Let the rest of the nation collapse to save the farmers and they will have no one left to feed.

    What an ignorant statement.

If you're unable or unwilling to read a thread in full then I, unlike Ms Cortez, will not help you. I did my best in this thread to point out that farmers have been taking a beating since Obama took office. I never blamed Obama for the crash nor Trump for the low prices today, I said there are several factor China being one. It's also great that Trump is trying to correct the China problem and if he pulls it off he'll keep farmer support. The OP tried to challenge and say it was Trumps fault then you jumped in with you're -2cents worth. One could say damn during the last 12 years lost almost 40% of their products revenue, something needs to be done. Instead the OP is quoting the Huffington Post, yes the Huffington Post telling us why farmers are going bankrupt and blaming Trump.

You lefties are so damn intent to make everything a Trump issue that you blind yourself from facts and it makes you look obtuse and ignorant. You constantly paint Trump supporters in a negative light. You want some irony, I came from nothing and I've got a company that makes great products that help these farmers become more Green than they are today. Shocking I know, I didn't ask uncle Sam to help me innovate nor do I ask them to demand farmers to become more Green. I would be willing to bet I buy and sell more solar panels in a month than you libbys on this board will buy in a lifetime. I appreciate the corporate tax cut it allowed me to lower my pricing, hire more people, truly cut carbon emissions and most importantly save farmers real dollars to help them survive. I then get on this board an laugh at the village idiots that talk about becoming more green and what's possible and what's not. I laugh when I see they want the government to demand and even pay to help people become more green. The fact is Capitalism is the only way people like me create products that can be competitive enough to make things that accomplish the green goal at affordable rates. Bottom line I tries to help you guys in this thread understand better, I assure you I'm doing my part.

Where in any of that wall of text is an explanation of how China was manipulating the agriculture commodity market as you claimed???

I'm not even talking about Trump in this question. You claimed that China did something and Obama failed to act. What is that something???

Só you have now reduced the political process to tit-for-tat.

Congratulations. I’ll be sure to ignore your ideals next time my side is in power. In fact, a little revenge might be in order.

Is this the path you want to take ?

Yes, by Republicans and now taken to a ridiculous extreme by the trumpettes.

Dirty Donnie needs to go down hard to stop this self destructive path we are on. Our political process needs to return to actual dialogue and compromise instead of this age of fake news, alternative facts and outright lies.

They were "hoping" and now filing for bankruptcy? Farm income was already down last year due to overall commodity price drops. And it's all Trump's fault?

"According to figures from the U.S. Agriculture Department, farm income last year was about 50 percent of what it was in 2013, the Wisconsin State Farmer reported.

The dairy industry was hopeful about meeting growing demand in China, but now trade is a major stumbling block. “The problem is that both nations have stubborn leaders,” Mark Stephenson, director of dairy policy analysis at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, said at an agricultural forum last week in Madison."

From the WSJ article the Huffpost refers
"A wave of bankruptcies is sweeping the U.S. Farm Belt as trade disputes add pain to the low commodity prices that have been grinding down American farmers for years."
    Farmers in Distress
U.S. farm debt is approaching record highs set around the 1980s farm crisis, and delinquency rates have climbed.

The years start at 2008 through 2018

    And
"Soybeans were also a major victim.Agriculture prices live and die by exports. In all commodities, we’re heavily dependent on China, especially for soybeans,” Kevin Bernhardt, agribusiness professor at the University of Wisconsin in Platteville, told the Milwaukee Independent."

China signs second-largest deal for U.S. soybeans

(Reuters) - A delegation of commodity importers from China signed agreements on Thursday to buy 12.53 million tonnes of U.S. soybeans and 371 tonnes of U.S. beef and pork even as President Donald Trump warned about issuing trade sanctions against the country.
The total value of the combined soybean and meat deals was set at $5.012 billion by the U.S. Soybean Export Council. The beef deal came just weeks after China reopened its market to U.S. supplies after a 14-year ban.

