The latest news is the Biden Administration and Democrats are planning to completely get rid of and sell off the nation's emergency stockpile of gasoline.

This seems like a cheap trick, to flood the market and lower gas prices right before election time, making the public feel the economy is "good".

But of course it will come at a long-term cost to the U.S., and the U.S. will not be prepared for emergencies or supply shortages in the future.

The media of course is going to try to convince the public this is a perfectly normal and reasonable thing to do.

The Biden Administration sold off a big chunk of the reserves to try to keep gas prices from rising, and those reserves were never refilled.
Now, rather than spend the money to refill what was taken out, they're talking about just liquidating all of it!

see related thread from 8 months ago:
U.S. Strategic Oil Reserve level 40% down from a year ago

Pay attention to all the Biden supporters in that thread who insisted Biden would refill those reserves after gas prices went down.

(Of course the Left doesn't think this way. Got to raid the cookie jar!)

US to sell emergency gasoline stockpile - Offshore Technology (offshore-technology.com), Kit Million Ross, September 6, 2023

    This just turns my stomach!

Why have you used a fake title for this thread?

Why are you calling it a fake title?

(Just to clarify: The emergency gasoline stockpile is separate and much smaller than the strategic oil reserve. But it still represents a continuation of irresponsible policies, considering that the oil taken out of the strategic reserve a year ago has never been put back)

The SPR is still lower today than when I started that thread complaining about it.
In that thread I complained that it was down to 372.28 million, compared to 617.77 a year before. Today it's down to 349.54

It's enigmatic of Leftist mentality. Raid the stashes, take anything that's saved. "No use saving anything if you're not going to spend it!"
"Why save for the future when you can spend now?"

We can just listen to the opinions expressed by many of the members in this forum to see this.

They'll leave it for a future Republican Administration to deal with. Because then they know it will cost money to refill those reserves and send gas prices higher.

You don't know what the US strategic petroleum reserves were created for.. do you?

The US's strategic reserves were first created as a part of an international agreement. Those reserves were literally created for the intended purpose of being sold in the international market. In fact, all countries who are members of International Energy Agency have their own reserves for international market use. That was the established agreement made by all participating countries, as a means of preventing trade cut offs.

Still waiting for Biden to refill those reserves.

Don't think it's going to happen.

Heck, I wouldn't even be complaining if it at least looked like they were in the process of gradually putting oil back into the reserves, and it was on track to be filled back up to previous levels within 2 or 3 years. But that is not the case.

The obligation of those reserves is to make sure we meet international trade demands

Why do people insist on creating threads bashing one side or the other. Give a link to a website that is supposed to back up their claim and then when you read the story that THEY linked to you find out that the story is not even close to their claim?

I understand the idea that extreme partisans are going to lie about the other side...but to make a claim and then link to a story that refutes the very claim you are making seems to be a bit silly.

Either they just see the headline and don't bother to read the actual article or they assume that the rest of us are too stupid/lazy to actually read the story they provided the link for.

Yep, a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario that the hyper partisans just love.

Bash Biden for not refilling the reserves or, if he does, bash him because the price of gas goes up. (What do you think is going to happen if Biden redirects the oil from the international markets so it can be stored in the reserve?)

This is stupidity. We blame Biden for the price of gas going up for other reasons.

Selling off reserves should not excuse him.

You don't care about reasons, you just want something to bash Biden over. The very existence of this thread that you started is proof of that.

was a good idea to some then

https://www.offshore-technology.com/news/us-plans-to-sell-emergency-gasoline-stockpile/:~:text=The US Congress is planning, the necessity of the stockpile.

"The idea of selling the cache is not a new one, nor is it divided along partisan lines. In a 2017 budget request, then-President Donald Trump recommended getting rid of the stockpile, commenting that it “does not have the operational functionality that was envisioned post-Sandy”. Bloomberg also notes that the language recommending the sale is the same in bills proposed by both Republicans and Democrats."

Do you think you might be confusing the Strategic Oil Reserve with Hurricane Sandy relief stockpile, which is 1 million barrels of gasoline?

1 million barrels of gasoline will last 2.5 hrs in US, so probably not enough to win elections :D

Besides, your article says the Congress is thinking about selling it, not Brandon, and it adds:

"In a 2017 budget request, then-President Donald Trump recommended getting rid of the stockpile, commenting that it “does not have the operational functionality that was envisioned post-Sandy”.

What do you propose we do about Saudi Arabia openly admitting they plan on cutting production to impact the 2024 elections then?

If foreign enemy nations were manipulating global markets to help my “team” in elections I would be questioning if I was supporting the bad guys.

How cute. You think the president directs who they sell the reserves to!

you are welcome to read the multitude of threads in this forum about the former POTUS and bash away like fellow Democrat voters.
Pointing out bad policy is not bashing.

Except this is not bad policy. Both the Republicans and Democrats have submitted legislation to get rid of this.
There are 1 million barrels in this reserve. Texas, alone, uses about a million barrels A DAY

As someone in the very article linked in the OP said.
This reserve is too small to solve any problems but big enough to be expensive to maintain.

And that oil taken off the market is why we are paying $5.29 a gallon for regular in California.
Don't be shocked when the Saudi's cut oil supplies accordingly. They know we are running on empty with a lunatic at the wheel willing to buy votes at any cost.
The Saudi's have a scimitar to grind with Biden and they are going to do what it takes to get rid of him.

I am warmed that as a Democrat voter you believe a Democrat policy is not bad. At least you are constant in your support and never question all things Democrat. it is very telling

Before you ride off on that high horse, lets look at your thread creation history.

Lol , so its ok for you to create hyper partisan threads just not others.
