One can be Atheist concerning Religion and defined godheads...yet agnostic concerning possibilities of something beyond.

I will say very clearly and with absolute conviction that I do not believe in the many Gods we have created. This does not mean I close my mind to every other possibility.

OR one has an OPEN mind and knows nothing we don't know is "clearly defined" and there are more than just two or three possibilities.

would that be out of ten?

Of course agnostic atheism makes absolute sense and conforms to LOGIC and analysis of all available empirical evidence so far.

I am agnostic because god cannot be proven or disproven.

I am atheist because in the absence evidence I simply do not believe in the supernatural.

Which means IMHO god/creator along with Zeus, Mithras, Dracula, Freddy Kruger, werewolves, valhalla, paradise, heaven, hell and other assorted creatures and places, are all figments of that imagination rich supernatural universe.

My agnosticism merely acknowledges I may be wrong, and if proven to be the case I will merely say, "damn I was wrong where do I sign up?"

If a theist should be proven to be wrong, it will be a rather more traumatic transition I reckon.

You never heard of Richard Dawkins? Interesting. He's a big deal among atheists.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this point.

    - - - Updated - - -

Like Jesse Jackson making a ton of cash off of black victimization and Rush Limbaugh making a ton of cash off a extreme right wingers, Richard Dawkins has made a ton of cash off of atheists.

Seriously? I ask if 6.9 or 7 is out of ten and you come back with the above? do you usually engage in such gigantic leaps in content comprehension?

Yes I agree, you are allowed to be wrong.

    Here's a visual aid.

Your point being? Interesting that you equate people you don't agree with making money, and their veracity. Kinds blows the hole political finance system out of the water.

    Thanks for the insult.

Can I safely assume you've never heard of Richard Dawkins? You never answered the question. If you have, then you know the Dawkins Believe Scale has as an upper limit and you are engaging in deception and lying. If you have not, then follow this link for an example since the previous link didn't satisfy you:

Do you believe in Reality as a "God" that will make you extinct if you do not bow down to it?
Or, can you see that Truth is a savior from this fate?

Oh, I definately agree that beliefs can be invalid - and religious beliefs often are! But what value does an invalid belief have?

    Your missing an Agnostic Category.

AGNOSTIC......a person who adheres to a strict Scientific Method based LOGIC....and such a person understands that even though Probability dictates that any supposed GOD existing in the way advertised by any and all Monotheistic Religious Texts on Earth.....would be IMPROBABLE IN THE EXTREME....since such a GOD at this time cannot be PROVEN NOT TO EXIST....a minute but NOT ZERO% PROBABILITY does exist backing such a possibility.

But then again there does exist a NOT ZERO% PROBABILITY that a person could win the Lottery 5 Times in a ROW all the while each time that happens also that person get's struck by LIGHTNING on a CLEAR SUNNY DAY...while wearing an all RUBBER SUIT....while being 1000 feet below the ocean surface in an Ohio Class Submarine....and all 5 Times this person won the Lottery and got struck by lightning....the Winning Lottery Tickets this person had all 5 times were FOUND by that person as all 5 Winning Lottery Tickets were blown by the wind into this persons POCKET....while the person was standing atop the Empire State Building.

NOW....as improbable what I just typed about this 5 times Lottery Winning and Lightning Struck person is...WHO LIVED.....and still lives.......the PROBABILITY that a GOD exists as advertized by Religious Text....is MUCH...MUCH....TINNIER A PROBABILITY.

I would have better ODDS betting on LUCKY 6 TIME WINNER!!! LOL!!!

So are Bill Donahue (head of the Catholic League) who hates everyone except a few dead popes and Pastor John Hagee of Texas who hates Catholicism. Both very angry Christian men. People get angry. Lynn Cheney is about the angriest.

I've said this before but if you can just get past the religious crap, God makes sense.

People mistake me for an atheist. I'm not. I just can't stand religion or religionists.

I am also often mistaken for an Atheist.

A person does not have to be RELIGIOUS to have SPIRITUALITY.

Insult? you make a huge leap to conclude I don't know who Dawking's is, because I asked you is that 6.9 or later 7.0 comment was out of a scale of ten? And I am insulting you?

You must have led a very protected life to think my comment was an insult.

Yes, on an internet forum one is always safe to assume, even when that assumption is completely out to lunch and wholly unsubstantiated.

I am after all an agnostic atheist.

    What "immoral " behavior ?

Sounds like the fear of being guilty is the only thing that keeps you in line. Atheists just behave anyway, they don't need fear to keep them behaving....

No the chart includes agnostics of both stripes. An pure agnostic with no opinion one way or other about the existence of god, would fall on the agnostic line between atheism and theism.

I try to avoid probability arguments because theists simply claim - see god can beat any odds.

they even try distort Penrose's calculations wrt the chances of the low entropy of the nascent universe being formed by "chance", which is really a funny little exercise meant to be his "shroedinger cat" analogy to try and convey the "specialness" (purely scientific definition).

