Link: Students in Seattle Public School Told Love of Reading and Writing is ‘White Supremacy’

A parent has shared a disturbing worksheet provided to students in a Seattle Public School high school English class as part of Black Lives Matter at School Week with KTTH radio host Jason Rantz.

Rantz reports that students in a World Literature and Composition class at Lincoln High School were given a handout with definitions of the “9 characteristics of white supremacy.”

Among the examples is “Worship of the Written Word” because it is “an erasure of the wide range of ways we communicate with each other.”...

...“I feel bad for any students who actually internalize stuff like this as it is setting them up for failure,” the father explained to the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH.

The father asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution against his child by Seattle Public Schools. He said the other pieces of the worksheet were equally disturbing.

The worksheet labels “objectivity,” “individualism,” and “perfectionism” as white supremacy. If students deny their own racism — or that any of the nine characteristics are legitimately racist — is also white supremacy...

I'm looking forward to our resident holy wokesters stepping up to defend this neurosis.

The father was very smart to remain anonymous. Biden's DOJ would have got him just like they got innocent pro-life protesters for basically praying. Always gotta have one eye open with these people (they cannot be trusted at all!!!)

Of course not, we can't have a generation that is allowed to think for themselves.

Oh, I don't believe the assignment said they had to accept "white supremacy" I believe they were also allowed to refute it.

Sounds like a pretty solid list, from their perspective, to me.
Did you actually look at it?

That's like saying they're "allowed" to refute Holocaust deniers. Just when you think the left can't dig any deeper, it reaches its collective colon and dives right in.

They are allowed to refute holocaust deniers.
You disrespect American young folks if you truly believe that they are not capable of making cognizant
decisions and must not learn about issues because they are not capable of understanding them.

Yes, they ought to be able to debate the points, because it may be a foreign point of view to some of the kids and examining it will bring clarity.

the proposition that literacy = white supremacy is worthy of anything beyond automatic condemnation.

One of the closing scenes in 1984 depicts the protagonist Winston Smith. He's finally betrayed and is now being tortured by the Ministry of Truth. Their objective is to get him to proclaim as truth something he knows is not. The reader is forced to ask why - why the time, effort and angst over an obvious lie? Then it hits you: because the lie is the point. The truest measure of absolute power isn't life or death. It's controlling what people think, and that's what this is about. Power and control. Therefore: The lie is the point.

Literacy, objectivity, individualism & perfectionism shall be considered hallmarks of white supremacy because the lie is the point. The 14 year old boy who raped those 2 girls in Loudoun County isn't a boy. He's a girl - he says so and Loudoun County agrees, because the lie is the point. The victim's dad who dared to speak up at the school board meeting was arrested and jailed because the lie is the point.

There is no lie the left won't tell; no evil it will not embrace to achieve power and control. The lie is the point.

How is the statement that white supremacists believe a narrow band of what is written that is full of misinformation and ignore other forms of communication the same as "the proposition that literacy = white supremacy"?
I think you are believing in a narrow band of misinformation.
Oh, and the Loudoun case is a fine example of the narrow band with of information believed by right-wingers because of their bias.

Your own source says "worship of the written word" not "literacy."
I do understand Orwell's 1984 and you are doing exactly what he has the Ministry of Truth do in the book, stating that someone can not be allowed to know about something, let alone evaluate it for themselves.
High school students are pretty smart and are able to make their own opinions and set their own values. You do not need to do it for them.

    Yes,
Seattle Public School Teach Love of Reading and Writing is ‘White Supremacy’
Is a totally false statement, but it is something a white supremacist would believe.

So you claim its appropriate to teach children, that love of reading and writing is white supremacy because they can refute it?
Is that the same case you made for teaching 3-5th graders about gay and trans sexuality issues?

Is that how it works in Math, English, Science, and History? You can just refute it?

I guess in the minds of the left, you can teach them that pedophilia is your right. Because, you know, they can refute it.

The most ridiculous claim I have ever read.

No, I think you are way off base here. That is what they are supposed to write about.

The State of Florida has just said that Communism must be taught at every grade level, that doesn't mean that Florida wants students to be communists.

I know of a writing assignment that was actually given stating that teachers should be allowed to lie about students to get them punished if they think the student was guilty of something. The students wrote and no one agreed with the statement. This led to a discussion after the fact about whether it was ok for a student to lie to protect another student from being punished. The lesson was about honesty.

Sometimes one needs to stop making assumptions. You are assuming that the teacher was teaching this to indoctrinate the student, perhaps the teacher was trying to get the students to think about how stupid that statement really is.

The students were given a handout with definitions of the “9 characteristics of white supremacy.
Which included the Love of Reading and Writing is ‘White Supremacy’

Which has nothing to do with your claims.

    Time to get specific.
You are believing a third hand story from the Gateway Pundit and believing it is presented truthfully and are drawing conclusions beyond that.
The story does not make sense the way it is presented, no school system would require something like that taught with a straight face. The only reason some posters here are willing to accept it is that it gives them another chance to put down someone they don't like. Truth and research are becoming irrelevant, some only care about being nasty to others even if it makes them themselves look stupid.
This is taken from the far right website the Gateway Pundit. It is not in the local Seattle newspapers or tv news. No substantiation is given: no school name, no teacher name no name of the person making the complaint no time, no copy of the assignment and is accepted without asking for a comment from the school. It is taken from a discussion on a local Washington radio talk show was republished by the Gateway Pundit.
The Gateway Pundit is rated as having an extreme right bias. Much of what it publishes is not factual. It has low credibility and deals with right wing propaganda, conspiracy theories and contains "fake news" (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/?s=Gateway+Pundit)

    Do your homework.

Right! A student was going to openly call bullshit. In Seattle. In a class preaching wokism.

Wait a second, you are trying to communicate in a language created exclusively by white people. Are you inadvertently participating in white supremacy?

No, English was created by white people, not white supremacists. They are not the same thing. White supremacists use English to spread racist ignorance, as seen above.

Why teach white supremacy at all?

Do they also teach Islamic Jihad and read Bin Laden to the kids?

The worksheet is part of a Socratic Seminar, which is all about thinking critically and discussing issues. The goal is to have students engage in discussions that would analyze things such as what their concept of White Supremacy is. If you've read some of the arguments of Socrates, then you know how he breaks everything down, splits every hair in order to expose fallacies and come to logical conclusions. The worksheet is part of the introduction to class discussion, and this sort of thing is not graded in the sense suggested by the worksheet. It's more like a way to get students to examine their assumptions about issues. In other words, Socratic seminars take students out of that rote memorization kind of learning and allows them to develop the critical thinking skills needed to question all that they're being taught.

If you are not biased against the people who willfully aided and abetted the rape of your daughter after the fact and then put at risk other girls for the sake of a damn foolish political argument you are either a damn fool or a power drunk moron. And what you stated in the first instance was does no appear to be the truth.

What school system helps students become unemployable. At least they are prepared for America 2.0: "Sorry, you are being paid not to work because you are too stupid."
