We are going to end CW-13 with less than +10 million new C19 cases, for the first time since Mid-December 2021.

I suspect we will land between +9.5 and +9.6 million cases for this week, about 2 million less than in CW-12.

So, there is some good news out there.

WHEN AND WHERE DID OMIKRON PEAK DURING QUARTER 1, 2022?
During the screenshotting for all 80 nations in my tracking plus the worldwide figures for EOQ1 2022, I also indicated on the screenshot for each country the exact calendar week where that country had reached its mathematical Omikron-wave peak. Here we are talking about +cases, not +deaths.

I've organized that into this listing:

    CW52: Switzerland

    CW01: USA, Greece

CW02: Italy, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Australia, South Africa, Phillippines, Ireland, Bolivia, Finland, Ecuador, Dominican Republic

CW:03 Worldwide, India, France, Mexico, Israel, Peru, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Croatia, Cuba, Tunisia, Nepal, UAE, Uruguay, Panama, Saudi Arabia,

CW04: Brazil, UK, Poland, Belgium, Portugal, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Iraq, Serbia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Norway, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Paraguay, Kuwait

CW05: Turkey, Iran, Czechia, Romania, Hungary, Georgia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Costa Rica, Palestine

CW06: Russia, Netherlands, Japan, Ukraine, Chile, Slovakia, Jordan, Belarus, Guatemala, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka

    CW07: Indonesia

    CW08: Singapore, Myanmar

    CW09: Malaysia, Hong Kong

CW10: New Zealand, (Finland, Omikron Wave 2??)

    CW11: South Korea, Vietnam, Austria

    CW12: Germany

    CW13: Thailand

You will see that I already have CW13 in the works as well as most of the work for the week that just closed out has also been completed.

Now, the peak daily average does not mean that that week was the only disastrous week for any one given nation. It simply means that that week is the week where mathematically, that country had its highest daily average.

The nations are listed in descending order of total cases, so the nations at the beginning of each listing have more cases than the nations at the end.

On the worldwide aggregate, we statistically hit our peak in CW03, but CW04 was a close second, so it is no surprise that 32 out of 80 nations in my tracking peaked during those two CWs.

Here again the worldwide aggregate, also so that you can see the exact end-date for each CW, which is always a Sunday, of course:

    2022-03-031 WORLDWIDE 000.png

From the screenshot you can see what I mean about CW03 and CW04, respectively.

You will also see from the listing above that as of CW07, 9 of the 11 nations listed are in East or Southeast Asia. The two glaring exceptions are neighboring nations in Europe: Germany and Austria.

Please also notice for CW10 that it appears that Finland had a peak of a second wave already. Here, take a look for yourself:

    2022-03-031 FINLAND 000.png

Whether or not Finland is a harbinger of things to come for the rest of the world, who knows, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Finally, I would like to note that reporting Covid-19 numbers in areas of war is not an easy task. Not only are Ukraine and Russia are having problems collecting C19 data and really keeping it clean, but rather, also the nations that have taken in a huge number of Ukrainian refugees, for they have the additional burden of finding out the vaccination status of their guests and testing them for C19 as well on top of their own population. The fog of war and a pandemic do not mix well. And surely there are both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers out there who are C19 positive but are still fighting, which means that the virus can spread even faster. Food for thought.

I hope this information was helpful and bet very strongly that you will find it in this organized form nowhere else but on this thread.

Covid-19 is not yet over with, not by a longshot.

    THE TOP-80 TABLES

The trend area of the top-80 table shows trends for two consecutive weeks. Green shading = a reduction of some sort over the CW before. Red shading = a surge of come sort over the CW before. No shading = status unchanged.

    Here sorted by +cases / +avg cases:

You can see that in this last week, 2 nations added more than +1,000,000 cases to their count and 3 nations total added more than +100,000 cases per day (in the week before, it was 3 and 4). The top three +case getters were South Korea and Germany, with France being on the ascent while Vietnam is on the descent.

    Here by total cases, descending:

The 80 nations I am tracking accounted for 96.83% of all worldwide cases and 96.09% of all deaths during the week being analysed. So, the 80-nation tracking really is quite an effective statistical tool.

