2 killed as tens of thousands protest Israeli assault across West Bank

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinians were killed and dozens injured across the West Bank on Friday night as Israeli forces opened fire on thousands of demonstrators protesting in solidarity with the besieged Gaza Strip.

Thousands took part in rallies in Bethlehem, Tulkarem, Jenin, Nablus, Salfit, and dozens of other towns and villages across the West Bank that were called for by all Palestinian parties and factions.

The rallies come after a day of heavy protests across the West Bank, with six deaths as thousands took part in a "Day of Rage" following the largest protest since the Second Intifada on Thursday which brought more than 20,000 to a march at Qalandia checkpoint. In Beit Fajjar near Bethlehem, Nasri Mahmoud Taqataqa, 16, was shot dead by Israeli forces during a protest in the village.

In Jenin, around 10,000 took part in a protest march that led to the Jalame checkpoint north of the city.

Bassem Safi Sadeq Abu Rob, of Qabatiya, was shot dead and thirty injured during clashes there, medical officials said.

Ali Zakarana, a PLO spokesman, said that among the 30 injured were a number with dangerous wounds in the eye and the chest that had been taken to hospitals in Nablus.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not immediately return calls seeking comment on the deaths.

In Tulkarem, clashes broke out with Israeli soldiers at the Netanya checkpoint west of the city after thousands marched there, where forces opened fire with tear gas and stun grenades.

In Bethlehem around 3,000 took part in a march against the Israeli assault beginning at Manger Square and ending in the area of Rachel's Tomb, where the separation wall passes through the northern neighborhoods of the city.

At least two were injured and dozens suffered from excessive gas inhalation during the clashes, which broke out late Friday and continued into the early hours on Saturday.

Clashes also took place in the villages of al-Walaja and Tuqu near Bethlehem, where dozens of youths confronted Israeli forces.

Eight Palestinians were injured with live fire after Israeli forces dispersed thousands of demonstrators in solidarity with Gaza.

Eyewitnesses said that Israeli forces used silenced weapons to target demonstrators in the march.

Thousands also took part in a rally in Nablus launched from Beit Dajan, east of the city, as well as in Beit Furik, where clashes broke out at Bita checkpoint.

In Salfit, Shaher Riyan was injured after Israeli forces shot him in the foot during the second rally in the last two days in the villages, while dozens of other suffered from excessive tear inhalation.

11 were injured at the southern checkpoint of Qalqiliya after Israeli forces opened fire with live bullets, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear gas grenades.

Medics of the Red Crescent said that one demonstrator was shot in the thigh by Israeli forces and was taken to Nazzal Governmental Hospital.

Tens of thousands have taken part in protests held across the West Bank in the last two weeks as an Israeli assault on Gaza killed more than 850 people.

The attack has led to rising public anger against Israel as well as the Palestinian Authority, which many feel has not done enough to stop the killing.[/quote]

The destruction of Gaza and the mass killing of the Gazan people began in the West Bank when the people were rounded up like animals after the kidnapping and murder of three teen by we know not who.

Last week either 9 or ten West Bank Palestinians were murdered. One by a settler who also injured two others. We can see eight have been killed in the last two days. How would we feel if people in our own countries went on marches and ended up dead? What changes would we want?

Oh great... killing protestors will expand the conflict and Israel will still claim victim status.

Why aren't the left wing partisan hacks here crowing about the administrations successful negotiations resulting in a 72 hour truce?

    Oh wait....

It's a shame that violent thugs hid behind large groups of protestors while they attacked an Israeli border post.

The UN has made it categorically clear that there were no weapons in either of the schools Israel attacked and killed civilians in. There was no exc use was there on words but that is not even what this thread is about.

Interesting that the article in the OP says Israeli forces "opened fire on thousands of demonstrators" and the headline is "2 killed as tens of thousands protest Israeli assault across West Bank."

Just from a logical perspective alone one wonders why only 2 were killed. Either the Israelis are really bad at aiming or the Israelis really don't want to kill many people or the story is propaganda.

No true. It is correct that the UN has found weapons in EMPTY SCHOOLS. What did she do? Demand that they were taken away. Every single building which they put refugees in or used in any other way they checked. No weapons of any kind. No Hamas hiding in the children's cot's. No doubt the reason for the checks was because Israel used that excuse to murder civilians in Cast Lead. You I see use Israel psychology. Because the UN demanded Hamas take away weapons in empty buildings, you see that as an excuse to bomb and murder helpless refugees who have already had their homes flattened by her. Shame on you.

The UN has said categorically that there were no weapons in either of the schools that Israel bombed and no excuse for bombing them and murdering the children. Seems you did not bother to watch any news yesterday. Even the US at last had to say it was unacceptable and indefensible

What have the Palestinians done to you that you want them murdered some 16 or younger. oh great if it is an Israeli then it is a child and 500 Palestinians have to be arrested and tortured, whole towns have to be put under house arrest and 9 Palestinians have to die.

Then of course you get the joy of taking a Palestinian child and burning him aliove.

Always the Palestinians to die because people do not recognise them as human beings. Last week according to witnesses there was no justification. None were armed and then of course there were settlers taking pot luck at them. All good fun if they are Palestinians eh?

This week for the latest two
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/02/world/middleeast/2-palestinians-killed-in-west-bank-clashes.html

I though the West had advanced from supremacist views but it is clear with your willingness for Palestinians to be shot, even making up untrue tales, anything to justify the killing of a sub human arab that we have not.

I'm sorry I mixed it up with the "Day of Rage" violence.

The Palestinians die because Hamas uses them as human shields.

We're told that the demonstrators number in the thousands, but the deaths are in single digits. I don't condone the whole Israel/Palestine deal, but this tells me that Israel exhibits monumental restraint.
The demonstrators have basically always known what they ask for. I see this alarming note that IDF used silenced weapons. Well, of course. It's a modified Ruger 10/.22 that was developed in 1987. It has a 9" barrel with a 1 in 9" twist, and a rather long suppressor. Here's the link to the most popular page about it:
    http://www.ruger1022.com/docs/israeli_sniper.htm
There's even a special load for it, made by Aguila in Mexico. Read the link. This thing has been around for 27 years. You'd think they'd consider it before they demonstrate!

The Palestinian civilians died because they were fired upon by Israel.

According to the Israelis... However.. families move into shelters like schools and hospitals whenever Israel conducts airstrikes.. They always have. Israel shelled 30 homes about 3 days ago. ... and they have destroyed 7 hospitals and 56 mosques.

stop storing weapons in hospitals and schools and mosques, and Israel won't strike them.

you think Israel just destroys Mosques and hospitals and schools for the fun of it?

    no, they are not ISIS.
