Very popular during the Cold War for non commie countries as an answer to the AK-47. Fired a much larger cartridge and since many countries didn't really like the M-16 as an answer to the AK-47.

Excellent post. I would like to give an example of people who don't know anything about weapons spouting off about banning, restricting, limiting, etc.

Here is Dianne Feinstein, certified anti-gun KOOK. She wants to ban guns, yet is so clueless about them, she doesn't even know how to handle a gun. Here she is committing one the most basic of safety violations we normal Americans learn at MOMENT ONE when we learn about guns. You don't put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to pull it.

Dianne Feinstein, and clueless buffoons like her, should be ridiculed when they talk about guns- well, at least until they learn the basics about guns. Until then, why give morons like her the time of day on the issue?

That's one of my pet peeve with movies. Actors who haven't been trained in gun handling even though they're playing a character who is supposed to be a gun expert.

That and thinking mags and clips are the same thing.

I think there are those but do, but they know they can't get anywhere based on facts. And FACTS are what the OP is full of.

I'm surprised some liberal hasn't staggered by and called him a poopyhead.

Awesome, dude. I haven't read much of your stuff, but I think you can understand that one who is reading what you have to say here wouldn't come to the conclusion you're a liberal. I would love to see more liberals with the actual knowledge you have about guns and the surrounding issues being heard.

    Thanks for reposting your stuff.

I still remember Kari Wuhrer on Sliders, trying to play a badass soldier who for some reason always closed her eyes whenever she fired.

Emotional nonsense. The majority of crimes are committed with handguns and a significant portion of those are stolen or illegally acquired. Go after the one red herring and ignore reality.

I don't pretend to know a whole lot about guns, but how can a magazine that holds 100 rounds be considered to have a purpose for anything other than "assault?"

Once again, an Assault Rifle is a specific type of weapon. It is a compromise between the firepower of a rifle and the rate of fire, and easy of firing, of a submachine gun. This compromise is a weapon that is selective fire (generally selections between semi automatic fire and fully automatic, but can also have others like burst fire) and fires an intermediate cartridge. Intermediate means it's larger than a pistol round but smaller than a true full size rifle round.

..since it is moot, yeah, I'll go for it......what part of gun control did you have in mind? Bear in mind, people with broken minds are capable of doing anything and Holmes had a broken mind. No gun laws stopped him and possibly would not have. How he got the guns was through purchase. I may be wrong, and you certainly can correct me, but there is no background check for purchasing a carbine or rifle. He did not use an "assault weapon"....... but then again, nail clippers have been referred to by the TSA as potential assault weapons.
Let's start this dance and maybe we'll get a little more activity

I'm not arguing the technical definition of an AR-15. I'm arguing that 100 rounds goes beyond self defense into the realm of assault. What in the world else do you need that many rounds for before having to reload?

    Please answer my question.

Nice OP, Wolverine. Many in the media have made fools of themselves in the last week when attempting to discuss firearms. I've heard the AR-15 used in the shooting referred to everything from a AKC-50 to a AR-47 in the last week, and Thom Hartmann even flat out lied and said the killer used a fully automatic weapon.

By the way, I like what you did with the 10/22.

How is it assault? Assault is causing someone to think they are going to be harmed. If someone came running at you with an AR-15 with a 10 round magazine you're not going to feel unthreatened but suddenly feel threatened if the magazine is larger.

self-defense? ha...there was no self-defense in this fellows mind, but a 100 round clip does not accurately define "Assault Weapon", either. What does it matter if I have 100 round clip or a ten round clip for my 10/22, that does not make it an "assault weapon" by even the closest definition. (I know they don't make a 100 round clip for my 10/22)

I'm not aware of any 100 round clips for the AR-15.

I'm pretty sure you are correct. I'm not aware of very many firearms that have 100 round clips, especially over-the-counter firearms. I couldn't imagine the size, even for a 10/22 much less an AR-15. Wouldn't that almost qualify as a boat anchor?

100 round clips do not an assault weapon make. But I think AnonymouslyMe's point is that 100 round clips are not necisary for sporting, other recreational gun activities, and or the typical self-defense, and that in cases of shootings, an attacker having a smaller clip gives potential targets a better chance of escaping and or subduing the attacker.

By the way, the term is MAGAZINE.

Clips load magazines. The AR-15 isn't loaded by clips.