Here the same 80-nation list, sorted by growth rate:

Worldwide, the growth-rate in +cases decreased to +1.92% (it was +2.32% the week before), with Portugal tracking the worldwide growth rate the closest (rank 22). 2 nations had over 10% growth rate (South Korea & New Zealand) but those growth rates are mild in comparison to what we witnessed in January and February of 2022. 16 nations had a growth rate of at or under +0.10%, which means that almost nothing happened casewise in the last week.

    Here, by trend:

We ended CW-12 with 6 nations at a plateau and with those plateaus trending in different ways. 15 nations are still surging forward (the week before it was 18 ) but 59 nations show the +cases receding (last week it was 59). There were 21 green trends (downward), 19 red trends (upward) while 40 remained static.

THE TRACKED NATIONS UNDER THE 1,000,000-MARK, HOW CLOSE TO 1,000,000?
I will be doing this for the CW right after each quarter ends. This table has the values from 2022-04-003 for the nations in my tracking that are under 1,000,000 total cases. After 2022-04-003 there are 88 days left in Q2 and 272 days left until the end of this year. I plugged in the current daily average as well and let good old excel do the math for me.

First, by descending order of total cases:

Note that Finland and New Zealand are currently 65 and 74 in the total case rankings. Also note that I have added Estonia to the pre-tracking, it will soon overtake a number of other nations that have been in the tracking for a good while.

Now, the same table sorted by the number of days until each nation would reach 1,000,000 based on their current daily +case average:

If these numbers hold, then it looks as if we will be adding 3 nations to the millions club by the end of April, another nation by the end of Q2 and another 5 nations by the end of this year. However, this can be very deceptive. For a long, long time, Morocco hung directly under 1,000,000 cases last year (as Nepal is doing right now) and then came Omikron and practically overnight, Morocco was swept over the 1,000,000 mark. So, right now, with a wave abating, the numbers look like this. But I would say that the chances are very high that our world will experience at least one or two more waves before the pandemic is finally history and so it wouldn't surprise me at all were a nation like the Dominican Republic, currently on track to cross over the million-barrier in (**checks notes, checks them again**) 11,719 days (about 32 years, you know!) could actually get it done this year or next.

Remember, these things are nothing more than snapshots in time, but they too can be an effective predictive tool.

As of today, Thursday, 2022-04-022, I have added Estonia to the unofficial tracking. I certainly looks as if Estonia will be surpassing the Dominican Republic in the tracking in the next days and then it will be officially in "the system".

Here the excel table for Estonia, up to last Sunday, 2022-04-003:

2022-04-007 Estonia added to the tracking.png

You can see that Estonia (pop: 1,328,104) advanced +314,896 cases in Q1 of 2022 and stood at 558,706 total C19 cases as of last Sunday. That number is the equivalent of 42.1% of the total population of this small baltic state:

You can see that Estonia now has the (1st) Omikron wave behind it, having gone into the New Year with roughly +885 cases per day, ending last Sunday with +999 cases per day and having peaked with +6,910 cases per day during CW-05 (alongside Lithuania, with Latvia peaking in CW-06). However, if and when another wave comes, Estonia is very likely to spring over the million-mark by years end, although that is not the case right now. The proof of this is below.

I already plugged in some Estonian values into the under 1,000,000 table from the analysis for CW-13 (2022-04-003):

Right now, at its current "speed", Estonia is slated to spring over the million-fence in 439 days but as I wrote above, if and when another wave comes, this is likely to change very quickly.

Finally, just to be clear, the Estonian language is part of of the Uralo-Finnic language family (of which "Eskimo", as in, native languages in Alaska, is also a part) and has many similarities to Finnish and Hungarian. It also primarily uses the latin alphabet, slightly altered with some German and Swedish influences. There is literally almost no linguistic commonality between Estonian and Russian. Estonian is also a very, very different language than Lithuanian.

A slew of Washington insiders have tested C19-positive.

South Korea has surpassed Italy in C19 cases and will overtake Turkey by Sunday.

Also, cases are again markedly on the rise in Japan.

Talked with a buddy of mine in Germany yesterday and he didn't seem to be concerned about the 'virus' situation there, but he did say that some places like nursing homes are now completely closed-off to visitors -- even immediate family members. That was a bit surprising....

