So your the new White Person Spokesman, who speaks for all white people everywhere? Please don't impose your own personal shortcomings on everyone else.

To be honest, we don't have the problems we used to have. Civil Rights laws are entirely antiquated and unneeded in modern society. Anti- rascists are so prevalent that anyone practicing racist business practices would be shut down as quickly as they opened. Why has everyone forgotten the tools we have to sanction someone we disagree with that aren't laws forcing people to think a certain way?

Someone puts up a sign at their business that says "White's Only". Due to our PC media, it goes on the news soon after. People stop going to the business, but he can still run because of a few hardcore racists who keep buying from him. But oh (*)(*)(*)(*), be forgot about the right of assembly. Watch as a picket line forms around his business and customers refuse to cross it out of shame, driving his business bankrupt. No discriminatory laws required. ;)

I guess you ban all women from public swimming pools? Where did you ever get the idea that only black women use straighteners and chemicals in their hair? My daughter and 2 granddaughters (all white) have very curly hair and periodically use straighteners and "chemicals" to change their hair style. Are you suggesting that they are a "public nuisance" or shouldn't be allowed in a public pool? Or is it just black women's "cultural traits" that you're concerned about? :fart:

It's racist to ban black people from public pools or other places in order to allow white people to associate with only other white people. If they want to associate only with other white people, they'll have to do it in a private venue.

Most of them, yeah. Take a look at our elected leaders if you don't believe me.

    What am I imposing?

    Why shouldn't it?

To attribute this to the entire Conservative movement is either hugely ignorant or insincere.

Not a good choice, my friend.

If your first statement is true, then you are admitting that Affirmative Action or any activity which gives to minorities something which is not given to majorities is racist. (and I agree)

I fully agree with second statement.

Pretty much but so what? Whether other people or policies are racist makes absolutely zero difference to whether you or I are. The existence of Affirmative Action policies doesn't make other racism any more acceptable.

As the history of our country clearly demonstrated, racists, like cockroaches and rats, like to cluster togehter to get strength in numbers and to feed off the company and encouragement of each other's hate and lies.

Too, a major source of "entertainment" for racists is to ambush unsuspecting minority people in the course of the regular routine, and to humiliate, harass and abuse them unexpectedly and enjoy the fear and dismay of the selected minority target.

Take a look at the positive comments of the poor woman who bought a pizza and gets a racist message on her receipt! I am sure the workers laughed their butts off at her reaction, and the other "clever sayings" they foisted onto unsuspecting people to ruin the victims' dinners and their day.

Well, if it IS "unconstitutional",t he country went 270 years with loads of Far MORE "unconstitutional" LAWS on the books, which cost minorities their lives, their livelihoods, and a fair place in the USA's opportunities for opportunity!

I tell you what! Let's go ONLY 100 years with laws ENFORCING the EQUAL treatment of citizens in the public marketplace, and THEN we can back off on any of these "unconstitutional" laws?

The universities and jobs have policies that continue to give advantage to those who benefited from the racist LAWS of the past (like "heritage admissions of the children of alumni from days when NO MINORITIES could attend these schools).

When adequate time has passed to eliminate the advantage from past institutional and legal racism, we can certainly FAIRLY do as you suggest.

Nope. And who was "routinely treated as "second-class citizens" in this example? We are talking about a single pool owner discriminating against Blacks, not the Jim Crow Laws of the Deep South.

The government has the power to tell you who you can invite into your house? Where do you live.

Why do you want the government to have so much power over our lives? I have MUCH more faith in individuals and a free market system than I do in our corrupt government.

It's unlikely that the public wouldn't be outraged over this incident (especially in an area with a Black population of 45%).

Do you think the government's forcing of a racist business owner to accept all races cures them of their racism? Of course not. It merely sweeps it under the rug.

And what about those who were discriminated against because of government-sponsored programs like Affirmative Action? Affirmative Action is clearly discriminatory and, according to the law, illegal. Yet, this racist program is still in place nationwide, and those in favor of it fail to see their own hypocrisy.

It removes the example for children of the public hate and humiliation of racism.

And racists LOVE the opportunity to publicly humiliate and torment the object of their bigotry.

That is an obscenity the country is quite within its rights to ban from the public square and businesses, just like banning pooping in the streets.

You want to have a Nazi or KKK club? Do it in your living room or rent a private hall, But don't hang a sign, and you are free to do what you want.

Then let these racists scumbags live in their own squalor. Why force these bigots to accept others when they go out of their way to get as far away as possible from those that they hate?

Just like we have the freedom to love freely, we also have the freedom to hate freely (as long as you are not acting out on your hatred).

Harassment and abuse of this nature was already a criminal act before the Civil Rights Act. Due to the Jim Crow Laws, however, this criminal act was not enforced when the victim was Black. Thus, the problem was the GOVERNMENT, not the individual.

Making fun of someone behind their backs, as petty and immature as that is, should not be a crime.

