A sufficient number of Republican senators are poised to break with Trump, and band with the Democrats, to defy the president on policy. And not just any policy, but one that was the centerpiece of his campaign: building a border wall.

On Thursday, the Senate is slated to vote on a resolution—already passed by the House—rejecting the national-emergency declaration that Trump invoked last month to tap billions of federal dollars for wall construction. Republican defections could number anywhere from a handful to the upper teens, White House officials estimate.

Today, it's time to put up or shut up.... Votes have consequences..

All should remember that this is not really a vote for or against the Idiot Wall... it's a vote to attempt to keep your own powers intact.... who wouldn't vote for that??

My favorite part of the day, regardless of the vote total, is thinking about poor Mitchy, having to bring something to the floor he knows will not go the way he wants it to... An extreme rarity in the Dark Ages of McConnellism (Official Definition - Vote on nothing I cannot win)

5 R's are on the record as planning to vote yes, but you know there are more who will as well (the 4 in the article plus Mike Lee UT)

What's the final vote total on the resolution?? I'm going 59-41, meaning 12 R's will support it? Over? Under?

Should get some chuckles in court.
Well yes judge, I know the House and Senate just voted against this, but, but, Obama.
I'll go with 55, just cause I want to play. But your right, it could be a jail break.

Despite his duct tape and prayer rugs everywhere! hysteria, Americans are even more opposed to Trump's crapping on the Constitution, his fake "emergency!", than they are to his "big, beautiful wall!" that he repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for.

    We need border security

This is a vote for or against open borders and the rule of law that illegal aliens are flaunting

White House officials are expecting up to 14 Republicans to vote against him. Trump has reportedly said he hopes that it stays below 60 because that is some arbitrary measurement for his frail ego.

Trump has utterly failed to convince even a plurality of Americans that any of his plans regarding the Southern Border - from building the wall, to shutting down the government, to blaming Democrats for the shutdown for which he explicitly claimed ownership, to declaring a national emergency - is the proper course of action.

We are not a direct democracy

Doing the right thing should not depend on the understanding of clueless libs and indies talking to pollsters

He can still attempt to vindicate himself by keeping his repeated promise to the American people to come clean with his tax returns and show that he has nothing to hide.

It absolutely is the proper course of action.... He promised and he WILL deliver and this terrifies the cr&p out of the Trump hate mob because the flow of undocumented democrats across the border will stop and because it will be yet another "promise made, promise kept", just in time for Trump's 2020 reelection campaign.

If Trump wants to embarrass the GOP controlled Senate, he can go right ahead. That´s a winning strategy for 2020.

Go ahead and do it, and they will be playing with fire. On top of that, Mitch has stated that he doesn't believe there are enough to overrule a veto.

Nah, Trump building the wall while Republicans voting the way they see fit based on the specifics of their states is a winning 2020 strategy.

"Do you think Donald Trump should publicly release his tax returns, or not?"
    3/1-4/19
Think he should: 64% / Don't think he should: 29%

Meanwhile, those who become aroused by lies, will continue to worship their sh¡thole messiah.

Your paranoia is vital to your dogma but pretending that most Americans love being lied to is a bit much.

GOP Senators are a bunch of craven morons. I predict six will vote with Dems. Hopefully, the number is higher.

Exactly, it's unacceptable and it's about to change quite drastically.

He's got the money now. Images of hundreds of miles of the wall built in 2019 together with images of the wall being built during 2020 will speak louder than words during the campaign.

You obviously don't know the residual effect that shutting down the government had on the voting public.

Trump's poll numbers with Suburban women went up.

    Why?

The amount of overdose/drug deaths is a national emergency! Not to mention the disease and health issues.