[IMG]. "What?! You mean I STILL can't get in and visit Oma...?!"

I want to revisit this posting of yours and add some content and not just limited to the USA.

From the beginning of this thread, I have warned many times over about placing too much confidence in the recovered/active statistic, for a number of reasons.

The first reason is that the category of "recovered" includes people who have survived the virus but now have long Covid.

Second, each land, and in many cases, each state or province has its own way of definining "active" and "recovered". This goes along with my first point. For instance, in all of 2020 and all of 2021, in the German province of North-Rhein Westfalia, if a person tested positive and did not inform the "Gesundheitsamt" (Health Bureau) of their status after three weeks time, then they were automatically moved to "recovered". There was even a limited number of cases where a person died and therefore could not inform that bureau that he or she died and was still placed on the "recovered" list. That was due to an innocent computer glitch. In 2022, with Omikron, Germany is now doing it differently. You don't have to remain in quarantine for 2 full weeks, but rather, you can test yourself out of quarantine by presenting 2 negative test results that show that the virus is no longer active within your body. But still, none of this accounts for long Covid, a phenomenon that is going to follow us for years to come and will have a major impact of the quality of life for a lot of people.

Third, not all nations even record "recovered"/"active" statistics or they no longer publish them. A good example: as I started the tracking, the only country that did not provide these stats was Peru. As of right now, the following countries are not publishing "recovered"/"active" statistics, in descending order or current total C19 cases:

South Korea, Ukraine, Portugal, Peru, Norway, Hong Kong, Tunisia and Ecuador.

Fourth, some nations really don't publish any changes in the numbers. For instance, since I started tracking Finland, it has remained stuck at exactly 46,000 recovered and that figure has not moved one bit in 14 weeks, so that statistic is for that land essentially useless. Same story for Brazil, which often for weeks on end would be stuck with just one number for their recovereds. Here proof of both these examples:

2022-04-009 Finland recovered stats stuck at 46000.png

2022-04-009 Brazil recovered statistics eoy 2021.png

So, the recovered/active statistic is unreliable at best and really does not give us a clear picture, for the four reasons I just listed. And this is a point I have been mentioning sporadically ever since this thread was created more than 2 years ago.

    Food for thought.

As of right now, we ended yesterday, 2022-04-008 with 497,520,290 total cases, making for +5,791,241 cases in the first 5 days of this week, which averages to a daily average of +1,158,248 cases, under the daily average of +1,348,777 from the end of CW-13.

If we extrapolate that out to all 7 days in this week (CW-14), then is looks very much as if we will end the week with just a little over +8.1 million new Covid-19 cases worldwide in comparison to last week's +9.4 million total cases. So yes, Omikron continues to wane, thankfully.

    Flashback in time.

Remember, we are moving toward 498 million Covid-19 cases and will reach them today.

    One year ago today:

    Romania exceeds 1,000,000 total COVID-19 cases, posted 2021-04-010, 13:29 UTC +1, #13360.

Romania was the 24th nation on Earth to jump the million-fence. Right now, the total is 59 such nations, so we have added 25 nations since that day.

    And

    EOD general concise analysis for 2021-04-010, posted 2021-04-011, 09:30 UTC +1, #13364

On that day one year ago, we landed at just under 136 million total Covid-19 cases. That was 362 million cases ago....

It doesn't seem to matter how the stats are counted or kept, the numbers are monstrously lop sided toward recovery. For the average guy on the street to completely change his life over something totally out of his control is a fools errand. Covid is with us forever but it isn't going to end life as we know it. The sky is still blue, the birds still sing and most of us have to get up and go to work.

So, CW-14 has come to an end and tomorrow morning, 2022-04-012, the concise analysis will come out for that CW but already I can tell you that there was a definite ebbing of the Omikron (1st) wave in most all of the world during this last week and more importantly, the overwhelming number of countries in my 80-nation tracking will show this as well. Right now, I count only 6 nations with a measurable rise in +cases over CW-13, but 18 nations have yet to get in their final figures, so this will probably change some.

That being said, there is one massive glaring exception in Europe, one I cannot easily explain at all: Italy. Italy's +cases for CW-14 are at least four-fold of those from CW-13. I don't know if it was a paperwork problem for CW-13 or what, but it is indeed strange.

