    If Kim Jong Un dies, 3 things might happen since there is no successor: NK craps itself from inside due to a military power struggle, or NK opens up to the world, & the worst possible wild card, China gets involve. And since China already f@#$%d the world with it's covid-19, the US gets into it!

    Thoughts?

    I think that if Kim dies, there will be a very careful testing of the political winds within the top generals. They will end up coalescing behind a new leader. North Korea is not a country where you want to make enemies because enemies end up dead very quickly ... or worse, not so quickly. I think a new leader would be conservative (by the North Korean definition) meaning that the goal would be to preserve power and privilege, and so not much would change.

    I seriously doubt he is in grave danger. He is still in his 30s, smoking and obesity kills a bit slower than that. If he was over 50 then you could seriously think something is going on over there.

    Maybe he's got the corona? The Norks have been very quiet about the disease, but I'm sure they've had at least a few cases. Probably "cured" them by firing squad, too.

    That’s a very optimistic view of things. An alternative is that the leader of NK wields so much power that there is the potential for a violent struggle (at the top) and purge.

    The only thing to be optimistic about is that Trump seems to have an instinct against resorting to military force. This probably stems from his narcissism. He thinks he can do a deal about anything. His record shows that he is pretty pathetic at making deals (in fact he usually gets played) but at least he isn’t likely to plunge the country into a land war in Asia.

    He’s not a warmonger because he’s a pathetic narcissistic fool. They are not mutually exclusive.

    In his case the fact that he is not a warmonger is directly related to the fact that he is a pathetic narcissistic fool.

    Which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Although China is Machiavelian, the country is at least stable.
