U.S. Navy’s Costliest Carrier Was Delivered Without Elevators to Lift Bombs

The US Navy has actually 11 Aircraft Carriers in Service, 10 are of Nimitz class and 1 is of the new Gerald-R,-Ford-Class! In addition to these 11 real aircraft carriers, there are others that look like a smaller aircraft carrier, but by definition are not - the 8 ships of the Wasp class - which are LHD's = Landing Helicopter Dock = Amphibious landing vessels!

These 11 aircraft carriers are in constant use, subsequent overhaul and repair, including conversion and modernization, then operational preparation and then deployment again. So it's never all carriers in active service at the same time ... and that's normal and your accusing is out of this nonsense as it is untrue that 8 are currently not in service!

If I were a programmer working on intelligent guidance systems for anti-ship missiles, I would, of course, selfishly want my job to be as easy as possible.

If my boss said, "you've got to design a missile that can interpret radar and satellite imagery and other positioning data, to hit a small, fast, low-profile fibre-class boat" .... I would say, "Jeez boss ... that's a tough assignment... can't I have an easier one?"

And if he said, "Well, I could put you on our Easy, Beginner's Project: designing a guidance system that can hit a large, high profile, slow, heat-generating, metal target ... and one that will have metal airplanes landing and taking off from it , with radio communications from it to the planes .. lots of radio-frequency spectrum emissions.." ... oh, I would be SO grateful!!!! Do that one in my sleep.

On the other hand .. I've been to Fleet Week in the Bay Area ... and those carriers are so beautiful!!! Well worth 13 billion. What else do we have to spend the money on?

 

How about ...
Your dilapidated public schools, unoccupied teachers' posts, your dilapidated bridges in the country, your ailing telephone networks, your ailing power grids ...

The American Civil Society of Engineers, the largest professional association of engineers, rated the US infrastructure with the overall grade D +!

Sure ... Trump, wants to modernize all that, which costs about 1.5 trillion US dollars, according to its own figures of the US government, but from federal funds he wants to provide ur 400 billion and also save, for example, in schools!

 

How about Medicare?

Or improving infrastructure across the nation?

Or any one of dozens of needed projects that help Americans in general?

As opposed to awarding the defence contractors clover for ever?

Just a thought though...

 

For example try to make free health care. Or allocate this money to create real jobs. There are many ways to intelligently spend this money.

Even the new American aircraft carrier is not in operation due to defects. In that case, what can we say about old American ships?... However, even American generals recognize the pitiable condition of the American fleet.

 

Sure, the newest one has some problems, what is not unusual for a complete new system to have where no earlier test run to check is possible.
About the old one ... what are these 10 carriers of the Nimitz class, they are so far in good condition. They have to serve as all nujclear powered carriers for about 50 years and they will be replaced by this new Gerlad-R.-Forc-Class carriers. The oldest one - USS Nimitz itself .. should be replaced when the second or the third new carrier is ready.

 

If you find it insulting then evaluate what you do here and use your powerful logic to understand you just insulted yourself.

There's plenty of room to debate the development philosophy in naval ship building. Whether it makes greater fiscal sense to develop all new technologies to a high level before using them in a design, or doing the design and development as the ship is built and tested at sea. Both methods are valid and result in advances. One may cost more, another may take more time.

This aircraft carrier already displays many exceptional design accomplishments. Eventually it will be completed, all technologies proven reliable and rugged. That is the nature of pushing technological envelopes, many setbacks will happen on the way to final success. We did not fly to the Moon on the first rocket built. The first submarine did not explore the deepest parts of the ocean. Nor did the 100th rocket or submarine.

If there is any big expensive science, engineering and technology project that played out cheap, simple, quick and easy, I have never heard of it.