And there are two continents that are completely on the rise, even if said rise is not (yet) massive:
-in North America: Canada, the USA and Mexico - to varying degrees. In Middle-America, a number of nations are at a plateau.
-in Oceana: Australia and New Zealand. Also, in East Asia, Japan is marching forward again, but South Korea is ebbing.
-in China: CNN just reported that Shanghai alone reported +26,000 new Covid-19 cases, in spite of one of the most brutal complete lockdowns in all of history. And yet, China has not reported this number, neither yesterday nor today. So, as usual, China is lying. Surprise, surprise.

    500,000,000!

We ended the day on Sunday (End of CW-14) with just under 499 MILLION total confirmed C-19 cases and surely by tomorrow, that number will stand over 499.1 million. But this also means that our world is absolutely guaranteed to exceed ONE HALF BILLION total C-19 cases, either at the end of today or the beginning of tomorrow.

Looking into this coming week, a number of nations are expected to cross their next million mark and I suspect that two nations will join the million club.

Since this week , CW-15,will end on Easter Sunday, I expect considerably lighter weekend figures, not all of which will be completed by the Tuesday morning afterward, so, as I wrote in 2020 and in 2021, please don't place too much emphasis on any major shifts that technically, on paper, come out of this coming week, for they are likely to be made up for in CW16. There is nothing nefarious about this; it's simply beaurocracy taking a small break for Eastertide. We all need a break now and then, eh?

Wishing you all a good start into this week.

    THE TOP-80 TABLES

    Here by total cases, descending:

The 80 nations I am tracking accounted for 96.85% of all worldwide cases and 96.10% of all deaths during the week being analysed. So, the 80-nation tracking really is quite an effective statistical tool.

    Here sorted by +cases / +avg cases:

You can see that in this last week, 2 nations added more than +1,000,000 cases to their count and 3 nations total added more than +100,000 cases per day (in the week before, it was exactly the same). The top three +case getters were South Korea and Germany, with France and Italy being on the ascent while Vietnam continues its descent.

Here the same 80-nation list, sorted by growth rate:

Worldwide, the growth-rate in +cases decreased to +1.49% (it was +1.92% the week before), with this value directly between Hong Kong and Slovakia's values (rank 18-19). ZERO nations had over 10% growth rate, for the first time since the Omikron wave began. 18 nations had a growth rate of at or under +0.10%, which means that almost nothing happened casewise in the last week.

    Here, by trend:

We ended CW-14 with 5 nations at a plateau and with those plateaus trending in different ways. 11 nations are still surging forward (the week before it was 16) but 63 nations show the +cases receding (last week it was 59). Also, as far as trends go, you can forget Jordan's figures somewhat because Jordan reported absolutely nothing during CW-13 and made up for it in CW-14, which is why you see so many up arrows for Jordan in CW-14 and so many down arrows for CW-13. Inconsistency leads to a circus parade in statistics.

CW-15 is now coming to an end and it is looking very much as if we will end the week with about +5.6 to +5.7 million new Covid-19 cases. This will be the first week in this year where the daily average was under +1 million per day. I've logged 48 out of my 80 tracked nations already and right now, only 2 are showing an increase in +cases over CW-14. Most importantly, both Germany and South Korea are under +1 million weekly cases this time around. +deaths are also way down, but please remember, with this day being Easter Sunday, the figures are bound to be even lighter than in reality. It would not surprise me at all to see a slight bump upward in CW-16 simply as that backlock in testing paperwork gets sorted out, as was the case in 2020 and in 2021.

For the second week in a row, ZERO nations had over. 23 nations had a growth rate of at or under +0.10%, which means that almost nothing happened casewise in the last week. One week ago, it was 18 such nations. You will see that 3 nations produced no weekly statistics at all: Palestine, Jordan and Paraguay - so we may be seeing a trend in some nations to update their data every two weeks instead of daily.

    Here, by trend:

We ended CW-15 with 6 nations at a plateau and with those plateaus trending in two different ways. 8 nations are still surging forward (the week before it was 11) but 66 nations show the +cases receding (last week it was 63). All of these trends are less important this time around as the data-gathering over Easter Weekend in most all of the world slowed down. Also, some nations are obviously moving toward producing data every two weeks instead of each week, which will obviously skew this stuff in weird ways.

