*Where's the embarrased smiley for you?*

It is you who is the proven liar.

The cost difference mainly comes from the massive "Variable O&M including fuel".

Imagine that, fuel costs lots of money, wind is free energy.

    WOW, colour me gobsmacked.

You win in wikiworld but fail in the real world. If wind were as cheap as coal the Chinese would be building windmills like mad (and so would America).

They are building coal plants. Lots. Go figure.

America isn't building new coal thanks to the Obama EPA jihad.

Yet you've offered nothing, so you win in nothing-world and I win in Wiki-world. I'll take wiki world.

And BTW - I've previously posted in another thread on the German/EU/China colaberation on German wind tech. Indeed, the Chinese have started to build significant capacity.

    For when coal runs out?

That won't happen in in America for 10 lifetimes.

American Engineers produce the best turbines in the world......and American Democrats produce the best bull(*)(*)(*)(*)............but neither of them can overcome the laws of Physics or the Free Market. And neither can Europe.....

Wind energy works great......as long as you dont mind paying double or triple.

    Do tell........

You've not been keeping up, so I'll help you. Land based wind turbines produce electricity at the same cost as traditional coal powered stations, WITHOUT subsidies.

Again, your lie is in the economic reality. Private industry isn't covering America with unsubsidized windmills. They don't compete.

And if it were true......the US wouldnt have 14,000 abandoned turbines, nor the need to subsidize every and any wind energy project.

The time for wind turbines and solar panels will come......as technology progresses.....rather than the behest of crony liberal bureaucrats.

    That's true.

If windmills could compete with fossil fuels equally Leffe not be demanding government subsidies for them.

    You may want to reconsider

Dutch fall out of love with windmills

(Reuters) - When the Netherlands built its first sea-based wind turbines in 2006, they were seen as symbols of a greener future.

Towering over the waves of the North Sea like an army of giants, blades whipping through the wind, the turbines were the country's best hope to curb carbon emissions and meet growing demand for electricity.

The 36 turbines -- each one the height of a 30-storey building -- produce enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 100,000 households each year.

But five years later the green future looks a long way off. Faced with the need to cut its budget deficit, the Dutch government says offshore wind power is too expensive and that it cannot afford to subsidize the entire cost of 18 cents per kilowatt hour -- some 4.5 billion euros last year.

The government now plans to transfer the financial burden to households and industrial consumers in order to secure the funds for wind power and try to attract private sector investment.

It will start billing consumers and companies in January 2013 and simultaneously launch a system under which investors will be able to apply to participate in renewable energy projects.

But the new billing system will reap only a third of what was previously available to the industry in subsidies -- the government forecasts 1.5 billion euros every year -- while the pricing scale of the investment plan makes it more likely that interested parties will choose less expensive technologies than wind................

And then add this to it

Wind farms are useless, says Duke
The Duke of Edinburgh has made a fierce attack on wind farms, describing them as “absolutely useless”.

In a withering assault on the onshore wind turbine industry, the Duke said the farms were “a disgrace”.

He also criticised the industry’s reliance on subsidies from electricity customers, claimed wind farms would “never work” and accused people who support them of believing in a “fairy tale”.

Libs like Leffe don't care about any evidence that does not support their religion of environmental perfection, meaning a world without fossil fuels.

And what do you do when the wind drops or is nonexistent? And no there are very few if any places where the wind blows in excess of 30 knots so that windmills put out peak power.

I'm all for wind. Heck, I break wind every day.

What we need in America is more oil exploration, more drilling, more refining and also using wind and solar to power things like pumps or one-off applications.

Alternate energy perhaps someday will be cost effective and viable.

Hence my 1st post on this thread... Your engineers (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up where they put them. School boy error really.

I have the idea of having a standby plant to make it has already been shown fail.
    So what is your solution?

Not really.....as the wind still blows right by the rusting carcasses......

It seems the best place to build wind turbines, is a spot where government subsidies and the bilking of taxpayers is eternal and everlasting.

Wind energy is currently as viable as Solyndra or any Democrat NO-ENERGY endeavor for the matter....manufacture for $6, sell for $3.

We should only build windmills that do not require government subsidies.

I think that all of them need to lean on the taxpayer but if some don't then good for you.

If anyone was wondering or wanted better perspective.......

The Largest Wind Farm in the United States is the Roscoe Wind Farm in Texas, with around 600 Wind Turbines.......at a cost of around 1 billion dollars.....

    ..........14,000 abandoned US Wind Turbines.