When did I say that racism and racist laws didn't exist in our history? Just because that I don't agree fully with the Civil Rights Act (since it imposes on personal freedom) does not mean that I agree with the Jim Crow Laws. On the contrary, I believe that the government shall may NO law that discriminates people based on race. This, of course, includes Affirmative Action, which is sponsored by states and the federal government.

I have a better idea. Let's not wipe our @sses with the Constitution and actually have a little respect for personal freedom.

Absolutely bogus. On the absolute contrary, universities across the nation pander towards minority special interest groups and advocate Affirmative Action, which is detrimental towards anyone who is not a minority and/or female. These universities and government jobs, which receive state funding, advocate this abhorently racist policy of Affirmative Action. This system judges people not on their merits, but on the color of their skin to fulfill an arbitrary quota.

Whereas I have no problem with a local private business-owner (like the pool-owner in the OP) displaying racists signs/rules, I have a HUGE problem with our government advocating racist policy, since the government has an infinitely greater impact on our lives than a local pool-owner.

Why must any time pass? Why can't we just agree, right here and now, that some people in society will alway be racist. Why can't we also just agree that freedom is the most important thing in our society, and advocating for more government involvement to solve a nonexistent problem just makes me think of that old adage: Be careful what you wish for.

I noticed that in 4 pages no one has thought to respond the entire reason the racist lady put up the sign.

The harsh chemical hair products that African Americans use was ruining the water quality of the pool leading to loss of revenue and extra expense that the lady may not have been able to afford regularly.

    Doesn't that matter at all?

I know if I was the owner of a pool, and many people were complaining about the hair products of another group of people using was ruining the water quality of the pool, I would be forced to act in some manner. Though not in such a gross way.

Ah, the classic, hackneyed "do it for the children example that's right out of the Prohibitionist playbook. So trite.

And will take place with or without the Civil Rights Act. Being a racist is perfectly legal today.

You are comparing a criminal act of "pooping in the streets" with a business owner wanting the freedom to allow which patrons comes into his store? Talk about apples and oranges.

Let's look at another example that does not involve race. Let's take a restaurant owner who trying to run a fancy steakhouse. He had a thriving business with many regulars who frequent his restaurant. Recently, he has noticed a few new patrons who bring their crying toddlers into the restaurant. His regulars complain to him that these screaming babies are making their eating experience unpleasant, and unless he does something, they will take their business elsewhere.

Now let me ask you, do you believe that restaurant owner has the right to put up a sign that says, "Nobody under the age of 5 allowed?"

How is renting a private hall any different than owning a private business?

Why not? If I am a racist business owner of a private establishment, and my public policy of racist offends you, then use YOUR freedom by not supporting my business and warn others that I am a racist and instruct them no to support my business. Better yet, open a competing business to drive me out of business ASAP.

There are many ways to handle this problem that are compatible with freedom and do not involve the government getting involved.

Sorry as a private owner you do NOT have the right to turn away people based on race.

You clearly did not comprehend any of my last several posts. If you read my posts again, it is very OBVIOUS that I knew this.

My argument was that this aspect of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits a private business owner from discriminating based on race, is unconstitutional (hence this back and forth debate between myself and other posters). I was advocating the libertarian-Constitionalist viewpoint on this issue.

Let me throw a similar example back at you that does not involve race:

Let's take a restaurant owner who trying to run a fancy steakhouse. He had a thriving business with many regulars who frequent his restaurant. Recently, he has noticed a few new patrons who bring their crying toddlers into the restaurant. His regulars complain to him that these screaming babies are making their eating experience unpleasant, and unless he does something, they will take their business elsewhere.

How is "whites only" at a private swimming pool worse than "blacks only" in our nation's capital?

I'm talking about the racist Congressional Black Caucus in congress.

Blacks who practice racism through segregation have no business complaining about whites who do not want to be around them either.

How about a sign that says "no hair products allowed" This is ridiculous and horrible. That person needs their head examined.

I was suggesting it would happeen if all the anti-discrimination laws were removed and private busineess were free to discriminate against whoever they wanted.

No, because my house isn't open as a service to other people (if it was, say as a hotel, they could).

Your corrupt government is a result of individuals acting within a free market. Neither totalitarian government nor complete individual freedom are the right way to go. I'm talking about finding a practical balance.

But in an area with a much smaller Black population, maybe there wouldn't be as much outrage? If it hadn't hid the news, maybe there wouldn't have been any at all?

You can't change what people think but you can change what they do. Discrimination also feeds itself - children growing up in an environment when active racism is normal and acceptable are more likely to practice it themselves.

I've already said I disagree with Affirmative Action so this strawman is even more irrelevant than usual. Debate with me, not the stereotype you're imaging me to be.

Well, what if black kids were peeing in her pool? Wouldn't she be just as equally responsible to maintain the cleanliness of her pool? Some of these folk simply don't give a rat's ass about rules and regulations because they be ig'nant, yo'! Personally, I wouldn't want some jheri curl-wearing hoodlum oiling up the water in my pool.

That is the goal of communism... aka liberalism. To destroy free enterprise and leave us no choice but to be slaves.
