I was initially skeptical about whether the West should become involved in Iraq, but given the recent beheading of an American journalist, the genocide against the Yahzidis and virtually every other non-Sunni group, and the beliefss that have literally come out of these people's mouths, I have come to the conclusion that there is no other option. Humanity will not be safe unless every single member of the IS dies.

Every bleeding-heart peace-loving leftist or non-interventionist needs to shut up and face reality. The existence of this group will cause the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people - millions if they were to get their way with the Kurds or Jews. They must be stopped. NOW. Before they do any more damage.

People who want to say "it's not our business" would be happy letting them conquer the entire planet so long as they don't attack America. But they are going to attack America, if they get the chance. So if you have any empathy whatsoever for the rest of humanity, don't keep advocating staying out of it.

In case you still need convincing, here's the threat this poses worldwide: the IS is causing people in Western countries to defect ideologically, if not physically (only a few actually make it there), to the IS.

And here's what they believe, straight from their (and their brainwashed kids') mouths:

If you do not fear for yourself then at least fear for those they can actually get their hands on. Or are you just going to keep sitting there with your laté insisting that we have the moral high ground if we don't kill them?

History was not kind to Chamberlain, and it will not be kind to you no matter how right you think you are.

In my opinion, we must do the least necessary to ensure the destruction of ISIS. For now, I think we should just continue our air strikes and start arming the Kurds.

Russia, China and the U.S. really need to put aside their differences and rid the world of these cockroaches before we are all overrun.

I agree that we need to be reserved at this point. We have people in there, and if media reports can be trusted at all, they're getting something done.
Other powers in the area have military and black ops forces. IS is more of a threat to them than they are to us. Much more. Lebanon. Israel. Iran. Turkey.
Not to defend Iran and their ways of justice, but at least their beheadings aren't done with little knives, over the course of minutes. Their method is pretty straight forward. Allow them to demonstrate...

How stupid!

Trillions in debt, the Neocons says our oldsters and children should lose their health and food and care, our kids should lose their school, but we should send ANOTHER TRILLION plus on Iraq????

100% BS from the NeoCONS. Go yourself! Leave our troops alone, keep our money for AMERICANS, and go to Iraq YOURSELF if you think it is so important!

Don't let the door hit yourself on the butt as you leave!

So you approve of beheading our citizens? I went myself, how about we send you this time? Oh sorry, I forgot you approve of ISIS actions.

At least Obama is sending in the Navy aviators and special forces. OJT has its rewards. Too bad, maybe after 8 years of OJT he'd be ready to be President.

These animals are like children and minding them any attention is fuel for their fire. It is best to ignore them. They will tire out soon enough.

Obama is sending troops back to Iraq to fight.

So sooner or later you are going to be forced to agree with the conservatives who say we have to destroy Isis whether you like it or not.

Do people forget previous beheadings so easily?
We've been through this before. Do away with IS, and something else takes it's place.

This cannot be defeated with existing means, and trying to blame Islam as a whole only strengthens their cause, and makes us look less "free".
I don't have the answer, but I can see that neither does the current administration.

While I have no sympathy whatsoever for ISIS, comparing them to Germany (and Obama to Chamberlain I guess) is way out left field.

Chamberlain played softball with a world power, predicting that they had no tyrannical ambitions. We know ISIS is tyrannical and would conquer the world if they could, they're just so insignificantly weak.

A more apt analogy would be Woodrow "He Kept Us Out of War" Wilson. Obama was elected partly to stay out of the Middle East, just as Wilson was partly elected in 1916 to stay out of Europe.

I think these Muslims pose a direct threat to the US.

Ignoring them is not the answer.

Ignoring them is not the answer, but I don't believe the current strategy is the answer either.
I don't really believe they pose a "direct threat" to the US though. At least nowhere near as much as our common backyard criminals here in the US.

An Al Arabiya article reports that ISIS may be "Opportunistic and Flexible":

According to David Ignatius of the Washington Post, U.S. intelligence officials describe ISIS as “patient, well-organized, opportunistic and flexible.” They also don’t see ISIS collapsing on its own.

Sounds like the Viet Cong following Mao's strategy- "When the enemy advances we retreat; when the enemy leaves, we return."

It's being billed as ISIS against everyone else- every king and dictator in the region, their armies and attack helicopters, the US and its warplanes, united against them. Anyone want to lay odds on the outcome?

If anyone's offering 10 to 1 ...

Fine with me.

No mercy necessary. Kill them like rats though, no need to burn down the whole house.

I agree that ISIS has to be exterminated. The last time I checked, many countries closer to the scene of their crimes have some pretty big armed forces.

Egypt - 438,000
Iran - 523,000
Turkey - 664,000
Saudi Arabia - 233,000

Sure, these are not natural allies, often enemies, but one could argue the same about U.S.A. and the former U.S.S.R. in World War II.

This is their region and this is their fight. ISIS poses a big threat to all of them too.

Neither choice is great. On one hand we open a can of whoop arse on the Islamic Caliphate they'll squeal holy war to unite Muslims from everywhere. On the other hand leave them be and they'll get stronger, conquer more until at some point they'll turn attention directly to Europe and US. Either way we'll have to do what needs to be done.

Is this about the problem of ISIS or another attack on bleeding heart liberals??

Was there EVER a moment when anyone doubted that ISIS had to be crushed? The question was from the first how to deal with them without initiating a wider war in the ME.

And, the people who are actually doing something instead of running their mouths about "liberals" and Obama..are making pretty good progress.

The Kurds and Iraqis have retaken the Mosul Dam Complex.. the Lebanese have killed the second in command of ISIS.. Many Yazidis have been airlifted out... and the US continues air support.

Meanwhile, everyone is trying to identify and find the monster who beheaded Foley.

Keep running your game on "bleeding heart liberals", but stay out of the way and let others do the job that needs to be done.

- - - Updated - - -

Only an idiot would think there will be another Caliphate..

The problem seems to be that Americans don't know what a Caliphate actually is or how one is formed..

This is exactly what we were told about Vietnam. If we didn't win that war the commies would soon be invading California, yada, yada, yada.

In Vietnam we didn't have videos showing them brainwashing their kids into wanting global domination.

They won't conquer the world but that doesn't mean they won't get a lot of people killed trying.
