A while back someone asked what religion had done for the world. Well, I would like to know what atheism has done for the world, aside from murdering and destroying on a mass scale.

It's against their religion to impose on society... except for when they are murdering the opposition.

Allowed for a lifting of the veil which led to advancement and societal growth. As Atheism would entail the removal of Dogmatic influences humankind has an increased freedom to "think" beyond the limitations imposed by a God.

Christians like Issac Newton had already lifted that veil. But yes, I can see the influences of atheism, it caused the bloodiest century in history.

Would you agree that modern civilized moral standards are a product of religion? If not, then what veil are you referring to?

I fail to see how not believing in a God entity could lead to "The Bloodiest Century" in history. Atheism had nothing to do with war....

"Hey folks, I'm gonna kill you because I don't believe in God, but you do".

Seems to me it usually works the opposite way.

I take it you are referring to 'Western" modern civilized moral standards.....in which case there would be an obvious influence from Christianity. If you are referring to other parts of the world, there would be influences from other religions equally as obvious. I would also point out that your underlying and veiled reference to Hitler and Stalin or whatever deals not with Atheism, but with bad people who happen to dislike religion.

It was more along the lines of, "Hey folks I'm going to kill you because you believe in God, therefore, you will not accept me as your Supreme Ruler."

Unfortunately, that happened to millions of people from 1900-1999.

The biggest mass murderers in history have been atheists, I already named them. They hated the Church, they hated their own people. Made ISIS look like pikers.

WTF are you talking about? Granted there have been many cases of religious persecution....but this is usually done by another religion, not by an Atheist.

Perhaps you might provide the Data to back up your position?

Obviously there were other reasons but that was a common theme. I'm on my phone but feel free to Google the op's references.

Stalin has your numbers beat even when you exclude the 20 million soldiers he sacrificed.

C'mon people, we have a "Presbyterian Health System" where I live, there is no "Atheist Health Care System", no Atheist Downtown Mission, no atheist homeless shelters, not even an atheist tabernacle choir. Nothing. Atheists have done nothing for mankind except (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about what the Church does.

The Nazis stopped celebrating Christmas, and the Hitler Youth recited a prayer thanking the Fuhrer rather than God for their blessings. Clergy regarded as "troublemakers" were ordered not to preach, hundreds of them were imprisoned, and many were simply murdered. Churches were under constant Gestapo surveillance. The Nazis closed religious schools, forced Christian organizations to disband, dismissed civil servants who were practicing Christians, confiscated church property, and censored religious newspapers. Poor Sam Harris cannot explain how an ideology that Hitler and his associates perceived as a repudiation of Christianity can be portrayed as a "culmination" of Christianity.

Sounds more like atheism to me.

Yeah, people have a tendency to find faith in situations like that. Similar to the old saying "you will never find an Atheist in a fox hole." Such a common phrase Atheists adopted their version of it.

It's freed up a lot of people's Sunday mornings for football! It makes the lines at the grocery store shorter, too!

Such as denying gays the basic civil right of marriage?
