U.S. Sends Forces to Protect Syrian Oil Fields

The U.S. military sent fresh forces on Saturday to secure oil fields in eastern Syria, two U.S. officials said, as part of a pivot from a decision earlier this month to pull most American troops out of the country.

The movement of troops back into Syrian positions reflects a desire by Washington to preserve some leverage in the region, as Russian and Syrian forces have also moved in, filling a vacuum in areas once under U.S. influence.

Footage of a U.S. military convoy entering Syria from Iraq was released by the Iraqi Kurdish channel Rudaw. Residents of northeastern Syria also posted videos online showing a column of armored vehicles flying the American flag, said to have just crossed into the country from Iraq.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would ask why Trump tweeted twice on Oct. 25th that the "troops are coming home" when in fact troops are rolling into eastern Syria as we speak? Exactly what are we supposed to believe from this president?

Trump is posturing.. Russia got all oil rights from Assad last year to include potential offshore oil and gas fields. Trump called Putin last Wednesday, talked 90 minutes and changed his mind about withdrawal.

Oh. I was going to say that someone got to Trump. Someone perhaps loaded with money and has a stake in the oil fields.

Syria's oil fields are worth zilch.. tiny production, terrible quality. The fuss is over Turkstream and having sufficient gas to justify finishing this major Russian pipeline. Once it crosses Turkey into Greece they have too much capacity. The US wants a piece of the action. but our gas is 30% more expensive.. If you are a German family who are you going to buy gas from?

The problem with buying Russian oil is that they could threaten to stop it in the dead of winter if Europe doesn't comply with the Russian agenda.

I hate to be the one to say it, but I think Europe trusts Russia more than Trump.

Moving American troops back into Syria should come as no surprise. What would be a surprise is if our government was to tell the American people what is really going on instead of the usual lies.

Here's a bit of reality from the Russian Defence Ministry:

“What Washington does now – the capture and holding under its armed control of oil fields in Eastern Syria is, simply speaking, an international state banditism and that the Syrian oil reserves and other mineral resources belong solely to the Syrian Arab Republic, not to Daesh terrorists or to “American protectors from Daesh terrorists”.
Citing intelligence obtained via Russian Defence Ministry surveillance satellites, both before and after the Daesh defeat north of the Euphrates, Syrian oil was being actively extracted and smuggled to other countries, while being guarded by US soldiers.

In case of an attack on convoys, the US military immediately calls upon special operations forces and its air force for protection, he added.

According to the statement, oil extraction was conducted by a US-controlled company, created under the so-called “Autonomous Administration of East Syria”. The smuggling revenue went through intermediary companies to US intelligence agency and PMC bank accounts, he said.

“Considering one barrel of Syrian oil costs $38, the monthly revenue of this ‘private enterprise’ of US intelligence agencies is more than $30 million,” the statement reads. “For such a constant flow of cash, free of state control and taxes, Pentagon and Langley management will be ready to guard Syrian oil wells from ‘hidden Daesh cells’ indefinitely.”

So the US not only invaded Syria and supported terrorists, but is using mafia tactics to hold on to oil that belongs to the Syrian people to pay the CIA to the tune of 30 million a month. Bravo! :applause: We are now the world's largest criminal enterprise.

Assad signed over control of their oil interests now an in the future to Putin last year.

What's the name of this "American oil company"?

13,000 bpd of the sourest, poorest quality on the planet? That's not what's going on. Assad already signed all oil and gas rights now and in the future to Putin last year. There's NOTHING in Eastern Syria.. The prize is offshore in the Eastern Mediterranean if the market holds up. Trump is a boob.

Its not about oil. Syria has no oil.. They have a few depleted reserves and a lot of rusty old trucks lying around. There is potential for offshore oil and gas in the Eastern Med, but Assad signed an agreement with Russia last year. Trump is an old fool.

"Syria’s two biggest oil companies are the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC), which is owned by the Syrian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Al-Furat Petroleum Company, which is 50% owned by SPC and the other 50% foreign owned. The joint venture currently includes SPC with 50%, Anglo-Dutch Shell with 32%, and the remainder held by Himalaya Energy Syria, a consortium of China National Petroleum Company and India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. Another important consortium is Deir Ez Zor Petroleum Company, owned by SPC and France's Total. A more recent entrant is the United Kingdom's Gulfsands Petroleum."

So why aren't the British and French defending their business interests instead of the US?

Because Syrian oil production went south about 2005. Agriculture sector also collapsed. Syria was a dust bowl.

But apparently the quality is sufficient that the product can be sold somewhere. As the Russian satellite pictures show, vehicles carrying the Syrian oil are working steadily moving the product to market, stolen from the Syrians.
