To Trump fake news is anything that points out that he has lied or that some of his associates were caught lying to federal investigators during an investigation. Was it fake news that he kind of sucked up to Putin the other day and accused our FBI and DOJ of being involved in a witch hunt?

I don't know who's responsible for the misleading and inaccurate title, but your OP points out that Trump said the "fake news media", not the press, is the "real enemy of the people". That's an important distinction and it should have been made in the title for accuracy's sake.

While I'm sure "progressives" are enamored with their propaganda bullhorns in the media who have thrown objectivity, integrity and facts to the wind, there are a lot of people who agree with the president's sentiments. I certainly don't consider the the media outlets and journalists who deliberately deceive and mislead the public to promote their own interests a friend/ally of the people.

It's a sad thing that the Fourth Estate is dead, but fortunately we are no longer beholden to the legacy media to obtain all the information we need to be informed citizens. The Internet has revolutionized people's access to information and as the old saying goes, knowledge is power.

All of that probably went right over the average Trumpster's head.

He's telling his Russian counterparts to work hard for the success of the cyber war he is successfully waging against the US.

That is clear.

He has gotten the US President to suborn the interests of the free world to that of Moscow (at least in his construct, anyway).

The US does not have much business in Russia. Putin talked about this, and the right wing noise machine apparently spread some thin spin about Trump going to Helsinki to negotiate an imaginary trade deal (at least two of the Trumpsters made that claim here).

It's obviously a ploy to end sanctions, which the Trump Administration is still dragging their feet on in defiance of Congress.

And the idea that Russia gives a damn about Isreal or its security is laughable. They have all but gotten Trump to acquiesce to their dominance of their client state next door.

 

From 2008 to 2016, I think the "rube count" was about as high as it's ever been; and the critical press about the least critical it's ever been. Today, it is just the opposite.
