"The diplomatic cable from Beijing arrived in Washington late on Friday night, with systematic edits to a nearly 150-page draft trade agreement that would blow up months of negotiations between the world's two largest economies, according to three U.S. government sources and three private sector sources briefed on the talks.

The document was riddled with reversals by China that undermined core U.S. demands, the sources told Reuters.

In each of the seven chapters of the draft trade deal, China had deleted its commitments to change laws to resolve core complaints that caused the United States to launch a trade war: theft of U.S. intellectual property and trade secrets; forced technology transfers; competition policy; access to financial services; and currency manipulation".

It's irrational to start a trade war to "protect" jobs that aren't coming back.

Do you think that Photo Hut jobs will return with the right policies, too?

    Exactly. Adapt.

Here I thought Americans were nimble and adapted to a changing world. I guess Bonespurs thinks that we're a load of whiny ******* who can't or won't adapt, and is lying to us by using stupid tactics.

Uh, no. You see, in the real world, those kinds of jobs are located in countries like China and Vietnam because the cost of labor in those countries is something we simply cannot compete with.

How do you think that those jobs will magically come back?[/QUOTE]

And he withdrew from the Trans Pacific Partnerhip, costing us bigly.

Why, because he's an idiot who doesn't understand international trade.

    Exactly.

International trade is not a zero sum game, which is something our orange halfwit president doesn't grasp. Even a trade deficit is meaningless.

An agreed to deal was taken home by negotiators. Hard liners vetoed it so the tarrifs are on. It's called negotiating for a reason.

nope, the trade team always said, they need top approval. also the deal require china change their law, they don't have authority to do that. you can dig deeper on this than mainstream media. but either way if 2019 draft was anything like 2018 one, china will not comply with it. furthermore, we don't have unified front against them, while they already promise EU/japan with $$ and deal just to make sure US wont ally with EU/Japan on this. Trump made a big blunder by isolating EU/Japan/etc on this.

Either way the deal was agreed to in negotiations and vetoed on arrival in China so nothing is left to do but implementation of threatened sanctions.

It would be more accurate to ask if its wise to sign over the deed to your home and hope the neighbor treats you right afterward

It sounds as if you'd what? invade China? Because, to your point, how else would the US "grab the whip and throw it in the garbage" unless we were willing to do so? Ignoring the issue also doesn't "grab the whip" as you phrased it. So, what is your proposal here?

    Another facially absurd "analogy".

What is it with you guys and your inability to draw analogies?

There's a lot of space in between "invading China" and adopting a smarter negotiating strategy.

Wealth is not the same things as material. Wealth is a condition of perception. It doesn't translate as commodity or real property. So, nothing is actually :"destroyed", only revalued.
