Are you folks really still equating the constitutional process of impeachment with a coup? That's just pathetic.

Biden White House waives executive privilege for initial set of Trump-era documents sought by Jan. 6 panel

President Joe Biden will not invoke executive privilege to shield an initial set of records from Donald Trump’s White House that's being sought by congressional investigators probing the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

“After my consultations with the Office of Legal Counsel at the Department of Justice, President Biden has determined than an assertion of executive privilege is not in the best interests of the United States, and therefore is not justified as to any of the Documents,” wrote White House Counsel Dana Remus in a letter to Archivist of the United States David Ferriero in a letter obtained by POLITICO.

4 Days In January: The Story Of Trump’s Ouster Of Atlanta’s Top Federal Prosecutor

It was getting late in the day on Sunday, Jan. 3 in the Oval Office. Trump was arguing with top Justice Department officials over whether to fire the attorney general in a bid to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The conversation was interrupted, however: Trump wanted to make a call.

“Get Bobby Christine on the phone,” Trump thundered to an administrative assistant. The move bewildered Richard Donoghue, the deputy attorney general. “I didn’t understand where he was going with this,” Donoghue recalled in testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Less than two hours after the Sunday meeting concluded, Donoghue would be on the phone with U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, BJay Pak, telling him that he needed to resign immediately, and to do so quietly.

The FBI raided the home of 37-year-old Aaron Whallon-Wolkind, the vice president of the far-right group Proud Boys’ chapter in Philadelphia, last week, according to a new court filing in the criminal case of Philadelphia Proud Boys president Zach Rehl.

Attorney Jonathon Moseley, who represents both Whallon-Wolkind and Rehl, wrote in the court document filed on Saturday that Whallon-Wolkind’s home in Newark, Delaware, was swarmed by federal agents in riot gear early Friday morning.

The feds took Whallon-Wolkind’s “computer and computer devices and phones, including an old broken phone,” Moseley wrote. The Proud Boys leader was handcuffed but not arrested or criminally charged during the raid, according to the filing.

House January 6 select committee subpoenas former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark

The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol is sharpening its focus on former President Trump, sending a subpoena Thursday to a former Justice Department official allegedly near the heart of the former president's efforts to overturn the election results.

The committee said it wanted records and testimony from Jeffrey Clark who attempted to use Department of Justice resources to delay the certification of 2020 election results, according to a report released last week by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"The Select Committee needs to understand all the details about efforts inside the previous administration to delay the certification of the 2020 election and amplify misinformation about the election results," committee Chairman Bennie Thompson said in a statement. "We need to understand Mr. Clark's role in these efforts at the Justice Department and learn who was involved across the administration."

I believe the deadline for Bannon's deposition is today. The committee should file a civil suit against him which would result in him being jailed until he agrees to testify.

Jan. 6 Committee Prepping To Immediately Hold Bannon In Contempt For Likely No-Show

The House Jan. 6 select committee is already preparing to make good on its threat to hold former White House senior adviser Steve Bannon in criminal contempt ahead of his scheduled hearing on Thursday, according to CNN.

The panel is planning to draw up a criminal referral for the Justice Department against Bannon “immediately,” in CNN’s words, if he refuses to show up.

It appears that Bannon does indeed plan to skip the deposition on Thursday after ex-President Donald Trump’s legal team urged him to do so, citing “executive privilege.”

Bannon’s lawyer, Robert Costello, sent the committee a letter on Wednesday reaffirming the ex-White House adviser’s refusal to comply with its subpoena for both testimony and documents relevant to uncovering the extent of Trump’s potential involvement in the Capitol insurrection.

A Capitol Police Officer faces two counts of obstruction for allegedly urging an accused Jan. 6 rioter to delete evidence that he’d entered the Capitol.

In a Facebook message to an unnamed alleged Capitol rioter on Jan. 7, Capitol Police Officer Michael Angelo Riley allegedly referred to video and picture selfies of the rioter inside the Capitol on Jan. 6.

“Hey [Person 1], im a capitol police officer who agrees with your political stance,” Riley allegedly wrote, according to the federal indictment against him. “Take down the part about being in the building they are currently investigating and everyone who was in the building is going to be charged. Just looking out!”

Later, the Capitol Police officer allegedly sent a news article to “Person 1,” as the indictment refers to the rioter, stating that person 1 had been charged for his conduct on Jan. 6.

The Justice Department said Monday that people “lionizing” the Jan. 6 rioters are heightening the risk of future political violence.

“Indeed, the risk of future violence is fueled by a segment of the population that seems intent on lionizing the January 6 rioters and treating them as political prisoners, heroes, or martyrs instead of what they are: criminals,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Roman wrote in a court filing, “many of whom committed extremely serious crimes of violence, and all of whom attacked the democratic values which all of us should share.”

The DOJ needs to push for more serious charges and longer jail terms then.

House Dems Demand Ouster Of Trump Hardliners After Rolling Stone Piece

Several Democratic House members have seized on the new Rolling Stone magazine article on the Capitol insurrection to call for the expulsion of the pro-Trump hardliners in Congress who were allegedly involved in planning the rallies on Jan. 6 that preceded the deadly attack.

“Any member of Congress who helped plot a terrorist attack on our nation’s Capitol must be expelled,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) declared via Twitter on Sunday night.

