Ummm ... I hate to be picky, but Rolls Royce never made a 12-cylinder Allison engine, nor did they ever put it into a car. Allison made the V-1710 - a V-12 designed for aircraft.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allison_V-1710

The Rolls Royce V-12 was known as the PV-12, and later as the Merlin - probably the most successful aircraft engine of WW2 - which powered the Hawker Hurricane, the Supermarine Spitfire, the Fairey Battle, and the Avro Lancaster. It was enlarged later in the war and became the Rolls Royce Griffon which was developed to produce 2,450 bhp. The Merlin was also produced under licence by the Packard Motor Corporation as the V-1650. It powered the Kittyhawk and P51 Mustang fighters, but the Packard 'Merlins' were down on power - 1,390 bhp compared to the Rolls Royce units, which produced 2.030 bhp (Merlin) and 2,450 bhp (Griffon) respectively.

Rolls Royce have produced V-12 engined cars, but none which have any relationship to the Allison engine, and none which used the Merlin engine.

well, I have had two Ford Focuses (Focus's??) anyway...the first one, a 2007 didn't have it and I fishtailed like CRAZY on even moderately wet roads, it was such a light car that even on the highway when a semi came by it would get loose (and man is that scary..there were a couple of times I almost ended up under the semi...) Another time I lost traction and spun off into a ditch...the durn car was so light though it didn't dig into the wet ground and I was able to drive off out of it...(yes, operator error..a deer ran across in front of me and knowing deer never travel alone I braked...too hard...)

I now have a 2010 with traction control and the difference is profound. I have not felt the least amount of looseness on wet roads, I don't fishtail when semis pass me...same driver, same basic car, the only difference is the traction control system..

I recall that both the Allison & the Rolls-Royce/Packard V12 airplane engines were used in unlimited-class racing boats. (I also recall seeing Allisons in a few unlimited-class pulling tractors.)

I have no doubt they were, I have no knowledge of or interest in racing boats, but I do have an interest in aircraft and motor cars. My only point was a relatively unimportant one - that Rolls Royce never made what you described as a 'Rolls Royce Allison' engine. :)

True, Jags are one of my favorite exotics. As I age I like faster and faster cars and bikes so dont you young punks worry (ha ha) you will still like the same things you always have, I used to worry that when I got old I would want a crown vic ha ha, nah not unless it has a 800 hp 427 in it! Did you see the Jag turbine engine show car? Its beautiful and uses two jet engines to turn four electric motors at each wheel, its a piece of 205 mph (electronically limited) eye candy... Oh and for you anti Harley guys a harley bagger has just ran 191 mph at Bonneville! Yep it was slightly modified but a street bike. He should put that motor in a street sport bike. I hope to build a HD pro stock pr pure dragster to promote my ministry, heck racing for Jesus is a good thing because God will be sitting behind me when I turn those near 200+ mph quarter mile et's (I hope).

Who wants to donate money for the race bike? You get a tax write off PLUS maybe an appreciative nod from the big man upstairs!

I have nothing against small fast cars that are affordable. I like the Evo (if its the one with direct injection and the supercharger turbo or engine driven). They make fantastic hp from a few liters. I even owned one of the first ford 4 banger performance cars, the Mustang SVO. It was fast and could not be beat in the curves. But I will forever love the push rod V-8, even though they are not available in fords today. Chevy still puts one or did until recently in the Vette and made plenty of HP. Anyway I like the new mustangs with their OHC all alloy 400+ hp V-8's (naturally aspirated and over 500 hp supercharged). The sound..the HP...love it! I don't really like the new styling because they have already been there in the 60's and 70's. They are too big as well. I liked them better before they changed to retro styling.

Anyway, as I said earlier, give me the street version of the car that stomped Ferrari on its own turf, Le Mans a ford Cobra. Ford Cobra Daytonas dominated racing at Daytona, Sebring, the Nürburgring and Reims, and won at Le Mans. All cobras including street versions had an all aluminum body. Some had 289 cubic inch or 427 NASCAR side oilers. My dream Cobra would be updated with a five or six speed trans, a supercharger and Air, and an autobahn! Then it would be 'get outta my way or race me' ! Ha ha~ Man those are beautiful, brutally fast cars.

Ps if I lived in Germany where I really could access the autobahn, I would rather have the hard top version of the AC cobra, its called the Daytona Coupe named for the race. The convertibles aerodynamics are not designed for the 200mph + speed the cars are capable of.

problem with ford is that their cobra is their best car

with chevy they have the camaro SS to compete with the mustang but the corvette sits in a higher class of its own

Z06 corvette will beat any cobra mustang in its sleep

A small correction if I may; it was the Ford GT40s which 'stomped the Ferraris' at Le Mans (not the Daytona Cobra - which only finished first in its class in 1964). The GT40, which was designed by Eric Broadley of Lola fame, and built in the UK, was a British car. The only thing Ford about the car was the badge and the money. :)

Well I know that Banks are being regulated but I had no Idea'r that
they now have carbs.I believe that I suggested that phrases like
    " Six-pack " and " Cowl Induction" are more a selling point.
Now question about that. You don't sell a car by calling it a
    " Donkey ".Therefore words like " Mustang " or " Cobra ".
    Got it now.

I hate to disillusion you, but the AC Cobra will bring you little joy on German autobahns. They mostly look like this:
