So if it is nothing to fear, why did Dirty Donny ban flights from Europe for 30 days?

Iran has a good track record when it comes to epidemics and public health issues, but its initial response to this virus was certainly poor and worse. Due to various pressures Iran is under, the initial reaction was to downplay the virus and encourage people to participate in political rallies and in Iran's parliamentary elections. Additionally, flights to China weren't cancelled either. The combination of these things created a situation where Iran became one of the places where the virus has been spreading the most. Since then, however, and in the past couple of weeks in particular, the response from Iran's government has been excellent and above reproach (the polemics and propaganda notwithstanding). Even Iran's public has done a good job for the most part in heeding the public health messages they receive, but in certain places (especially in Tehran and a few other large cities) you also have a large number of people who are ignoring those messages and going out in the public, engaging in travel, and other high risk behavior.

First - then you have to acknowledge there is something to fear. Not “nothing to fear” as you said.
Second - it won’t prevent infected people from travelling.
It won’t stop infected Americans from returning.
And I know someone who was supposed to be flying from one of the “banned” countries next week. His flight has been rebooked via London.

The goal isn't to contain it; the goal is to slow the spread so that we don't overwhelm our health facilities. Slowing the spread will even out the curve.

Stock Market Alert - Trump will be addressing the nation AGAIN today at 3PM...

Giving you one last chance to sell your holdings before the market crashes again during one of his speeches...

Since I'm not planning on cashing on any of my stocks for at least 7-10 years (I hope), I don't care.

Because most of the cases originate in Asia and Europe. Good enough reason for you?

Hope that plan works out for you... I would hope you would wish me the same...

The futures DIVED during his speech on Wednesday, so I'd expect more of the same today.

My wealth advisers are telling me to stay the course, so stay the course I will.

Still, I haven't logged on to my Schwab account since 2/23.... Too terrified to look...

Nah there is nothing to fear, but certainly you don’t want to spread an illness. If I had a cold or the flu I wouldn’t want to spread it either

Yes we will bring Americans home.

If this was just like the cold or the flu, this young woman, Narges Khanalizadeh, would still be alive. She was a 25 year old nurse who died from the coronavirus, on the front lines of treating patients in Iran who had contracted the virus. And she isn't the only otherwise healthy person to have died from the virus either.

That's sad but it happens by the thousands every year with the flu virus. I feel your pain but there is only so much that can be done, especially in Iran.

This makes no sense. If there is truly NOTHING to fear, there is no reason to take ANY action.

So you must both agree that Trump must be hugely over reacting to ban flights - when there is NOTHING to fear (according to a truth).

Yes... he allowed doctors and business leaders to speak (I'm guessing that's who most of these people are, since I have this on mute) instead of "winging" it all himself (Pun intended)

Getting experts to the mic usually makes people feel better...

Also, this is the proper use of "National Emergency", unlike another time we won't speak of...

    Long climb back...

Yeah - because shutting down all flights from Europe is comparable with washing your hands.

Shutting down flights like this has only happened once in my lifetime. After 9/11. That step - and Trump’s declaration of a national emergency - is hardly consistent with “nothing to fear “.

If Europe’s response is late and not strong enough, you must surely be pushing for all schools and universities to close immediately. For entire cities to be locked down and quarantined. For all businesses to be closed except essential services

Because that’s what’s happening in parts of Europe right now.

So do you think all schools, universities should be closed immediately?