“Those responsible remain a danger to our democracy, our country, and human life in the vicinity of our Capitol and beyond,” she tweeted.

Fellow New York Democrat Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) slammed the “cabal” of GOP lawmakers identified in the Rolling Stone article who “not only incited but also aided and abetted the insurrection.”

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...of-trump-hardliners-after-rolling-stone-piece

Expulsion should be the least of the penalties.

Biden rejects Trump's latest claim of executive privilege over Jan. 6 documents

WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday rejected another executive privilege request by former President Donald Trump over documents sought by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In a letter obtained by NBC News, White House counsel Dana Remus told the National Archives that President Joe Biden has determined that Trump's effort to keep a new batch of Jan. 6 records out of Congress' hands "is not in the best interests of the United States."

She added, "Accordingly, President Biden does not uphold the former President's assertion of privilege."

Ahead of Jan. 6, Willard hotel in downtown D.C. was a Trump team ‘command center’ for effort to deny Biden the presidency

They called it the “command center,” a set of rooms and suites in the posh Willard hotel a block from the White House where some of President Donald Trump’s most loyal lieutenants were working day and night with one goal in mind: overturning the results of the 2020 election.

The Jan. 6 rally on the Ellipse and the ensuing attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob would draw the world’s attention to the quest to physically block Congress from affirming Joe Biden’s victory. But the activities at the Willard that week add to an emerging picture of a less visible effort, mapped out in memos by a conservative pro-Trump legal scholar and pursued by a team of presidential advisers and lawyers seeking to pull off what they claim was a legal strategy to reinstate Trump for a second term.

They were led by Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani. Former chief White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon was an occasional presence.

These kinds of absolutely stunning stories would be discussed endlessly at the water cooler if not for the fact that illegal/immoral/unethical/ anti-American behavior was and is routine for Trump and his minions.

(CNN)At least five former Trump administration staffers have voluntarily spoken with the House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, CNN has learned.

Those discussions come as lawyers working for the committee have also reached out to a range of other Trump aides to inquire whether they would be interested in speaking with the committee voluntarily, without the threat of a subpoena.
The five former staffers who have had conversations with the committee have done so with either members or their staff. Some believe they have information worth sharing, while others are hoping to avoid being legally compelled to talk to the committee.
"I've got good reason to believe a number of them are horrified and scandalized by what took place on January 6th and they want to do their legal duty and their civic duty by coming forward to explain exactly what happened," Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democratic member of the committee, said on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" Tuesday. "We're going to continue to encourage everybody who has relevant information to come and talk."

    https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/26/poli...term=link&utm_source=twCNNp&utm_medium=social

Speaking to the committee about the coup attempt is the patriotic thing to do and some why of Trump's minions refuse to do so.

    So is Faux.

Fox Set To Go Whole Hog On Whitewashing Jan. 6 As A ‘False Flag’ Operation

Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced last night his upcoming “documentary” on the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection that he claimed “answers a lot of the remaining questions from that day,” and based on the trailer, one of those remaining questions seems to be “why is the government being so mean to the people who tried to overthrow the government for Trump?”

    • The dark trailer of the documentary, titled “Patriot Purge,” portrays the violent insurrectionists as fighting a righteous war against an oppressive government.
    • Violence and patriotism are the themes of the trailer, opening with a military drum riff against images of gunfire, law enforcement agents breaking into buildings, helicopters, and the torture of prisoners in Guantanamo Bay.
    • “The helicopters have left Afghanistan, and they’ve landed here at home,” Carlson declares in the trailer.
    • The trailer ends with an interviewee suggesting that the insurrection was a “false flag” operation.

Tucker is going full on propaganda.

Trump Justice official Jeffrey Clark, who pushed election fraud claims, stonewalls House January 6 committee

(CNN)Former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark on Friday stonewalled the House select committee investigating January 6, responding to a subpoena demanding he appear for an interview with the panel, but not answering questions posed to him, sources familiar with his appearance told CNN.

Instead, Clark provided a letter from his attorney Harry MacDougald that claimed he could not provide testimony until a court declares that his interactions with former President Donald Trump are not protected under attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.
CNN has not obtained a copy of the letter, first reported by Politico, but confirmed its contents through a source with knowledge of the letter.

January 6 committee chair said he has signed about 20 new subpoenas that are going out 'soon'

(CNN)Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chairs the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, told reporters that he has signed about 20 subpoenas and that they are going out "soon," possibly by Friday.

Thompson would not confirm if former Trump lawyer John Eastman, who CNN has reported the committee plans to subpoena, is a part of that group, but said of the next batch of the subpoenas: "Some of the people have been written about. Some of the people haven't been written about."
Asked if there are lawmakers the committee is planning to subpoena, the Mississippi Democrat said: "Not yet."

WASHINGTON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - The U.S. congressional committee probing the deadly Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol issued subpoenas seeking documents and testimony from six more associates of former President Donald Trump, including top aides from his re-election campaign.

They are William Stepien, manager of Republican Trump's 2020 re-election campaign; Jason Miller, senior adviser to the campaign; Angela McCallum, national executive assistant to the campaign; John Eastman, an attorney for Trump; Michael Flynn, who was briefly Trump's national security advisor, and Bernard Kerik, a former New York City police commissioner.
