Exactly my point. Trump was driven primarily by his massive ego, not his subservience to special interest groups. He wanted to do things his own way. That's a form of independence. Granted, it's not the kind of thing we traditionally associate with being independent, but it still qualifies.

 

He's certainly become one since assuming power. He's afraid. And he has good reason to be.

 

The Ukrainian government is not fascist and we were already in Syria and had a stated position that Assad must go. Plus, as I recall, Trump only attacked an airfield of theirs after they attacked civilians with chemical weapons.

Not sure what exactly you mean by the US and Russia being "on the brink of war in Syria." You think we and Russia are about to go to war with one another over Syria? You're way, way off if that's what you think.

It was an escalation relative to past actions. Obama had the exact same opportunity to attack the Syrian government he chose not to after James Clapper told him the chemical attack could not be definitively attributed to the Syrian government.

US and Russian forces are operating at cross-purposes in Syria. Everyday, US and Russian officials escalate their war of words with one another. A Russian fighter jet was even shot down by a NATO ally at one point. All that is required for a war to break out is for one error or misunderstanding to result in an engagement. Your casual dismissal of the extreme danger this situation poses is breathtaking.

 

The escalation is more in fake news and prepper ads than between officials. And no, no one error or misunderstanding is about to have us fighting each other. What do you think we are, a couple of ant colonies?

Paying them not not build nukes is not going to help.
Leaving them alone and leaving the area would be best for America but will likely end bad for Isreal if it still exists afterward. I am not against this option as it has diplomatic advantage. We would be able to respond with much more force and ground troops on the front line wouldn't be necessary.

 

Then do what is best for America. Screw Israel.