But they are also perfectly fine with turning right around and rejecting the probabilities of another earth like planet with life existing in the universe, despite similar odds.

Now if you ever do win the lottery 5 times, can I have your 6th ticket please?

Up North from me in Northwestern Massachusetts is a town where an old girlfriend of mine lived and she worked for this guy who moved here from Norway and his name...and I kid you not...was THOR.

Now people from Norway....even though originally being Vikings...in this day and age are laid back IN THE EXTREME.

Thor was like this and if I happend to drive up a bit early to meet my girlfriend he would just let her leave work early and as I have been to Norway...Thor and I got along well and had something in common to talk about.

Scandanavian countries are EXTREMELY TOLLERANT....much more so than American's....of people of different race, culture and creed.

Now American's in GENERAL...are tollerant as well but it is only a small percentage of Intollerant Radicals doing all the screaming that might make people from other nations reading a forum like this think otherwise.

But having been to Norway and all of Scandanavia I understand why they and Thor are so laid back and tollerant.

It is because they do not come into contact with numerous other people to anywhere NEAR the extent that American's do and in one day the Average American comes into contact with as many people as people in Scandanavia see in a MONTH or MORE.

Thor told me when he first came to Massachusetts...and believe me where he set up his business was a town with only about 9,000 people living in it in some of the most beautiful country on the Planet....he told me he had a hard time dealing with the MASSES OF AMERICAN'S....and Thor even told me he had a hard time dealing with TRAFFIC when he drove to work in a town of only 9,000!!!!

Norway in the Winter has it's Festivals and Fun but it is but for a short period and then the harsh winter tends to create a high level of seclusion.

Thus Scandanavian's tend to really enjoy GUESTS!!!

TICKET AND ELECTRICAL SHOCK ARE YOURS!!! LOL!!!

I have no issue with people who are Religious and mind their own business.

I only get testy when such people start thinking they must tell ME how I should live or think.

I had a VERY FUNNY Christmas last year and I was happy to be home in the states and my Uncle invited their friends over for Christmas Eve Dinner.

This couple was very nice and they had adopted a boy who was fun....but when the kid started talking about the CAVEMEN that were around back when T-Rex was walking around....I gave him a radio controlled T-Rex on wheels that had legs that moved back and forth but had wheels on the bottom.

I told the kid...."No....Dinosaurs died out 65 Million Years ago and Humans and our Ancient Ancestors had only been around for a bit more than 5 Million Years so I told the kid that Humans and Dinosaurs did not live at the same time.

    BIG MISTAKE.

The MOTHER of this kid went from being a pleasant woman to a T-REX!! LOL!!!

She told me that the Earth was under 6000 years old and etc...etc...etc.

I appologized for talking REALITY with her son as I did not know she was a Highly Religious Baptist....so I said sorry and the night moved on.

And at that point I would say I was the one who was telling others what to believe even though I was talking REALITY...but hey....to each his own right? WRONG!!

This woman came up to me after dinner and after going out to her car...brought me leaflets that had titles like....THINKING ABOUT SAVING YOUR SOUL FROM ETERNAL DAMNATION?

And.....WHY THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION MUST BE SAVED.

    I was...STUNNNED.

She would not let up and I did not want to create a sceen at my Uncles home so I kept my mouth shut and sucked it up.

    You have it completely wrong.

Atheists morals are not "revealed" to them. They must determine them for themselves.
Consequently they generally have thought considerably more about moral behaviors than the average theist.

the kicker of course is with an atheist he must live his life knowing that for him there is no guilt assuaging knowledge that an end of life repentance expunges a lifetime of hypocritical immorality. An atheist has to go to his grave "owning " ALL of his immorality and live his life with whatever guilt that immorality may cause him.

Its a lot harder to be an atheist than theists like to believe.

Most of the atheists I know have no problem with other people's religious beliefs, either. why should they? Atheists don't have to fight over whose version of god is the right one.

But if those religious people knock on my door, then I have no trouble in telling them what I think of their dogma (generally and specifically), while respecting their right to believe what they will.

You displayed good manners in restraint, which is far more than could be said about the guest in question.

    Cheers.

I was restrained because it was Christmas Eve and I was at my Uncles home.

If they come knocking at my door at 9 am on a Saturday....and I had just gone to bed 30 minutes earlier after an all nighter with the girls....I am going to be testy to say the least!!

They don't come to my home anymore.

But still....IT IS ANOYING AS HELL!!!

As far as I am concerned a person can believe what they want as long as no one is getting hurt....but do NOT come to my home and wake me up to try to push some Religious Ideology!!

If you have twenty minutes to spare watch this.

    http://www.ted.com/talks/jim_holt_why_does_the_universe_exist?language=en

The universe is what it is. Its fun to think about what it all comes from and what it might mean, we have been doing it for thousands of years.
