A few different lessons can be learned from the Zimmerman case, and maybe even quite a few. Please state what you think is the main lesson that people should derive from this whole fiasco and tragedy. Just state one. The one you thin is most important.

Here's mine >> I think the main lesson to be learned from this is that when you are in Florida (and lots of other states as well), keep your hands to yourself. DO NOT go putting your hands on anyone else who does not request you to. If you do, you are technically guilty of having committed a battery (Florida Statute 784.03). And definitely DO NOT attack somebody physically. If you do, you may be shot.

This is especially important for teenagers to know, as they are used to going around and just punching other kids, while not being held responsible for their actions, either by the law, or by teachers, or by anyone. In the adult world, they could be held responsible for it by a licensed gun owner, who may shoot them to death. Parents: make sure your kids know this.

I learned that I probably shouldn't walk to the 7-11 when I need another bottle of Thunderbird.

WOW, you think he was shot in a 7-11 buying Thunderbird?

I agree with your assesment of the primary lesson, only it shouldn't aply only in Florida. General lesson, attack someone physically, you might get shot and killed.

The OP asked what have we learned. I assumes he meant what did we take away that we should apply to our own personal life...

Watching and reading responses throughout this circus is teaching me many things about human behavior.

And this case taught you that lesson....exactly how?

    I have a few:

    1) If you think someone is following you and you are being threatened and you have a cell phone, call 911. Not sure why Traytard didn't call 911 instead of hanging on the phone with that fat skank. Seems common sense to say "I will call you back, fatso" and then hang up and dial 911.

    2) If you are in a neighborhood watch and see thug doggy dogg sneaking around, don't get out of your car. Keep the engine running and call 911. Maybe take a few photos from your phone if possible. If the guy gets within about 100 meters of you, put it in gear and get back to that distance. The odds of some thug killing you with a sidearm round from 100 meters is very low. The bullet drop at 100 meters will easily be a foot or more if the gun was sighted in at 10 meters, and most of these gangsta idiots don't exactly spend an hour or two at a range every week anyway. Snoop Dogg isn't going to fare very well at that distance.

    3) If you are involved in a shooting, don't talk to the cops. If Zimmerman kept his piehole shut, nobody on this board would be saying the guy has conflicting statements. Why did he keep opening his mouth? Don't do that!

    4) If you are a parent, don't let your little thug kid out of the house at night, especially in the rain or snow. Tell him to stay home and work on his homework. Don't let him smoke pot, don't let him get gold teeth, don't let him wear thug poopie pants and thug hoodies. Dress him for success and raise him with the right morals and high self esteem so he doesn't feel he has to hang out with those thug morons. If he wants skittles, drive with him to 7-11 and get the damn junk food or just tell him to eat an apple instead. Skittles are unhealthy anyway.

Excellent assessment. Justifiable whup a$$ against a suspected gay, just like honorable warfare are lies spread by bullies to make sure the powerless play by THEIR rules and therefore get their heads kicked in. Before Iran develops nukes and a long range delivery system it is my sincere hope that America outgrows it's adolescence and doesn't have to learn this valuable lesson the hard way.

The main lesson to be learned is don't go to Florida for a vacation if you are partial to the night life on a rainy evening.

They merely need a 100 foot sailboat as a delivery system. Smart people don't live in DC, NYC, Boston, Miami, LA, Seattle, or San Fran right about now.......

Oh yeah. I learned that if you tack on the words "for Treyvon" onto the title of every thread, it's insightful.

"Marginal utility of money ...for Treyvon"
"House Republicans Prepare Harsh New Debt Ceiling Demands ...for Treyvon"
"I suggest that 'fundamentalist' threads be moved to conspiracy theories ...for Treyvon"

I learned there are a hell of a lot more bigots and racists in this country than I thought.

I learned the same thing! Though I suspect my list of bigots and racists will be slightly different from yours.

The lesson to learn is simple: Don't jump on people if they look at you. Teach it to your kids if you want them to be safe. They should run away from conflict not run towards it and start something. Trayvon thought he could beat on an adult but George wasn't having it. He capped that violent punk and now is a free man.

    I learned...
...that the media can take someone who:

    +mentored minority kids

+tried to raise awareness of police ignoring the beating of a black man

+took a black girl to the prom

+was a registered Democrat and Obama supporter

    +and was part black himself

... and turned him into the modern day version of Bull Connor or George Wallace. And without the slightest shred of evidence. I find that remarkable that so many people were taken in on a basically fact free position and I'm also surprised that the media decided to do it. I mean, there are real racists who do stuff! Maybe this was a test run to see how gullible the public really is. Really gullible it seems.

The main lesson that should have been learned is that if you are not guilty of something, don't act like you are.
