The conservative gunnuts (a tautology) have a long history of arming criminals. Bush of course started "Wide Receiver", the crazy ATF plan that ran guns to Mexican Drug Lords, and Congress recently passed a law making it harder for law inforcement to trace multiple sales to gun runners in Texas and the other border states, knowing these guns go right into the hands of murderers and narcoterrorists. Oh conservatives, their hatred of law enforcement and the rule of law is legendary.
With rights come responsibilities. Its not the government taking the right away, its a person being irresponsible that loses their rights.
Yes, exacty the same way if one is irresponsible, becomes a convicted felon, and loses their right to vote or own a gun.
Liberals say no. We must punish people for the rest of their life. That's why i say gun rights should be automatically restored after a certain number of years with no further violations.
Now that's a ridiculous bald-faced lie. They did not LOSE their rights (how would you do that?) In fact the govt did indeed take their constitutional rights away.
Fine - suppose a law was passed that anyone with a DUI conviction loses their gun rights. I bet a million $ you "tough-on-crime" types would scream about that even though drunk driving is a violent drug crime and certainly far worse than the mere cocaine possession routinely charged as a felony.
I'd rather stick to the Constitution and allow all citizens to own guns if they desire it, you can stick to the nanny state and activist judges limiting your rights.
Well, that's an opinion that I don't agree with but won't get into because it is outside the scope of this thread.
that's ok with me but i don't think there's much support for that right now. That's why i suggest restoring gun rights after a felon has gone a certain number of years without a violation. We also need to educate the public about how so many minor crimes are now classed as felonies.
I suspect most people think that's how it is right now. That only felons who kill, rob, or rape lose their gun rights. Nope- any felony will do and that includes a lot non-violent victimless drug possession crimes.
Some do I'm sure... Like I said, I would support the felon gun rights laws to be revamped where non-violent felons could have their gun rights restored after a certain number of years w/out a law violation...
