We have had very much an on/off relationship - that is the people's attitude to the US Government, not the deep state and I doubt anything will change there.

Are you talking about the tit for tat in banning? They US were offering n o t h i n g with their Trade Deal.

Have you noticed that the Coronavirus has stopped all talk on the climate emergency. :lonely: People were wondering why Governments were concerned about this when they could not give a toss about the coming loss of the planet. I can see it was because it is a good way to get thinking and demands off that - though of course stopping industry, planes and so on will be good for the planet and if we continue after even better - that is if it does not destroy the masking effect.

What makes you think the UK and US are in such a bad relationship. I think it will just be that Boris's ego is as big as Trump's and he has surprised him by not being a doormat - or possibly it is all just a show. :)

Well we together did our share in WW2 and Cold WAR.. Seems the nations have drifted apart...
USA seems closer to Israel these days than the UK

Couple of my aunts had a fine old time carrying on with the Yanks in WWII, but afterwards they married Jewish lads so maybe parts of the UK are closer to Israel as well.

People here in London from the US and from Afghanistan act the same but since they're in the opposite direction from one another and a world away from each other; don't regard each other's country in the highest regard; but the stories I hear sound the same; hard working/wanting a better life/likes being in the UK/likes where they come from etc...
So to me, it just saddens me Afghanistan and the United States don't talk more
If American and Afghan people spoke more they'd probably find they have more in common.
Politics is an example of something not mattering when it comes to relations with a country; take Afghanistan, take the United States of America even; The government might be an arse, and the people might not like it - but people from America and from Afghanistan sound the same with different acts and stories.
People from the EU don't and people from Australia just sound happy like people from Canada but Afgani people and Americans sound the same/same attitude, to me.

The UK people were really not with the US during the Vietnam war. We were burning your flag all the time and at one time they were even concerned that the US Embassy was safe. Before WW2 or maybe it was one but around that time the US had intention of colonising Canada and going to war with us (the UK)

As I said before the people were different to the deep state. Apparently the reason they did not try to get us to the Vietnam, war was because they believed it would cause revolution.

My memory is most certainly not of the UK and US apart from deep state having any close relationship until 9/11. Europe was really against war at this time. The US was always at it. I had thought and we had seemed to be moving closer to you. If it is Boris who moves us away that will be quite amusing and definitely a relief.

US people weren't with the UK against the IRA with everyday Americans funding the IRA in America too.

That is true they were the main funders for the terrorism against us and kept Gaddafi wealthy as the IRA got most of their weapons from him.

In all fairness I think it was mostly the NY and Boston Irish being morbidly patriotic for the country they had actually no knowledge about?

and many of them funding it were Irish Scot's of Protestant descent. They just liked the idea.

What is also interesting is that most early Irish who moved to the States never even thought of themselves as Irish but from the village/district they came from.

..sorry...what about it? Are you are being coy about something?
Your discussion is about UK / US relations.... not UK / Israel
