Subway's Jared Fogle sentenced to 15 years in prison for child sex abuse

It's nice to see that ol' Jared received a hefty sentence for his crimes despite speculation that he'd get off light due to his millions. Now he'll have his choice of a 6-inch or foot-long in the state pen.

Disgraced former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison Thursday after pleading guilty to charges of child pornography and crossing state lines to pay for sex with minors.

The 15-year, 8-month sentence from Federal Judge Tanya Walton Pratt was harsher than the 12-1/2 years requested by Federal prosecutors. He faced a maximum possible sentence of 50 years.

Fogle, 38, who had been free on his own recognizance since he was originally arraigned, was sent to jail immediately after the sentencing. He'll be eligible for parole in 2029.

Fogle's attorneys argued that the charges were somewhat mitigated by the fact that he had only had sex with teenage girls who were 16 and 17 years old, not young children. They argued that longer sentences should be used for criminals who have sex with much younger children, and asked for a five-year sentence instead.

Thursday's hearing in Indianapolis included testimony from two defense witnesses, a forensic psychiatrist and a psychologist, who testified about their examinations of Fogle.
Fogle has also agreed to pay a total of $1.4 million in restitution to 14 different victims. On Thursday, the judge also imposed a fine of $175,000..

Fogle worked for Subway for 16 years. The story of how he lost 245 pounds by eating Subway twice a day was a key part of its marketing campaigns. Subway quietly became a fast food giant, with more locations than any other retailer.

The company fired Fogle once the charges surfaced earlier this year.

 

Shoulda pulled a Roman Polanski and fled the country.

 

Still can't understand why someone with millions of dollars who could easily find an attractive trophy wife if he just wanted sex would bother preying on little kids.

 

Because when they have power, they want to get what they want. And these guys wanted little kids to have sex with.

 

I bet he loses even more weight now.

 

Maybe Jarod will lose more weight in prison by choking on some "foot longs" the inmates provide him.

A longer sentence would have been nice, but 15 years will do.

 

Because he is a sick individual who needs to be permanently removed from society. Likely his tenure in prison will at least change his "Perspective" on sexual predation.

Jared Fogel got exactly what he deserved.... and I applaud the judge for giving him the max, vs the minimum, for his crimes. But isn't it ironic... that Jared gets 15+years for sex with a 16 yo girl

Funny how the gay movement has selective outrage when it comes to sex crimes against children depending on sexual orientation

 

This is absurd. he is not a Paedophile. Paedophiles are attracted to prepubescents. he is attracted to older teenagers For fack sake as are just about all heterosexual men. What he did would be completely legal in almost ever European country#

We in Europe are well aware that 16 year olds are capable of giving consent and understanding the implicaations of sex, but then thats probably why we have vastly less teen pregnancy than the USA

I had sex with my then girlfriend when we were both 15. In the USA I would have been listed as a sexual offender.

Depends on the state. In most states, if you are both underaged it's not a crime.

 

And he had possession of child porn.

 

Ok if that is the case then he has attraction to children but did he actually have sex with anyone under 16? No! Being attracted to 8 year olds is not a crime. having sexual relations is and should be treated severely. Having sex with a 16 year old should definitely not be a crime

Unless you want sex restricted to the over 28s then the last point is pretty stupid. You allow 16 year olds to have a job ffs so you are quite happy to financially exploit them. I see no evidence whatsoever of any harm being done to teenagers who have sex with adults so long as they are aware of teh risks and need for protection, however sex education is woefully inadequate,especially in Bible belt states

Wrong. Here the guy has to be 18+ which makes him of legal age if he has sex w/his g/f who's under 18 to be labeled a sex offender, which I think is WRONG when it's consensual sex........