For a different perspective, some facts from the American Farm Bureau Federation:

    https://www.fb.org/market-intel/farm-bankruptcies-in-2018-the-truth-is-out-there

    Excerpts: Emphasis added for clarity

    State-Level Farm Bankruptcies
Reviewing farm bankruptcies at the national level does not tell the full story. Certain sectors of the farm economy have suffered several consecutive years of low prices and revenue. For example, cash receipts for dairy farms fell by nearly 30 percent from 2014 to 2015 and have remained at depressed levels, and below the 10-year average. Similarly, cash receipts from wheat have fallen by 45 percent since the 2013 high and have remained below $10 billion for four consecutive years. (The 10-year average was $11.5 billion) Corn cash receipts are down 33 percent from 2012 and have been below the 10-year average for four consecutive years.

    Summary
Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies in the U.S. were down in 2018 compared to prior-year levels.

This situation is likely to worsen. Farm debt is record-high, the debt-to-asset ratio has climbed for six consecutive years, and farm debt as a proportion of annual farm income is at 97 percent—a 32-year high. In addition, lending standards are tighter and the cost of credit is rising. There are options before bankruptcy relief, and certainly many farmers have liquidated assets to discharge debt. How much longer can many others endure remains a question.

Of course not. The Chinese flood cash to the Left, as they have for years, since Clinton gave them the Rocket Technology they needed for their intercontinental ballistic missile program. They Flood Cash to US universities, Left Wing Think Tanks and Left Wing politicians. In Exchange the entire US Left and even much of the GOPe carries water for the Chinese on nearly every subject, despite the destruction to the US worker that resulted when they walked off with our manufacturing base. Thanks to Trump, those jobs ARE coming back!

And Trump always seems to be one step ahead of the Chinese Communists:

China Talks With Venezuela Opposition to Protect Investments. “Chinese diplomats discuss debt, oil projects with Guaidó camp as pressure mounts against ally Maduro.”

Chinese diplomats, worried over the future of its oil projects in Venezuela and nearly $20 billion that Caracas owes Beijing, have held debt negotiations in Washington in recent weeks with representatives of Juan Guaidó, the opposition leader heading the U.S.-backed efforts to oust Mr. Maduro, according to people familiar with the talks.

“China recognizes the increasing risk of a regime change and does not want to be on the bad side of a new regime,” said R. Evan Ellis, an expert on Chinese relations in Latin America at the U.S. Army War College. “While they prefer stability, they realize they have to put eggs in the other basket.”

The talks are a sign of the apprehensions building with creditors of Venezuela’s leftist government. Over nearly two decades, loans-for-oil deals with China and Russia have provided vital support for Venezuela. Relations flourished under Mr. Maduro’s predecessor, the late socialist strongman Hugo Chávez, who fortified ties with those countries, Cuba, Iran and even India in an effort to combat U.S. power.

It wonder what kind of guarantees Guaidó Might accept in exchange for the threat of balking on the Chavista debts to Beijing. They might be worth it, to gain additional leverage in trade talks with China.

Please quote where I claimed victory. The current strategy could absolutely fail, but the objective is more than obvious. Manufacturing in the US is cost prohibitive. China makes things cheaply, pollutes the hell out of out planet, and uses the money to buy our real estate. We end up with crap that will be in our landfills withing a few years and they get a victory. (Get it, victory is an outcome)

My opinion would be different if they were not stealing our intellectual property.

They weren't expectations they were hopes and there fall in commodity prices going back to 2008 have nothing to do with any tariffs. Trump just signed a HUGE soybean deal with China. Start planting soybeans. There is a milk GLUT, switch to something else. Trump did get the Canadian market open but it is a relatively small market. Let's all get behind his trade efforts, let the Congress make sure the Chinese know we are and go after trade a FAVORABLE trade deal with China on milk.

    even worse.
No one has said that the drop from 2008 (an aberration) had anything to do with tariffs.
Um, Trump didn't sign anything. China bought soybeans in December, ahead of an expected tariff hike.
So we should switch the cows to what? Or should dairy farmers sell all of their cows and retire?
Trump got a sliver of the Canadian milk market to open. Because he sucks at deal making.
