What does the government having its own news outlet have to do with socialism?

A world wide government news outlet would be an alternative to CNN on the world scene, so why not? Britain has the BBC, Russia RT and Sputnik, and I'm sure other nations have their own media's.

Look, the more news outlets there are, the more informed people are. The pity is that it won't affect the American people in any way, since our government and the media work in tandem. In that sense all our information comes from one source, so it is total mind control - that is unless people are perceptive enough to get on to foreign non MSM news sources, or informative internet sites. But not many are.

Besides, it would be a lot more honest than the CIA paying foreign editors - which bodes the question: Are German editors and other foreign editors refusing to be outlets for our propaganda, something that has been commonplace until now? This means that Washington sees having its own foreign news source a necessity so as to foster its agendas, and really has nothing to do with CNN.

Of course there's the downside, since it means that Washington can send its regime change propaganda directly into the Russian Federation and the different Republics. If Moscow was to shut it down, then Washington would have an excuse to shut down RT and Sputnik and keep us in the dark about what's going on. I wouldn't doubt that either.

This of course bodes another question: Would an American news broadcast be subject to Russia's 'fake news' laws?

Government owning and operating businesses is pretty much the definition of socialism.

 

I think this is a good idea- if done properly - as in Journalists would be given free reign. The BBC for example and Canada's CBC is way better than any of our so called "News" networks.

Our MSM - including print media - is mostly a propaganda arm of the Establishment /State.

 

I have a feeling a government-run news program in the U.S. would turn out just as socially Left-leaning as the mainstream news programs.

It might at least have better quality content though.

It somewhat used to be at times, but it's pretty conservative/pro-war/business cheerleading now I think.

 

Didn't COMMUNISTS always nationalize businesses??and the media???

 

Gov't funded .. how to run it is another question. Somehow it would have to be run completely outside Gov't influence of any kind.

I got to laugh about Trump and the FanBoys wanting a state run media ... hell, don't they understand that these powers they want to hand Trump STAY with the office - they don't disappear just because it isn't a Republican sitting there. So they are advocating that the next Democrat in office have his/her own state run media with a Democrat President appointing the officials who run it ...

I suppose you don't remember what voice of America is... The horror... CNN lost all credibility around the time they publicly positioned themselves as the defender of Obama. Ted says he doesn't even recognize his creature anymore. It's laughable.

Trump wants to create a taxpayer funded network to counter CNN, because he thinks CNN is being unfair to him. I do NOT want my money used to help Trump cope with his thin-skin syndrome.

 

Nah no no. No more gubmint broadcasting, Just get rid of PBS and NPR.

 

The left has taxpayer supported outlets like NPR, and PBS, and then there is Yahoo, Facebook, Google, Twitter, and the MSM filtering content and applying their own form of censorship.

You have a point - it is an ugly hypocrisy. This however does not change the fact that CNN is an arm of the Establishment propaganda machine - keeping in mind that the Establishment is both Red and Blue. While there are different factions in the establishment with different agendas such that sometimes they fight with each other- It is on the issues that they agree that we should worry citizens the most.

This is what most people miss.
