most know the economy is not Dems fault

the economy is because of Covid, Droughts, Supply issues from overseas, the bird flu, massive money dumped into the economy under Trump to artificially keep stock prices higher

    @Xyce

maybe inflation is a big issue, but the republican culture warriors have shown they do not have an answer for that.

If States want early voting, they will have early voting.

3 of the 8 seats the GOP have picked up so far are in CA and it looks like they will take at least two more of the undecided seats. Now statewide, the GOP gets whipped hard, but, in these areas where they have accepted early voting and drop boxes and so forth, they work it. They have drop boxes in the churches and the gun stores and they work the hell out of the early vote. The CA GOP didn't lose a single House seat.

It was funny a couple of years ago, the State actually tried to claim that while drop boxes were fine in Union halls, that they really shouldn't be gun stores and churches. The CA GOP sent the State a copy of the law showing that they were absolutely in their rights to post the drop boxes and that they should either shut their traps or find a judge.

We have to be careful about refusing to sensible adapt to conditions we cannot change. I think we need to work the crap out of early voting like the Dems do.

    And another thing:

Conservative Candidates Take Note – DeSantis Dominated In Florida For These Reasons
    [IMG]
'Why did DeSantis crush leftists in his state while many other Republicans barely squeezed a win or lost by slim margins? What did he do that they did not do?'

'One Republican that fully dominated during his campaign was Ron DeSantis. There is no denying that there was a red wave in Florida, which was considered a swing state only a few years ago. Now, Democrats see the state as a lost cause for the 2024 presidential race with zero chance of retrieval. DeSantis carried nearly 60% of the vote, with Charlie Crist left with 40%. DeSantis' success also helped the majority of other GOP candidates in Florida gain a voter majority, with Republicans winning 20 congressional seats.'

He doesn't apologize for conserving American Constitutional Liberal Democracy:
    • 'Hard Stand Against Woke Politics
    • Hard Stand On Illegal Immigration
    • Hard Stand Against Covid Mandates And Vaccine Passports
    • Passing Bills For Election Integrity'
    Desantis brings it.

Do you have a link that verifies that "reopen the fossil fuel industry" is part of the Republican platform? And how exactly will that impact inflation?

You were fine, up to that point, but then you began to veer into conspiracy theory. Yes, Repubs, typically, should have been expected to pick up more seats; however, there were many atypical things, about our current circumstances. One, for instance, was the large number of Republican candidates (thanks to Donald Trump) who were election deniers. Obviously, something like this does not raise the needle, of your own perception of things being askew, but it is something very abnormal, for most people to witness. The J6 Committee hearings, which many on the Right deny as anything but Left wing propaganda, were a reminder to voters, of how troublingly unusual, is the way that a good portion of the MAGA crowd acts. Perhaps the icing on the cake, for some, was seeing members of the new Republican Party, respond to the beating w/ a hammer of the 82 year old husband, of the third highest official in our government, the House Speaker, not with compassion, or even basic civility, but with suspicion, or even derision-- as if it were some sick joke! That was one of the things that was "at play:" decent, patriotic Americans, realizing that too many in the Republican Party were acting neither patriotically, nor even with decency. When candidates talk about their Party "never losing another election," it is worrisome. You'll just have to take my word for that.

Another thing-- if you look at exit poll results for single women-- that threw a wrench in the works, for Republicans, was their getting one of the things they have been working for, 30 years now: the overturning of federal abortion right protections. I am going to stop you, before you even start, explaining why you don't see why women should find this to be a big deal. They just DO, is all you need understand. Single women went for the Democrats by like 35 points. And this wasn't due simply to the Supreme Court's ruling, but because of all the laws on the books, that no one had taken very seriously, which automatically went into effect, with that decision. On top of that, many states that had no tighter restrictions on abortion already pre-set, rushed to pass them! To add insults to injury:
    1) after celebrating the Constitutional correctness of the High Court's decision, to leave the decision to the states (and the total rejection, by the people in the States-- including Red ones-- where they were given a chance to vote on greater limitation on abortion)-- we began hearing these same members of Congress talk about federal limitations, on abortion!
    2) And we heard Justice Clarence Thomas talk about potentially limiting other things, like access to contraception.

This is a radical agenda, in most people's eyes, particularly the way so many Republicans were over-eagerly throwing themselves into it, without giving people of the state a chance to weigh in, with their opinions. This all contributed to an impression, to those Independents who weren't drinking your Kool Aid, of a party of extremists, with little regard for the rights of those who disagree with their views, and a glaring lack of respect for the law, and for democracy. Ironically, the Party supposedly representing "Conservative" views-- which are marked by a desire for maintaining the status quo-- was manifesting a complete lack of control, a willingness to turn things upside down, and an unrelatable absence of traditional manners, or human feelings, of sympathy.

Another group that I had heard, only a week ago, had not been showing up in the early voting, but who came through big time, in the end, was young voters, who likewise saw the Republican attempts to push society backwards in time, as disconcerting.

In short, the Republican Party, and many of their bizarre, Trump-endorsed candidates, were too over the line, and uncompromising-- were deviantly "off brand" for the Republican image. This was the double edged sword of both frightening away voters, who would otherwise have been expected to support the opposition Party, as well as driving historically high participation of voters, who would otherwise have sat out this election, but who came to the polls, just to vote against them.

Or any semblance of logic or common sense. Trump isn't even for other rich people, he's for Trump alone

Like I have said numerous times. Out of maybe a hundred million people in the US eligible to become president, it is hard to believe that Trump and Biden was the best we can do.

You can't be serious. Those pipelines don't deliver processed oil to gas stations or other places that are end users. The more crude oil delivered to refineries the more truckers needed to transport the refined oil to their destination.

With Biden's war on fossil fuels producers have less incentive to invest in oil production in the United States.

Maybe because voters are more aware of the bigger picture and know global issues also affect the US.
They understand CAUSE as well as effect.

Voters looked at all of that and then compared it to the Republican platform that has been taken over by extremists, liars, and hate — and then voted accordingly

Y’all have lost gen Z and Y and unless major reforms are made in your party, what happened during this midterm election that universally favors the minority party is just a waste of what will happen in 2024 and beyond when gen Z becomes the largest electorate.

Who could have ever thought y’all stacking the courts with ideologues and then telling women they become a forced state incubator once impregnated would have been such poor move politically?

This is the first election I didn’t vote for a single republican — I know several others that were the same.

How republicans behaved for trumps 4 years will hopefully destroy the entire party. They worked so hard for it and it is well deserved.

From its ashes hopefully we get one or two less extreme parties.
