Think of this: open sourcing of different kinds of activities has shown that with many fingers in the pot, the speed of the advances, improvements, innovations, and the increase in quality far outstrips anything that privately owned businesses have done. And "open source" is very much like socialism in which people work cooperatively. Look at what Mondragon has done and what it is today.

If the company is not owned by the people or the workers then it isn't socialism.

Capitalism for the ultra-wealthy and socialism for everyone else isn't really a blend that's an oligarchy that is socialist.

Country of 8 million people /=/ country of 320 million people - look at regions of comparable size, population density etc. You can't cherry pick - "more" socialism can exploit external markets as described (IKEA!) but it's not sustainable over large regions. Take broader Europe - you should be aware of the issue with the EU - and then get back to me

Canada lives off of US exports, do I need to provide links or is this not common knowledge? It also has a population of ~30 million people - does that match as a 'comparable' region?

edit: Point being, Plebe, yes, semi-socialist tiny nations can exploit exports (oil, IKEA! etc.) to do well, they can't do well on their own when insulated (unlike the US)
