Now this other second hand store has this drill press. It is a home made job run by an electric motor and pullies. It is smooth. But they ain't never open but when they were I got a good deal. They also have this hand carved Chinese coffee table.....couple breaks ...but nuthin too serious. ...

Question Du Jour { of the day }.
Can one be a Happy Camper in Winter. Most camping is done
in summer on a Vacation. What about Old Man Winter.
Or should Camping be like a Christmas Holiday.
I dunno. I'm open to different viewpoint on this question.
I have thought many times long and hard about what to do in
the event one becomes stranded w/o electricity in the Wintertime.
Right there automatic Camping skiils are forced into play.
What about the Homeless living on the street in Winter.
They have to work harder in Winter to find better shelter and
ways to camp-out or camp-in.How come - Occupy Wall Street - kinda went away
    when Winter hit.
Because camping out is no piece of cake. Then why do Kids like the
Cub scouts cut their teeth on camping skills. Is an Eagle Scout better off
than some fuddy-duddy employer { Boss } who lives to have others
around him { or her } take care of their every need.I've never read
a Jack London adventure where there were people like waiters,
chauffeurs,Door Men and Butlers on hand.
    Maybe a little bit in - Trading Places - { 1983 } but that was a
Comedy ... Camping is Real Life.Ain't it.

When newspapers and cardboard boxes are gone the homeless will not be camping on the street in winter.

There are now countless abandoned old houses in many of our cities. Has water leaking through failed roofing destroyed the salvage value of the old lumber framing?

THE very definition of a classic movie.
Still holds up well today. With stars like Dustin Hoffman
and conservative Jon Voight still around and busy. Also N.Y.City
busybodies like Sylvia Mills at age 94 who somehow managed an
Academy Award Nomination { supporting actress } for less than
10 minutes playing a really snooty New Yorker, acting slutty
    and smug.

If you can find the stuff that isn't succumbed to rot or insect damage. There is also wall and flooring. Not to mention old fireplace mantels and trim. I guess ya give it your best guess. Some would think it might not be worth the labor....and some dismantled material involves skill to take apart. T&g comes to mind. With most stuff you start at the top...use a flatbar under the nails...and I always lose the first row. Once you find the proper place to start .....be patient....and don't tear the stuff apart. And usually you start where the builder stopped.

Yep, you can get dinged even if they are a troll. It also depends on the way you call them the troll.

I was asking for a friend.... so a picture of a troll may have been a little too blatant?

You think Home Depot will buy your stuff? Some places buy reclaimed lumber. I was thinking about using mine for my own house and having plenty of wood for my home projects. And maybe get a flea market stall....under cover of course. I mean really...it doesn't take a lot of skill to make furniture better than Ikea. Or replacing some of the Ikea particle board.

Ya but Heart pine is fat. That means it is full of chemicals like turpentine and tar. May get a creosote fire.

A Camper does not necessarily need a bed of rocks surrounding
a camp fire.As seen on many a Hollywood flick.
    There does need to be a backstop or Fire Reflector { can be a stack of wood }
at the camp fire to allow the wind to not carry flames off and also to help
the wind in stoking a fire.Especially in Winter when a camper wants
the fire to help keep his camp site warm.

I think Home Depot or Lowes could find a market for lumber and other items salvaged from abandoned urban structured - if the price was right.

My wife bought me a personal weather station. The kind you mount up on a post outside, it measures wind speed, direction, rain, temp, humidity, u/v index, baro pressure. Wireless connection to a console that sits on the bar. It also is connect to my router and transmits the data to weather sites like weather underground. I’ve always been a weather watcher but this thing has shoved me into flat out geekdom.
I left for work this morning it was 31 deg, 37 mph wind, snow and freezing rain. Would have been a good day to stay home and chase her around the house.

I built the home that I just sold. Southern ca mountains, it was engineered to take a 6.7 M earthquake with a 75 pound per square foot snow load simultaneously. Exterior walls were full shear and the floor and roof were full diaphragm. Everything had a 4/12 nailing schedule. Not only would my arm have fallen off hand driving all of those nails, that many hammer blows would have probably beaten the structure apart before I got it done. Nail guns are much less violent.

They sell stuff that looks salvaged now. But I did go to Lowes to investigate t&g flooring that is not laminated. They told me it would have to be a special order. The stuff is place and click. Won't last near as long as solid wood. The stuff I get is over a hundred years old.

    Smarties Bar & Home Improvement.
I don't believe the two mix.
Bars are supposed to be places where a Gent can get away from
the Wifey & Kids and daily grind.Chores around the house and
what color curtains the Misses is considereing.
The only colors a true grown man need consider is whether
    a Light or dark Beer.
Plus there ain't no curtains in a real Bar/Tavern.
