It's amazing that people permanently lose their constitutional right to guns for unrelated non-violent "crimes" like tax evasion while they do NOT automatically and permanently lose the right to drive a car for super-violent driving crimes like DUI or even vehicular homicide.!!!!

The murder would have been prevented if we had mandatory life sentences for drug possession. You could call for all kinds of ridiculous things here. We are a large nation. Using a single murder to push for nationwide gun control is insanity.
In Colorado, eavesdropping was a felony. Not recording just overhearing a conversation when you were not visible to the participants. That law got changed but it was replaced with many just as stupid. In Colorado, it was a felony to remove mortgaged property from the state, such as a car on which your making payments, without written approval of the lender. Vacations are not an exception. Not reporting all of your income is a fderal offense. Win a $20 lottery prize, win a microwave in a raffle at church, get a job digging a drainage ditch on the weekend and get paid in cash. Felonies. Writing a bad check, intentionally or not, is a felony in some states if it's over a certain amount or if you have checks that collectively are over a certain amount. How many here do not believe anyone should be allowed to own a gun unless they work for the government?
I think violent felons and clinically unstable people shouldn't be allowed guns. Nonviolent felons shouldn't be banned from having guns though. This seems like a rather odd trend mentioned in the OP, however, since many states don't even allow felons to vote. I wonder if any of the states that don't allow felons to vote are also ones that do allow them to have guns. That would be rather stupid of them.
Oh brother. The point is that his case was reviewed and he was given his 2nd Amendment rights back. Clearly the story was another anti-2nd Amendment scare piece so who knows what the mental health professionals said. The fact is that he was put in jail for dealing marijuana. Your position is that any felon should have their 2nd Amendment rights taken away. That's wrong.
1) As soon as they started losing track of the guns the program was ended. 2) None of those guns were used to kill an American law enforcement agent. Under Bush the program was halted as soon as they lost control. Under Obama they just kept it going even after they lost control and an American law enforcement agent died. I can only wonder why? Was it plain abject stupidity or was someone getting kickbacks from a Cartel? That's why there is this investigation.
So after they lost their guns they say they stopped the program? Not only did they lose the guns but then they lied about the program ending. Yup, that sounds like a Dumya program.
What about a felon who has turned his life completely? Someone who made a mistake, served his sentence, and has gone on to live a productive life since? From Wikipedia -- "Allen" refers to Tim Allen - comedian, television and movie star. I don't see a problem with Tim Allen owning a firearm - do you?
There's a phrase that goes, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime..." or some such... If he's a convicted felon, and, as such, is not allowed to carry a firearm, then his being a comedian and starring in Home Improvement doesn't change that...
I see a problem with Tim Allen continuing to be allowed to breathe. So, that example may not help you.
