Good of him to help those new Republicans recently elected to office with reading disabilities. Maybe this will start a trend of reducing the size and verbiage of bills in the future to speed up the whole process of governing. Although it might be easier just to hook them up with a single reader in an office.

Johnson is an absolute MORON (and a Disgrace to the Senate).

    An absolutely ridiculous stunt.

I do wonder if he'll stay in the chamber the entire reading?

Making the little darlings HEAR first what they're signing rather than following The Sea Hag's dictum of "signing the bill to see what's in it"....my, my, what a NOVEL idea! Why, if we're lucky it just might catch on!

Let's be honest here. The Senate GOPers would reject the bill, no matter what was in it. They did the same with the ACA. They made Obama and the Dems compromise, for example with the public option, and then they turned around and ALL of them voted against it. This is just political grandstanding, nothing else. The GOP has returned to be the party of no, as expected the moment a Dem started occupying the WH.

You mean like the GOP rammed their tax cut through the House and the Senate within two weeks? Now, that the shoe is on the other foot, they whine.

Except if you pay attention Ron Johnson was the only senator in there to hear it.

So...."pass it to find out what's in it" sort of thing?
You dont imagine Dems are not every bit as obstructionist when it's reversed?

This should be standard practice. If it takes too long to do it, then it’s too bloated in the first place. And there’s a record on video.

Petulant children rule the roost with Republicans these days. This act is a complete waste of time and money.

    I'm fine with this.
It will only delay passage a day or so and it highlights the contempt for which the Republicans and Trump supporters have for Americans in need.

    It also stinks of desperation.

Everyone should be fine with it. They should all have to read every bill they vote on.
It would have been even better if the RP had pushed hard for an alternative that gave more direct relief to the victims of the lockdown.
A 1 page alternative with the same funding would have been worth reading.
Never expect much from professional politicians.

Love it! Let them listen to all the crap they put into the bill. Great idea make them hear the pure amount of BS they push.

Complex laws are a hallmark of corrupt political regimes.
Presidents who effectively resist a corrupt Congress will regret it

“The system is functioning precisely how they want it to function. Gridlock, complex laws, highly technical bills, and regulations that target specific groups have a commercial purpose for the Permanent Political Class.” EXTORTION, "How Politicians Extract Your money, Buy Votes, And Line Their Own Pockets, Peter Schweizer, HMO, NY, NY, 2013, p. 8.

I am sure you were fine with the GOP not reading every line of the tax cut act, when they rammed it through within two weeks along party lines. Biden at least tried to involve the GOP. As is shown over and over and over again, they have no interest in ANY compromise. Just grandstanding.

It would be nice if they were actually required to sit and listen to it.
The Sergeant At Arms would have confiscate all the Ipod Nanos and swim buds for it to work.

The Republicans had it as part of a 6000 page bill with 6 hours before voting.
Know anybody that can read that fast? I sure don't.

You obviously do not read my posts. Republican politicians stink on ice. They should all have to sit while every bill is read to them.
The RP, if it wanted to be a serious opposition party, should have pushed hard for an alternative bill that would deliver all of the funding directly to the victims of the lockdown.

They do not call the "GOP" "The Stupid Party" for nothing.
