He was. Read the OP's article. He was charged with child porn and going across state lines to pay for sex with minors. He wasn't charged with statutory rape.

while I understand the concern you are expressing, I think what he could mean is....

if you are accussed of a serious crime, one that could have you locked up for a VERY LONG TIME, or one that capital punishment is an option.... and you have the means to get out of town before you are arrested, or dip out when you get bail.... I can't say I wouldn't look into that option, even if I was 100% innocent.

Jarod had millions.... he knew they were knocking on the door when they were investigating his buddy.... why doesn't he just take his millions and leave? Sure, it sucks that he pulls a polansky.... but polansky also hasn't had to sit in prison for 30 years, either.

Find a tropical island in some 3rd world country... move there with his millions, and retire into silence while living like a king.

Now, instead of doing that, he's spending the next 16 years in Prison, he will be broke when he comes out, and he will forever have that scarlet letter.


So I don't think it's excusing his behavior... I think it's simply understanding what a person's realistic options are....

 

15 years is a long time at 38.... May as well be life....

Of course what he did was gross, but if a female did the same thing she would get probation and sympathy...

We would be hearing how the boys would be championing the fact that tapped an older woman -- hence they're not victims...

This is a messed up dude but nothing even close to 16-year old prostitutes...

Having sex with a 16 year old girl is perfectly legal in many parts of the US, too. I guess it wasn't legal in the states Jared were in.

 

So I take it you boycotted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Jimmy Page, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bill Wyman were inducted. Hell, they even made a movie about Jerry Lee Lewis (Great Balls of Fire).

 

If it matters a stray 16-year old prostitute may as well be considered a de facto emancipated individual....

 

Ummm.... soldier, celebrity status or not, tons of $ or not has nothing to do w/this depraved mental disorder - they are what they are and there's no cure for it. Pedophiles are men who's sexually attracted to children under the age of 10. There's a different name for those men who are sexually attracted to girls in early teens, can't think of name right now.... might look it up later. Not even chemical castration is 100% effective on these guys who are sexually attracted to children & underage teens.

Yrs ago I watched a program about pedophilia and some were interviewed. One said that he found a child's smooth hairless skin sexually stimulating. Real stomach churning for us, but that smooth hairless skin is very exciting for the pervert.......those people are sick, no cure and should be locked up forever.

that is the way it is in my state, before dems took over a few years back and raised it in my state it was 14, meaning a 80 year old could have sex with a 14 year old, you have to wonder about the people that passed a law like that

I'm glad he got burned on the child pornography. However, let's be fair. The average age of a fashion model is about the age of the girls he was accused of sleeping with. This demographic is highly sought after and valued. It is a standard of youth and beauty sold to American's that demand it. Let's not kid ourselves (no pun intended). People put their money where their mouth is and it shows with how prolifically we advertise and entice by using underage models.

Read the backstory, there is a lot of evidence that he and at least 1 cohort were involved in abuse and pornographic material of children as young as grade school age, this was only one of the incidents they charged him on apparently even though there was much more to work with.

 

what does race have to do with it?

now if he was a sports hero sure some would change their views.... but that should not happen, justice should be blind

There was a lot more to the story, such as a cohort from his charity having also been arrested for putting hidden cameras in bathrooms where children likely as young as grade school age were viewed, and him and said cohort admitting via text to exchanging explicit material.

Likely they only charged him on the prostitution charge because he agreed to plead guilty.

 

I don't keep up with the RR HOF at all, so it isn't anything I could comment on.

I support what happened to Fogle.... Subway did exactly right when they found out what he did....

Homo sex with a 16 yo boy.... "let's make his bday a national holiday"

Won't keep repeating myself, but if you read the backstory regarding him and his buddy from the "Jared Foundation" (Russell Taylor) there's quite a bit of evidence of a lot more depraved activity; this is simply one of the charges they decided they thought they would stick him him with, when there was likely more they would've had to work with if he didn't agree to plead guilty.

example, two 16 year old love each other and have consensual sex... perfectly legal

same couple share naked photo's of themselves via text messaging... now they are both sex offenders

sometimes the law gets it wrong, in this case though they did not imo

I believe he was only charged with 2 counts and pleaded to 2 counts....

Me I'm not fond of the slight double standard there - personally I think it's psychologically unhealthy for a young boy to sleep with older women; an adult who has plenty of mating options but specifically pursues people who are much younger than them probably has an unhealthy desire for control; and a young boy banging older women might develop mommy issues due to it being a distortion of innate gender roles.

I think that due to the huge numbers of boys being raised without fathers today, a lot of them have secret Oedipal complexes, hence the popularity today of fetishes involving teachers and older female authority figures, dominatrix fantasies, etc
