So if a Christian is to vote at all, it’s always going to be for a perceived “lesser of evils”. Measured against God’s standards, any candidate is vile, corrupt, and immoral. In 2016 for example, a Christian had to choose between two pretty “evil” choices for the two parties that “matter”.

To be clear, I’m not advocating support for Trump’s immorality. I’m throwing out food for thought that seems to be missing so far in this thread.

Another interesting thing to think about is the statement where God calls King David a “man after my own heart”. The David who committed adultery and had the husband of the woman killed.

What you don't understand about this verse is that it is not an accusation. It is not saying we find a flaw in our brother while ignoring a bigger flaw in ourselves. While that could be true, it is not what the verse means. The verse is referring to an actual, factual condition of what it is to be human. The "beam" is your entire, most fundamental, foundational notion of you.

If you don't grasp the gnosis in that, I won't be explaining it to anyone who lacks ears to hear.

 

Of course Christians can and should be politically active. But can you really form the mental image of Trump being the standard bearer for the evangelical Christian right?

I grew up with conservatives, and let me tell you this: they are nothing like this unlettered rabble fawning after Trump. They are upright people with a valid and righteous view of what government should be. That I disagree with their view does not make them my enemy. They gag at the very idea that Trump is a member of, let alone the leader of their party.

I was throwing a cast net the other day, a big gator made a bee line for me. I had two invasive fish in my net. I threw them on the bank (illegal to release) and got about 20 ft back, this dinosaur of a gator emerges from the water and focuses on my net about 7 ft from the fish, the fish flopped and he finally got them. I was not about to let him get my net. I went to get it, I was about 10 ft from this 8 ft gator at that point. I'd sooner trust the gator. Yes, there are thousands of gators there.

I grew up in a conservative Christian family. To me there is little difference between what the Republican Party has become and the the wackiness of the Christian community that was all around as I was growing up.

The same alternate views of reality were in full force for as long as I can remember. So much so, that as a child I kept a journal, just to make sure that I was not the crazy one remembering things that never happened. Now, knowing how the mechanism works, I can see why it was so easy to dupe my brothers into believing and doing stupid things, for my, and my friends’, amusement.
