    Well in this case thewhole thing is stupid. They chose the song, sing the words, nobody will melt or be a convert....it is not like they are preaching.

    According to the creation of both religions and the Old Testament.

    I find a school who is funded by tax dollars shouldn't be playing religious music.

    If the school played music from your religion, would that bother you?

    Separate groups with different cultures living in the same country is your definition of a diverse melting pot? Interesting opinion.

    If the students were singing the song of their own volition, then you'd be absolutely right. The problem is the teacher instructing the students to sing the song. This creates an untenable position for any non-Christians, especially those of other religious faiths. Pretend you're Jewish for a moment. You're in music class and the teacher is having the whole class sing "Christ the savior is born" as part of Silent Night. You don't believe Christ to be a savior. In fact, saying so is blasphemy. You can either: 1) commit blasphemy, 2) just not sing that particular part or song and risk getting called out by the teacher (which is likely), or 3) forgo the concert altogether and make it really clear to your fellow students that you're different. Is that something taxpayer money should be going towards? Hearing words is not a big deal. Being essentially peer-pressured and coerced by an authority figure into saying words that directly contradict your religious beliefs is definitely a problem.

    So God sends contradictory and incompatible messages to people? Still a foolish arguement.

    Your misconception of cultures not blending into a melting pot.

    - - - Updated - - -

    God doesn't send any message to people lol .... It's in the man written bible that they share a god and in the written history of their religion . Whether a god really told someone that is up to you.

    if a teacher was organizing the event, then the teacher would be responsible, in fact probably the reason the teacher tried to backdoor the song in

    If religion can be added to the schools.....they cannot complain if it is taken out.

    Freedom of speech is universal.

    In her biography on Voltaire, Evelyn Beatrice Hall wrote the phrase: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" (which is often misattributed to Voltaire himself) as an illustration of Voltaire's beliefs. I am sure you are familiar with this statement, so you will understand why everyone here has a right to express an opinion on this, and every other, matter. This is a discussion board, the raison d'ĂȘtre of which is (strangely enough) discussion.

    I have encountered this attitude before, that the non-religious should be precluded from discussion of religious or quasi-religious matters, but I do not believe that to be productive or even useful. I am neither atheist nor particularly religious, but I believe that religious matters are capable of logical examination, provided one is sensitive to the feelings of people for whom these are fundamental beliefs.

    I believe I have given sufficient reason as to why the poster concerned should be allowed to participate in this discussion, would you not agree? :)

    they prefer to add it and then complain about it being removed, when it never should of been there to begin with

    some Christians seem to think their religion can't survive without a government take over of their religion...

    Bush's faith based initiatives gave Obama's old church over a million dollars, that is just one church that needed bailed out by the government

    Two people from different cultures can still become a couple. That proves nothing. Furthermore, exceptions rarely disprove the rule.

    No that is not true.....It is the tune of a popular British song
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Anacreon_in_Heaven
    the lyrics:

    To Anacreon in Heav'n, where he sat in full glee,
    A few Sons of Harmony sent a petition;
    That he their Inspirer and Patron wou'd be;
    When this answer arrived from the Jolly Old Grecian;
    "Voice, Fiddle, and Flute,
    No longer be mute,
    I'll lend you my name and inspire you to boot,
    And besides I'll instruct you like me, to intwine,
    The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

    The news through Olympus immediately flew;
    When Old Thunder pretended to give himself airs.
    If these Mortals are suffered their scheme to pursue,
    The Devil, a Goddess, will stay above stairs.
    "Hark", Already they cry,
    "In transports of joy,
    Away to the Sons of Anacreon we'll fly.
    And besides I'll instruct you like me, to intwine,
    The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

    "The Yellow-Haired God and his nine lusty Maids,
    From Helion's banks will incontinent flee,
    Idalia will boast but of tenantless Shades,
    And the bi-forked hill a mere desert will be.
    My Thunder no fear on't,
    Shall soon do it's errand,
    And damme I'll swing the Ringleaders I warrant,
    I'll trim the young dogs, for thus daring to twine,
    The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

    Apollo rose up and said, "Pry'thee ne'er quarrel,
    Good sing of the Gods with my Vot'ries below:
    Your Thunder is useless"--then showing his laurel,
    Cry'd "Sic evitable fulmen' you know!
    Then over each head
    My laurels I'll spread
    So my sons from your Crackers no mischief shall dread,
    While snug in their clubroom, they jovially twine,
    The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

    Next Momus got up with his risible Phiz
    And swore with Apollo he'd cheerfully join-
    "The full tide of Harmony still shall be his,
    But the Song, and the Catch, and the Laugh, shall be mine.
    Then Jove be not jealous
    Of these honest fellows,"
    Cry'd Jove, "We relent since the truth you now tell us;
    And swear by Old Styx, that they long shall intwine,
    The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

    Ye Sons of Anacreon then join hand in hand;
    Preserve Unanimity, Friendship, and Love!
    'Tis yours to support what's so happily plann'd;
    You've the sanction of Gods, and the Fiat of Jove.
    While thus we agree,
    Our toast let it be:
    "May our Club flourish Happy, United, and Free!
    And long may the Sons of Anacreon intwine,
    The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

    There is no war on Christians

    Actually the borrowed the tune.

    I can see that multiculturalism is a failure, which is why several European leaders have said just that. The existence of a few Muslim/European romances, for example, doesn't discount the fact that there has been irreparable harm done in the name of diversity. Sorry you can't see that.
