Think about it. For Putin, Trump was a strange, erratic, unpredictable person whose actions could not easily be assigned to either liberal or conservative agendas -- Trump had changed political party affiliations numerous times in the past. Trump was therefore 'unmanageable', unreliable, 'unreadable', and potentially hostile and dangerous to Russia.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, was completely predictable, venal, money-grubbing, and corrupt. Her experience as a "Secretary of State" was laughable -- all she did was fly around the world shoveling out billions of dollars in 'aid' to countries that laugh at us and hate our guts. Putin could have 'played her like a piano', and out-matched her in every encounter, just as he did with that inept, stupid NOTHINGNESS that sat in the Oval Office up until January 2017.

I'm reading valid arguments on both sides.

It's not really our business to interfere if Russia and Germany want to make an oil/gas agreement....so generally, I think sanctions here are us meddling in other peoples' business instead of minding our own. Since Germany can get product cheaper from Russia, that makes sense for them to do so.

However, it is also not our job to pay the largest portion of Europeans' defense anymore. They chide us for not having broad social services like they have, but they wouldn't have so much government "free stuff" for their own citizens if we weren't providing the bulk of the funding for their defense. There has been plenty of time for Europe to build their own defenses since WWII. Since we've taken care of it at our expense, they think we have some moral obligation to continue to do so, and have slacked at developing their military strength.

When you start doling out "free money", either to citizens or to other countries, at some point it's looked at as an entitlement, not a gift. It's not an entitlement.

No, I said that an oil agreement between Russia and Germany is not our business, and it's a mistake to interfere. I'm agreeing with you on that point.

But yes, I expect we will continue to work together on projects which are in our mutual interest. Otherwise, there really is no reason for us to be spending U.S. tax dollars for NATO expenses if we don't have many common interests to work toward.

I believe all common interest projects should be halted until Nordstream 2 is completed. In that regard i find it good, that Germany now will no longer support sanctions against Russia.