Slovenia is just under 998,000 total C-19 cases and will surely jump over the 1,000,000-fence within this week. When that happens, Slovenia will be the 60th nation on earth to have done this.

We have had some nations with small populations already cross over the 1,000,000 mark (Georgia with under 4,000,000 population and Lithuania with under 3,000,000 population) but with a current population of only 2,079,450, this means that when Slovenia goes over the million-mark, that value will be the the equivalent of almost exactly 50% of that nation's population. That makes it a truly heavy-lift to get there, and yet, Slovenia really has had that many official infections. Wow.

SLOVENIA EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL COVID-19 CASES ON 2022-04-020, 60th NATION TO DO SO

Yesterday, Wednesday, 2022-04-020, Slovenia exceeded the 1,000,000-mark:

The Slovenian values are final. The current total cases value represents 48.1% of the total population of Slovenia.

Because Slovenia did not go over 1,000,000 cases on a Sunday, there is no excel table screenshot.

Here the millions-club table in updated form, showing the three nations that have entered a new major rubrik (Vietnam, Slovenia, Brazil):

With Slovenia's entrance into the million-club, that makes for the 18th nation that has crossed over the million mark in 2022 and the 60th overall. The first 42 nations crossed over that line in 2020-2021. Just for a point of comparison, it took the entire year 2020 to get to the first 18 nations over the million mark and now within just a little more than the first two months of 2022, we have already added 18 such nations.

Finland and New Zealand are up next to cross the million-barrier.

FINLAND EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL COVID-19 CASES ON 2022-04-021, 61st NATION TO DO SO

Today, Thursday, 2022-04-021, Finland exceeded the 1,000,000-mark:

    Here the WorldOMeter countries table:

    2022-04-021 - Worldwide 002 - Finland goes over 1,000,000.png

The Finish values are final. The current total cases value represents 18.0% of the total population of Slovenia.

Because Finland did not go over 1,000,000 cases on a Sunday, there is no excel table screenshot. However, in the last 3 weeks, Finland has been reporting only once per week, so it is possible that today's figures will also be Sunday's figures when all is said and done.

Here the millions-club table in updated form, showing the four nations that have entered a new major rubrik (Brazil, Vietnam, Slovenia and Finland) in April, 2022:

    2022-04-021 - Finland goes over 1,000,000 - millions club.png

With Finland's entrance into the million-club, that makes for the 19th nation that has crossed over the million mark in 2022 and the 61st overall. The first 42 nations crossed over that line in 2020-2021. Just for a point of comparison, it took the entire year 2020 to get to the first 18 nations over the million mark and now within just a little more than the first four months of 2022, we have added 19 such nations.

New Zealand is up next to cross the million-barrier.

On April 5th, I published this table of the nations under 1,000,000 at that time:

You will notice that the table, based on the current daily +case average, showed that Finland and Slovenia would cross over the 1,000,000-mark in 11 days after 2022-04-003, on 2022-04-014. So, it took about one week longer, but indeed, that happened, with Slovenia on 2022-04-020 and Finland on 2022-04-021. This kind of consistency tells me that in most of the world, the Omikron wave is ebbing at similar, sometimes even identical rates. This is yet another good reason for creating these tables now and again, always noting that they are indeed snapshots in time but still can be of statistical value. Exactly that happened yesterday and today.

ON 2022-04-022, THE USA EXCEEDED 1,000,000,00 TOTAL COVID-19 TESTS PERFORMED
    THAT'S ONE BILLION TESTS!
1st NATION IN ALL OF HISTORY TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS

Yesterday, Friday, 2022-04-022, the USA exceeded the 1,000,000,000-mark in total Covid-19 tests performed within that nation:

    2022-04-022 - The USA exceeds 1 BILLION C19 tests performed.png

Yes, you read that number correctly. That's a 1 with 2 commas and a total of 9 digits to the right of it. Slightly over ONE BILLION C-19 tests performed, making the USA the first nation in history to have ever reached such a marker. This current number represents 2.99 (3) times the current US population.

Currently at almost 834,000,000 C19 tests performed, the chances are more than likely that India will join this new dreadnaught rubrik within this year.
