Honestly, I would be more acceptable of tariffs based on worker's rights and work conditions, safety standards, etc. I feel that would go farther towards leveling the playing field for American workers than standard of living/cost based tariffs.

With free trade and free movement of capital, and the elimination of government enforced privileges for big business, the working poor and middle classes have far more opportunity to compete in the market and improve their standard of living.

Honestly, I care not for safety standards if we all eventually have to work for 2 dollars an hour, while everything in society continues to rise in price. Which you know (*)(*)(*)(*) well is what they have planned. But I get what you are saying. Imagine leaving slavery legal, but requiring masters to have safe field conditions. Money is everything in the scheme things.

Right, but safety standards, working conditions, environmental standards, etc. would account for more of the cost differences in off-shoring production than merely labor cost differences. I'd take $2.00/hr in 1912 dollars vs. $15.00/hr in 2012 dollars. It's all relative to the economy and the value of the dollar. Hard to predict exactly where that might go in the hypothetical scenario where we eliminate the influence of big business upon government, but these are small points that can be hammered out once the game is won.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Paul is coming along nicely in SC. I had my doubts he was gonna have a good showing there, but I'm happy to be incorrect.
