool. Some Republicans need to be sent home, they are Democrats in red uniforms.

A tax on a corporation is always passed directly to the customer / consumer. It's bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

Your preaching to the choir here. I compare it to asking he government to tax your parents more because the government will give you an allowance . The consumer pays all the taxes and pays for all the regulations in the end
