Been playing them since my Timex Sinclair which loaded from a cheap cassette player. Not a lot of shooters although playing Sniper Elite 4. Flight sims, combat sims, grand strategy, racing more my style. When I was a kid we play cowboys and indians, cops and robbers, American and Germans and we shot and killed each other or just imaginary enemies. Real guns were easier to get. We didn't go out and commit mass murders. We knew right from wrong, we knew how to behave, we had fathers. My son and grandsons play paintball, big tournaments. I don't ever recall a mass murderer being a paintball player.

I've heard two Phd's tonight talking about the problem no one wants to talk about and that is the problem with young white males who have been rendered fatherless. I think there is an LA Times story out today saying the the same thing for the most part. The breakdown of the family and the ostracisation of men especially white males but also in the black community the marginalization of fathers is rearing it's ugly head.

This author was one I listened to

    https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Boys-So...st+boys+book&qid=1565051418&s=gateway&sr=8-11

And his research shows that 90% of young white males involved in these violent acts come from broken homes with no father figure.

The question is what do we do about it. This is not about Trump or white nationalism and there is little the government can do about it. It's a societal problem so what are we as a society going to do about it.

The reason they don't is because we are armed.

AAA promotes the safe use of cars, like the NRA promotes gun safety, and tough penalties for perps using a gun in a crime. Both groups wouldn't advocate drinking while driving or shooting.

Yeah right. It wouldn't matter with the firepower the government has, but you keep living in colonial times while innocent people are slaughtered.

What is the reaction in the USA? Blame video games, mental illness, white supremecy....anything everything other than what actually delivered death and destruction...a bloody gun.

You are from Australia correct? What is the percent of children particularly boys being raised in female headed single parent households there?

"In June 2012, there were 961 thousand one parent families, making up 15% of all families."

We are more than double that now and in the black community it is 80%.

"Between 1960 and 2016, the percentage of children living in families with two parents decreased from 88 to 69."
    https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2016/cb16-192.html

Put the lack of a father in a young boys life and he gets his importance and place in life from violent video games.....................

This is a discussion that has been going on since the 1980's.

The gun didn't commit the act, it was merely a tool. If not a gun something else. It's not a gun problem it's a societal problem.

Read the manifesto it didn't. Can you say unequivocally it did, if so present the proof.

We've had mass shootings long before Trump, they are new or indicative of anything Trump.

They aren't going to do anything, but the suggestion that they won't because you have a gun is ludicrous in this day and age.

Not because I have a gun but because 50 million Americans possess 500 million guns. That's greater than all the armies on the planet combined.

Mass shootings are an insignificant blip on the US gun shootings. 55 shot in Chicago last weekend.

Interesting factoid. Again has nothing to do with video games.

    Excellent points.

I quit gaming same weekend my kid went away to college. So never got past COD3,

Played tons of area 51, mortal kombat, etc. I'm also well adjusted, stable, normal. For someone that is a little off, I can absolutely see it being a factor especially with what you described being slightly toxic.

Movies, tv, news, games, a big pile of glorified violence. GOT, TWD, Breaking bad, the wire, hugely popular and super violent. It all contributes if you are slightly off center.

In the 70s we had bb gun wars, played cops and robbers, and in high school It was normal to have a 10/22 and a 30/30 in my trunk for after school plans. But then the most violent thing on tv was barnie getting slightly physical with otis the drunk, bonanza and gun smoke. unless you want to include tom & jerry.

The fact that Americans own 500 million guns? Believe it or not it's still true.
