I thought she was out of the game as she said she didn't have any interest in political office the last couple of election cycles but the lil lady as coming back and could be the nominee in 2016.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...doleezza-rice-stamps-her-ticket-for-20162020/

TAMPA — The next time Republicans are searching for a presidential candidate, rest assured: Condoleezza Rice will be a part of that conversation.

Rice’s speech Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention was easily the best-reviewed of the week so far and, at times, even seemed to out-hype vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan’s keynote remarks.

The former secretary of state used her time on stage to deliver a speech that was at times wonky, at times red meat for the base, and at times personal reflection. It was good without being gimmicky — a trap other GOP speakers seemed to fall into.

Through it all, the audience was rapt.

And really, it’s not all that surprising. Rice’s popularity in the GOP seems to transcend whatever reservations exist about George W. Bush’s tenure in the White House and her close ties to it. And by delivering a rousing speech Wednesday, she created a new version of Condi that could put some distance between her and that resume.

Towards the end of her speech, Rice even alluded to the idea that she could be president.

“And on a personal note: A little girl grows up in Jim Crow Birmingham – the most segregated big city in America,” she said. “Her parents can’t take her to a movie theater or a restaurant, but they make her believe that even though she can’t have a hamburger at the Woolworth’s lunch counter, she can be President of the United States. And she becomes the Secretary of State.”

This wasn’t thrown into Rice’s speech on a whim; these speeches are meticulously combed for their content. And while it could be dismissed as Republicans again seeking to play up the electoral achievements of black and Hispanic members of the party, this seemed to take it a step further.

In other words, it’s clear that Rice — and Republican officials — are happy to have her name bandied about in the context of future presidential elections.

The question from here is whether she actually wants to be president — or serve in some other elected position (senator from California, perhaps?).

Rice has made a significant effort to stay in the political game in recent months, and there is clearly a place for her there. A recent Fox News poll in advance of Ryan’s selection as vice president showed that Rice was the No. 1 choice for the job, with 30 percent of Republicans picking her, well ahead of Ryan and even Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

Much of that could be attributed to the fact that she had higher name ID than the likes of Ryan and Rubio, but it shouldn’t be discounted as a reflection of enthusiasm for her role in the party."

Now compare her resume with that of the community organizer and part time Senator who voted present all the time and didn't even serve a full term at the national level because he started campaigning almost immediately for President that we have now. And yes I know that was a run on sentence.

It's going to take atleast another 10 years for the GOP to actually nomiante a woman for President (perhaps 6 if Hillary becomes President in 2016)....and yes, I'm remembering Sarah Palin or even Susana Martinez of New Mexico.

It's going to take atleast THIRTY years...and a big die-off of its current Base and replacement of them of folks who grew up after integration....before the Republican Party will nominate an African-American for President.

Specifically on the person named? Given Americans in the majority think the Bush Wars were mistakes?....Condoleeza Rice will NEVER be nominated for President by the Republican Party....ever.

That's because the GOP DESIRES to be lied to. Hell, George and Condi cost us only $3,000,000,000,000 and it was worth it to kick some Arab butt.

I think they might nominate her just as another stunt candidate. There are people in this country who would pay $3,000,000,000,000 just for another shot at Shock 'n Awe.

A woman. A black woman. A black woman whose sexuality is very much a question.

While I admire Ms. Rice deeply, and consider her nothing short of completely brilliant, there is no way that the GOP would, in my opinion, choose a black woman who very well is gay for any elected political office.

Reminds me of Crispian St. Peters (a 60's rock artist).

    Or dare I say, Kellog's Rice/Christies?

    - - - Updated - - -

You leftists seem desperate to deny GOP candidates whom we surmise that you deem truly dangerous for the leftwing to run against.

At least you're more transparent than Obama.

Sounds like the libbies are scared. Which makes Ms Rice look even better.

Unlike Dims, the GOP still chooses candidates based on qualifications and experience.

Again, leaving Ms Rice in a very positive light.

And yet she is more popular than Ryan and Rubio BEFORE she even entered the fray. Remember one of the polls was about who should be Romney's pick and that was a year ago when she was not even in the game. This constant assumption that Republicans would only pick a candidate that is white and male is really getting annoying. Herman Cain would likely have ended up being the candidate if he didn't turn out to be a womanizer. After his collapse is when Romney took over for good. Herman Cain was not the first front runner either so clearly Republicans in 2012 weren't "trying to get a token black guy in office" otherwise he would have been in the lead from the start.

I really really really hope that she doesn't get cold feet because she is a shoe in for President and not just VP. I like Paul Ryan, Christie and a couple others but Condie has a (*)(*)(*)(*)load of experience in various Cabinet and appointed positions. We are going to need at the very least someone like that or a governor the next time around to make up for the rank amateur community organizer and all the damage he has done through inaction and incompetence............they STILL haven't fired anyone for the Healthcare.gov debacle.

It'll never happen, in my opinion. There is absolutely no way that the Christian Taliban that is in the GOP would send a black woman of undetermined sexuality up as their candidate. There is simply too much hatred and bigotry within the GOP.

This is a blog post from a year and a half ago. Rice would not make it out of the primaries and frankly wouldn't get passed some of the questioning about the focus of the Bush Administration in the war on terror. Besides she will be on the BCS committee to choose the teams for the national championship tournament so that will take up a lot of time. ;)

What part of Dallas County has a 3 term hispanic lesbian sheriff did you miss?

You guys are so funny... its obvious you're looking at Condi Rice thru your own race-colored glasses.

Actually, if you read what you quoted, you would see I listed it as opinion.

It really, really is not at all hard to understand. Very simple stuff.

Now, as for the basis in reality, let's examine that statement. Segments of the GOP uses their cult beliefs to advocate direct discrimination towards homosexuals. I believe that within the GOP there is enough of that sort of ignorance, blatant bigotry based on biblical scripture, that Rice woudl never get the nomination.

Furthermore, within the GOP, there are plenty of white racists who dislike blacks. Just ignorant, backwards folks whose racism would not allow them to vote for a black person.

All in my good opinion of course. It is a shame. She is a smarty lady. Too bad that there are so many within the GOP whose bigotry would not allow her to go further.

I would need to see some serious credible sources that she is a lesbian. But I don't think Rice has much of a chance. Cheney and Rumsfield both rip her pretty bad in their books.

That would be a very dangerous combination for the Democrats.

I think the team would be far to moderate for the Republicans but the GOP could surprise me.

Dallas County voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012 (57.2% and 57.0% respectively), and Bush barely won the county in 2004 (50.4%).

Also, since 2004, only one Republican Statewide candidate has carried Dallas County (Former Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson in 2006).

There are some in the GOP who haven't flat-lined but, yes, your typical rank-n-file Republican ain't going to have any of Condi.

So far, we don't seem to be in any danger. Condi's just another novelty candidate in a very long list of novelty candidates. Hope she knows better than to run.

Undetermined sexuality? What's the basis of you questioning it?

And what's with the racist babble? The only people who talk about Rice's race are people on the left. You guys can't get it out of your heads.

I think she's a long shot unless foreign affairs, particularly relations with Russia, are a big part of the 2016 campaign. But I do think she has running for President in mind.

I'm a moderate conservative,,,so yes I see what you are saying. However we are talking Rice,,they love her, and Christie has the personality to eventually win over anybody. Most Republican and Democrat officials have to bend to their constituents when necessary, Christie is in New Jersey and like Romney in Massachusetts one may appear more Liberal or Conservative then they actually are.

People are aware of this and I believe would be willing to take that chance..
