We are a country that is governed by RULE OF LAW, and fortunately, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 made ALL citizens of the United States completely EQUAL BEFORE THE LAW.

Nothing else matters -- except that we do have 'reverse discrimination' (i.e., "Affirmative Action") provisions that are still considered legal in this country. And, there is also the fact that an appreciable number of very lucrative Federal Government contracts are restricted so that only minority-or-woman-owned contractors are even allowed to submit bids to government contracting offices for the business....

So you will not complain about the race or gender of any nominee?

    Good for you.

I'll complain if that nominee was picked based upon race and/or gender.

    Because that's racism.

Favoring one group is always to the detriment of another group.

That’s completely absurd. What you’re advocating for is discrimination to fix past discrimination.

Fair enough, but I still think the balance of advantage favors letting this one go.

I would not complain about any nominee on the basis of race or gender, no. Ideally, it would be great if the next Justice on the Supreme Court would be a legal mind that is ROOTED IN THE SOLID BEDROCK of the Constitution of the United States and its 27 Amendments. Will that actually happen, though? I doubt it like hell....

Testimony of someone else to back the accuser is evidence of the allegation. Yes her allegation was unbelievable on it's face especially after her claimed witnesses said they didn't know what she was talking about. In the end she had no evidence to back her allegations, no proof.

And on 1965 we said no to all those things so why do the Dems insistnon making the color of ones skin a defining factor NOW?

And BTW whites were lynched too.

What if there wasn't a Jewish justice would it be OK for a President to say they were going to only consider Jews for an appointment?

Are you suggesting there are no white men who have the qualities to be on the SCOTUS?

I've researched a couple of the black women on the "short list" the media was showing last night. They seem very qualified, having been judges for a number of years.

    Here is the likeliest nominee:

    https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/01/biden-supreme-court-list-breyer-jackson.html

She was Breyer's clerk for a time, so he would have recommended her. In fact (quickly dons tin foil hat), it's quite likely that Breyer made her nomination a condition of his agreeing to retire this year.

    ROFLMAO!

    :roflol: :roflol: :roflol:

Since there are so many different versions of THE truth making the rounds of both social and "professional" media, and people tend to believe with their emotions instead of the logical parts of their brains, my question remains unanswered.

I never said it was a requirement, I said it was my opinion that SCOTUS nominees have judicial experience.

If you think I'm "okay with that" -- choosing someone simply because of a specific gender and/or culture, then you didn't read my first couple of comments here. Lose the snark please.

Comedian? Where did you get that notion?

I'm just saying that having a pleasant personality makes one easier to like, even if we disagree with them. You know, like non-snarky forum participants as opposed to those whose comments seem mostly combative.

Hmmm.... I knew about her clerking for Breyer, but that's an interesting theory.. I don't know if I'd go "quite likely", but it wouldn't be mind blowing if he put his 2 cents in... And I don't think I have a problem with that, assuming the candidate is qualified, as she it...

    Something to consider...

So you're asking "whose truth" this is, right?

Well, here is Biden in his own words:

They seem in contradiction to your current position on picking a Supreme Court Judge based on race and sex.
