A bill from state Rep. R.J. May, R-Lexington, would require the South Carolina Department of Administration to offer any president acquitted of impeachment twice to be buried on State House grounds

The bill is a rebuttal to one introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, which would bar any president impeached twice from being buried at Arlington National Cemetery. The U.S. House bill would also bar the federal government from spending money on statues, monuments or symbols commemorating any president who was impeached twice.

Being buried on State House grounds would not be totally unprecedented. In 1799, Swanson Lunsford, a Revolutionary War captain, was buried on the southwest corner of the grounds. He is the only person buried at the State House, according to Historic Columbia.

I read about the first bill the other day. I know they can't specify this is for Trump but what's the issue? Why can't an impeached President be buried at Arlington National Cemetery? Is it like banishment after death?

And, who did Lunsford tick off? He's the ONLY person buried at the State House and has been there alone since 1799?

Yah... I covered that in the OP.... But while there was like a .001% chance T**** would want to be buried in Arlington, there's a ZERO % chance he would want to be buried in South Carolina...

So I'm not sure how this counters that, but if it gives you spiritual comfort that he might have one guaranteed place available for his everlasting rest, I'm cool with that...

The U.S. House bill is a bill of attainder and juvenile retribution. The Democrats need to grow up and take their jobs seriously for a change.

 

I think it's pretty serious to officially ensure no federal money is spent honoring an impeached insurrectionist... We don't want future generations have to go through the Confederate statue thing again, do we?

But T**** probably has 12-18 good free months ahead of him, so no rush on passing that one..

I have family buried at Arlington and as far as I'm concerned if you or your spouse didn't serve this country you didn't earn the privilege of being buried there. The last president who earned that privilege, IMO, was George H.W. Bush.
