It seems to come down to work ethics. If they don't have it then they won't do good.

The fact of the matter is I can't wait to get out of here because the subway across the street sells better food at a fraction of what you idiots charge! Just bring me my check, and don't expect a bloody tip! I don't tip mcdonald's staff, so I fail to see why I should tip an incompetent oaf like you!

Well, maybe not like that, but it's what I'm thinking, which is why my wife and I rarely go out to eat at restaurants. For some reason, she prefers somebody who doesn't hate going to restaurants. I can take the "would you like fries with that?" upsell from the mcdonalds broad at the drive thru, but I know she's not expecting to be tipped based on how much my order is. She's just doing her job, and god love her for it.
