You say, having said we should seize shipping and then sink it in the Gulf as an object lesson instead of doing anything vaguely useful with it.

All politicians are lying, worthless, whores but some lie more than others. Republicans stopped believing in democracy itself in 2016 and spent the next 4 years divesting themselves of any traces of self-respect or love of country in favor of worshipping possibly the silliest person to become a world leader in the entire sad saga of this beautiful planet.

And we should sink them all on the 4th of July to the sound of the Star Spangled Banner.

And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air …”

Abstinence comes via social pressure, not laws. It's a cultural choice, not a legal imperative.

All that stuff is possible now. Volunteering is possible now. Churches are available now. Clubs and groups are available now. Family and friends are available now.

Nothing and no one is MAKING people lonely. They do it to themselves.

Sorry Kranes, but this is total absurdity. The poorest people on earth live 15 to a home - so no one is ever lonely.

And you can't make people join groups/churches/clubs etc if they're determined to avoid them. All those things are available now .. so why aren't 'lonely' people utilising them? Why aren't they meeting up with book club pals at local parks, local libraries, or each other's homes? why aren't they volunteering at charities? Why aren't they spending more time with family?

Sink yourself, that way we don't lose anything of value. You're biodegradable, right?

Good point. With no government interference, there are many places for them to do. If they don;t like church, theres always the DMV!

The past 2 years, politicians, trying to milk Covid, had people staying at home. Many elderly did not see their family and even churches weren't allowed to have gatherings.

    Stop using drugs.
White people are the biggest users, punching above their weight. We know where the problems is.

Volunteering, Churches and most clubs don't have free food and drink. Lonely people are lonely because they don't have any friends and you'd be surprised at how many people have no family

this would encourage overdoses not reduce them.
I think the only way to do that is to pay on all social media.
You're the one talking about needle exchanges and community supported overdose locations. You're the one saying bad people are using drugs to let them all die.

That was just the event which revealed how selfish and isolated we've allowed ourselves to become. The damage was done over a long period of time, well before lockdowns.

You only need to look at how different people handled lockdowns. Some absolutely thrived, because they had all the company they needed at home and in their immediate communities. Eg we live in a street in which all the neighbours were outdoors for much of the day (gardening, walking, cycling, etc), and talking to each daily - and we're all owner-occupiers, so a very stable group who've earned each other's trust over many years. Plus none of us live alone - the smallest household in our street being three people, the largest being three generations plus.

Those adversely impacted by lockdowns live in unstable communities of transient renters, and often live alone. Living that way is a choice predicated upon the idea of invincibility - an idea propagated by the Welfare State over many decades. It's pure hubris, to imagine that's going to go well if the poop hits the fan - and even greater hubris to think the poop is never going to hit the fan (or worse again, that it won't hit YOUR fan).

WHY don't they have any friends? Friendship takes work and commitment (just like family, obviously). And it has nothing to do with wealth ... the poorest people on earth retain solid social networks all their lives. Consider the answer to the question of 'why', and you'll be better placed to avoid destructive 'fixes'.

And everyone has family. Whether you've spent your life protecting those relationships, and whether your relatives have done likewise, are the choices we all make. If your relatives are total sh!theads, you have two choices .. do nothing and accept that you'll be lonely, or put the same effort into building lifelong friendships as close as family. The only choice you DON'T have, is to do nothing then complain about being lonely.

The worst loneliness is after a broken relationship or a death of a loved one or a close friend. YOu can suffer that loneliness in a room full of people.

Most every lonely person I ever knew didn't complain (Who, after all would they complain to?)
And I've known quite a few people who had no family at all. It's not really uncommon among wartime survivors
Hopefully you yourself won't be plagued by these or any other of the problems we commonly associate with aging.

Sound logic. Same could be held with gun violence then. Stop shooting people. We know where the vast majority of gun violence lies....

Ask a question, get an answer, still don't engage in discussion. Bad faith.
