It's a symptom of the "control freaks are us" mentality permeating society these days. Statism is an extension of the "Aunt Bea and Clara " effect. The guy on the edge of town with the ramshackle shack that the busybodies want torn down, then they find out he has no place else to go as the bulldozers await.
This woman wanted to do something good for some kids. The "ever present state" should try to help, not hinder. It's the reason they started this thing. To kick the oppressive boot of government off the necks of the people.
If you don't get that, please move out on this country to one more suited to you..

Yes but people such as yourself are totally unreasonable an I would suggest sub-human, if we look at the conditioning of humans should be that of freedom from an oppressive government. The law is stupid or stupid people are in control of them and make problems where none truly exist. My reference to townfolk is that this guy after being aired on TV is gonna be recieving some rather less then polite mail. Even though if he is as stupid as he looked on tv he'll think that doing his job cause the issue not the way him and his/her buddies are enforcing them. How the problem is likely to mend itself is that others in the local government that want to help or don't want badpress will make sure that the proper paperwork is done next year that could of been done this year with little problems, oh that is right dumbasses such as this guy rather not do that!

What I object to is all this "statist" and "federal government" stuff. Anyone who has worked in business and tried to purchase some land and build a building knows the biggest pain in the rear wild card factor is local ordinances and deed restrictions. The broad strokes federal stuff you know and it is fairly uniform everywhere you go. Most of the local laws are created by local busy body citizens. Yes some of them are wealthy and have a power and money motive but some of them are just regular joe's that get a bee in their bonnet about something and go on a crusade. You get a couple of those people every year and after awhile you have a byzantine mess of local ordinances pushed through by one emotional citizen after another. Have you ever been to a city counsel meeting? I haven't. Do you know who your county commissioner is? I don't. I don't know what laws and regulations some bored house wife got pushed through last year and frankly I will never know until I decide to build something or fly a kite somewhere and the police or a lawyer tells me I can't do it. If we want to have fewer laws we as citizens need to show some restraint. Everyone has their little suggestions for laws. If they are all passed then we end up with the mess we have now.

Summary execution without a grand jury or trial for enforcing a legal law is Unconstitutional. It's an obscure law but if you look closely it's in the Constitution.

This is exactly where we are now. Why would a reasonable person think it would be illegal to provide free meals to children? It has gotten to the point that my friends and I follow a general rule; if you have to ask if it's illegal, it probably is. Some examples include:

    * Apple tree in the front yard
    * Door leaning against house (considered "construction debris")
    * Building a wall (also considered "construction debris", atleast until it's done, this and the door were during a remodel btw)
    * Being alone on a "3 person" (really 2) inflatable boat without life vests (being on an intertube without a vest is perfectly legal though)

Of course the last one is about generating revenue, which is why revenue officers (sheriffs) actively patrol the river and ticket people. Hell my girl watched as one revenue officer ticketed a man for using a handycap parking spot so is grandson with a broken leg could get out and use the bathroom. The kid was crying as he felt responsible for his grandfather getting hit with a massive ticket. The man asked the revenue officer if he felt good about giving the ticket, to which the officer replied "yes." It's good to enjoy your work I guess, especially when your job is to be a prick for the state. Oh, it's also worth mention that camping within the first 15 miles of Mt. Hood State Park is illegal. That is because there are government run campsites for the first 15 miles and they don't want you camping for free when you could be generating revenue. Apparently you gotta pay for nature, well the first 15 miles of it anyway. I also think it might be illegal to shoot in the woods unless you're in a designated area. Well, rule of thumb right; have to ask probably is! Go freedom land!

There are those who will always trust the "benevolent" motives of state authority...
over their fellow citizen's abilities to advance "the common good" independently of the state.

Such is a fundamental ideological fracture between a collectivist and an individualist....
and the chasm will never be civilly bridged.

Amazing .... "No! You canNOT feed those hungry kids!" It's getting worse and worse.

Wasn't there something not long ago about a church was told they couldn't give out bottled water to people during the heat wave?

About 2 yrs or so ago, it was on the news about a woman who was a stay at home mom, so in order to help out her neighbor friends who did work and their kids had to catch the school bus after their moms went to work, the woman helped out her friends by having their kids go to her home every a.m. and catch the bus w/her school kid. I think this was in Michigan, so the kids were in a warm house to wait for the bus during the winter.......

Her gesture of kindness blew up in her face when someone reported her and the city told her she couldn't do that b/c she wasn't licensed for day care or some stupid ass thing........

I wonder if Michelle Obama is going to speak up in defense of this woman? If her husband felt the need to call that woman, Fluke, who was whining about having to pay for her own birth control and offer his sympathy for her 'unfortunate' situation, you'd think MO would say something about this woman, kids and food.....but of course, that's not going to happen.......

This sure is no longer the country I grew up in and loved where people had the freedom to help others w/o the heartless government stepping in w/threats of penalties .........

Some people take some of my posts too literally and if there is legitimate confusion I explain myself... and then those people just ignore me and continue ranting. The OP has not given any indication that his extremist statements should be taken any other way. You should read some of the threads around here. It's pretty hard to tell when or if some people are joking. I've even asked some of them and they've said point blank they are not.

And just for the record I have NEVER said someone I disagree with for political reasons should be tortured or killed. Don't mischaracterize my posts.

So instead of discussing the topic you nitpick and take something non literal to be literal therefor deflecting the entire thread. You complain about racists daily but here is a thread where everyone seems to be upset that this women cant feed kids. You cant spin this into racism so you spin it into something else.
Disgusting man. Heaven (*)(*)(*)(*)ing forbid a charity wants to feed kids. The nerve!

I think it's worse than 'ridiculous' = it's downrite heartless. There's such a cold indifference towards the needs of those who can't help themselves - in this case, children.

You brought up a good point, btw......

You know, something that perhaps has been overlooked here... I would bet money, someone in the neighborhood complained to the township about the program (for whatever reason).

The township didn't just decide to get involved. It was brought to their attention by someone.

Not that it negates their right to see that the zoning is complied with, but perhaps a lot of the emotional display here, is misdirected.

By that logic if a person comes across a someone injured and trapped in a burning vehicle after a crash they have to leave them in there because they don't have the the necessary government documents as an emergency medical technician..and they can't try to put out the fire because they aren't a certified firefighter.
