We have had Russian "bloggers" here...both before and after the election spewing Russian propaganda and doing things like pretending to be liberal who "distrusted" Clinton...

I even called a few of them out prior to the election

No. Russians are welcome on the forums so long as they follow the rules.

Propaganda works best when it tells you what you want to hear (or are open to) regardless of it's veracity . And that's exactly what the Russians did...and they could target likely subjects suing algorithms at a paltry cost of $30 a pop...reaching thousands....for that sum.

Well, there is that too! :D And the last time I checked, the BBC was recognized internationally as one of the best news organizations in the world.

Note the real point in this regard: The is a difference between news, and propaganda. There seems to be confusion in this regard on the right.

What do you mean by 'subjects suing algorithms' ? I understand each of the three words, but they are not connecting together.

I just posted a thread containing CIA/NSA analyst opinion that the DNC was hacked from the inside, so maybe ask those dudes about their credentials? :)

I run a company that erects and services cell towers. "Stingrays" are in the news. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/d-c-court-rules-warrant-is-required-for-stingray-cell-phone-tracking/ Tracking is the least of our concerns, and this is something I'm "contractually" required not to discuss. Tip of the iceberg.

I appreciate reading the Russian perspective (propaganda). Mostly it's full of lies and half-truths. Sometimes (very rarely) it involves valid points and I actually gain something from the interaction.

It hasn’t been determined if these threats were domestic or foreign, but Russia remains the primary suspect.

Renowned security expert John McAfee discounted any Russian involvement in hacking the DNC. Extrapolate that information out to the election, it appears that McAfee has debunked both the DNC and election propaganda by the whining Democrats. It's more than likely that the hacking of the election was committed by inept Democrats. Perhaps those hanging chads have more truth than this attempt by the Left. Why would the Putin and the Russians want the Progressive Marxist Socialist Democrats lose when they are allied ideologically with them?

The fact remains the Russians interfered in our elections, up to and including attack state election systems.

If you believe that, you don't understand how meme are promoted in social media. The Russians do.

Can't speak for those on social media, but I'm not gullible enough to let some facebook poster or some twitter or instagram decide my views. I didn't like either candidate, I feel remorse that I even trusted Trump for a nanosecond and I now understand that regardless of my desires to protect the Presidency, the man occupying the office cannot protect it himself. Which makes any such effort a lost cause.

I truly believe even if there is nothing, Trump's a one-term President.

I think you're missing the point.

Facebook did not have to be involved in any way, and almost certainly was not.

It did not take a large investment on the Russians behalf to have an outsided impact.

The Russians had already set up large troll farms for teh purpose of both spreading its own propoganda and for promoting extremist views that create division, confusion, and mistrust, all of which serve Russia's interest.

Yes, Sputnik and RT are Russian propoganda tools, and right wingers reliably parroted the content of both those sites here and on social media.

But Russian bots also bumped stories in unreliable rigth wing blogs and conspiracly theory sites like Breitbart and InfoWars. The Russians didn't run either site, but their content often served Russia's overall goal.

And pushing these sites and their own content on FB, first to the extreme right and left (the russians did target Bernie supporters), and later just on the far right were specificially intended to benefit Trump.

Neither Facebook, Info Wars, Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, PJ Media or the rest needed to be involved. As long as the toxic spew got spread, the Russian goal was served.

Right wingers on this forum and on social media (at least the right wingers in my FB circle) gleefully promoted this stuff.

Right wingers on this forum routinely bragged about Guccifer 2.0, and were looking forward to more.

The Russians didn't pay them. They carried Moscow's water for free.

    That's what useful idiots do.

Donald Trump's electoral college victory came from a small number of votes, fewer than would fill most college football stadiums on Saturday afternoon.

As I told another poster in this forum, few of us changed our views or our votes based on what we read here. However, nearly all of us have some inpact on the views of people in our personal cohort, family, friends, fellow employees, etc. Often this is unintended.

This community was Russia's real target.

" The "pizzagate" theory, and theories on Seth Rich were debated. I mention those specifically, because those haven't been resolved to some posters satisfaction. "

Ironically, both of these fake stories are ones that the Russian bots specifically promoted.

At lest one American was fired from Sputnik for refusing an order to promote the Seth Rich myth.

The Russian targets are ideologues, people who are looking for validation, not information.

Both of these conspiracy theories strike that chord.

All the Russians wanted, was for the true believes to sow doubt and spread noise by sharing poison like this here or sharing it on other social media.

Since it took less than 80,000 votes to put Trump in office, sowing confusion and division was enough to do the job.

There is no doubt taht the Russians wanted Trump. His divisiveness and incompetence has reduced the influence of the US visibly and sowed fear and anxiety throughout Russia's traditional foreign rivals.

That is what the Russians wanted.
