I do not expect anyone with left-wing politics to contribute to this thread, as I am sure they will do everything they can to find some reason to be offended by Thanksgiving. Well, outside of the left, for us real Americans, what did you do for Thanksgiving? Well, here is what we did. For dinner, a brined turkey, wild rice with cranberries, mashed potatoes, gravy, Brussels sprouts with bacon and garlic, honey baked ham...we had this with Riesling and a rose wine. For dessert, it was apple cranberry pie with Lagunitas Brown Shuggah beer, a very good, but not perfect pairing. Pumpkin pie with KBC Pumpkin ale...a perfect pairing!!! Then of course, there was the tradition, chocolates from Beacon Hill, paired with Red Breast Irish Whiskey. One of these days, we will have the perfect pairings, we are almost there, but one never stops learning. Can't wait to post about Christmas...there, I said it, Christmas dinner.

Sounds wonderful -- lemme know what time you'll be serving Christmas dinner!!!

Celebrated our time-honored tradition of eating too much turkey & dressing... and watching the Cowboys lose.

I could use an Alka Seltzer.

It was just my immediate family for the most part---and my kids are sooooo picky---so my meal wasn't as grand as yours. Sage stuffing, Ham, Rock Cornish Hens, Bing Cherry Jello that was way tooo firm (too much knox), delmerico potatos, pasta salad, Sweet Potatos, Apple pie. Red Wine after dinner. Summer sausage, vegie dip, olives, pickles.

I took some food over to my Mother In Law who is homebound--and spent some time with her. On Saturday we are ordering Rib Crib and will spend the day at her house.

Had some relatives over. Made an apricot/whiskey glazed ham on the charcoal grill.

I burnt an American flag, after inviting a tribe of Native Americans over to watch me flagellate myself with a 'cat o nine tails'.

Nah, just ate too much, and enjoyed the company of family.

What a very strange stance.. Do you always think like that?

I had dinner with family.. and my contribution was an ambrosia without dairy or marshmellows. We recited and sang and had a fine time..

Other than pigging out and enjoying the company of friends and family?

i'll tell you what I did

I watched the Detroit Lions get absolutely s c r e w e d by the refs . A ref is not supposed to affect the outcome of a game and this is a case where that is exactly what occurred. I think the result should be overturned and the victory handed to Detroit

I volunteered at the Lambert airport USO greeting our troops, making sure their layover was a comfortable one. I've learned my skills in ping-pong have deteriorated.

Every year we invite friends over that are "not from 'round here", that aren't going home to their family and have what we call the "transplant thanksgiving". Aside from that I watched the pats win, suh's thugs & Romo's cowgirls go down so it was a good day!

We have a tradition around family feasts and holidays.. Everyone contributes.. and most recite a poem or prayer or sing a song.. Sometimes we do rounds..

We always have champagne and for those who don't drink we have iced cold sparkling apple juice.

So how was YOUR Thanksgiving, B?

Not surprised to hear Dallas lost, until lunatic Jones gets rid of Romo, Dallas will continue to fail. Can't watch them anymore, Jones has ruined the team with his egomania.

Other than that, wonderful dinner with family out at the home in the forest, plenty of corn set out for the deer, but didn't see any that day. Pigged out on turkey, dressing, pecan pie and my apricot pie, I love apricots. ;-)

Yeah, yeah... your family's gatherings are always more special than everybody elses. At least by the time they get reported here anyway.

My Thanksgiving was great. We all dressed up like Indians & Pilgrims and burned a turkey at the stake while holding hands and singing Kumbaya.

Just ate too much and hung out with family, watched them start a little drama with one another forcing my dad's brother and his family to leave in a hurry and huff.

Otherwise it was pretty boring. I think I would have rather have stayed home with my hunny and made our own Thanksgiving dinner that didn't include a dry turkey.

More special? You evidently have a problem.. That's just what we do and have always done.. Even Cinco de Mayo .. we play mariachi music, dress up like Mexicans and have Mexican food.

We have lots of singers, amateur theater people, actors and artists in this big family

That actually sounds like a lot of fun. And you're making me hungry for Mexican food now. LOL!

We celebrate EVERYTHING.. Get a raise? There will be a banner and a cake. Lose a baby tooth? Some sort of celebration..

Years ago we use to gather at a tiny cottage on the river and have a massive potluck picnic for Thanksgiving.. and hired a local man to cook a black iron cauldron of chicken and rice with sausage and ham.. outdoors over a fire.

Families can create traditions and have a lot of fun.

My dad's side of the family tried really hard to create family traditions to bring us all together and such but since none of us really get along it makes it hard to enjoy those traditions or even want to see each other. Plus they make you feel obligated to be there and to participate. Families should want to be together not feel forced to see one another once or twice a year at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I really wish I had a more close knit family. I will probably end up just holding small family traditions within my own little family unit with my future hubby and kids and then branch off from there when I'm a granny someday.

We generally get along... and that's about choice I guess.

My point is that some families have more money than others, but creating a tradition doesn't require a great deal of money.. If you have a lot of money, you could rent a huge beach house and order up a turkey, ham and brisket.. or rent ponies for Christmas

But, you could also have a picnic in a park with a seafood boil.

IMO.. the key is CELEBRATE every chance you get.

I gave thanks, of course, for having a Democrat president for each of the last four years and for each of the next four years.
