    "
    How deductibles work
For dollar amount deductibles, a specific amount would come off the top of your claim payment.

For example, if your policy states a $500 deductible, and your insurer has determined that you have an insured loss worth $10,000, you would receive a claims check for $9,500.

Percentage deductibles generally only apply to homeowners policies and are calculated based on a percentage of the home’s insured value. So if your house is insured for $100,000 and your insurance policy has a 2 percent deductible, $2,000 would be deducted from any claim payment. In the event of the $10,000 insurance loss, you would be paid $8,000. In the event of a $25,000 loss, your claim check would be $23,000."

We done with that part of the discussion now? I dont think you're a Trump supporter, but we have a thread on this very thing. Iv gone through this before. And iv worked for an insurance company.

The other way makes no sense for anyone..you pay the deductible then get denied?

LOL...I am not sure what you THINK that you have proven, but are you aware that you are quoting home insurance parlayance in a discussion about health insurance? We are not discussing an insured loss, rather we are talking about when does health insurance begin paying with a given deductible amount with a specific health insurance policy.

The fact remains....a deductible must be met prior to health insurance paying for services rendered ( with the obvious exception of physicals and run of the mill wellness visits and the like where only the copay must be paid)

It is great that you have worked for an insurance company, but that experience in some way has you at a point where you are confused. I work in medical sales and have worked with deductibles a fair amount over the years.

Nobody is doing anything to me. I am simply pointing out the reality that a deductible must be met prior to health insurance paying out anything on medical claims (with a few obvious exceptions where only the copay must be paid).

You have to get approved first... What ends up happening is your policy wont cover the full amount so they want cash up front including the deductible. If you're covered for say 100k, they charge 120k..cause they can.

If you have a 5k deductible, and break your leg and it is a 3k charge, the insurance pays nothing on that claim. If you were to then have another 3k charge, the health insurance would pay 1k because you have then met your deductible and have exceeded that amount by 1k. This principle has not one thing to do with what is collected at the times of services. Most offices at the time of service only collect copays or coinsurance as with Medicare at 20%. There are some simple lab work, physical type procedures that do not require that your deductible is met and in those instances they may charge you at time of service for the amount they know your insurance does not cover. I think it is that aspect that has you confused.

But they note it down, increase your premium, they may drop you, etc..Its best to save it for catastrophic occurrences. Like i was telling the other dude..they have medishare for minor crap like that.

If that's the policy anyone lost..they lost it cause they're a high risk kluts.

For starters, if you are in a group plan which is like 80% of the people, they do not increase premiums/drop you for any reason whatsoever. Secondly, even if not in a group plan a small 3k claim or anything similar is not going to either increase your premium, and it is most certainly not going to cause them to drop you. That type of thing would be for something serious like a long term expensive chronic illness. Not a broken leg. The left has done a lot of exxagerating on this topic and it has a lot of people convinced that people were being dropped left and right prior to the ACA, and that simply is not the case. It was always a very rare event and for those not in a group plan.

Actually before the ACA, people would get laid off because of stuff like that as well. The ACA helped out in that regard.

Not legally, and if we are going to say that against the law it happened on extremely rare ocassions, that would be for a tiny employer with maybe 5 or 10 employees. For a group plan of 100 or more it makes little to no difference and there would not be an incentive for an employer to do that.

The left views government as a solution to problems while those of us on the right view it as more of a problem than a solution. That means that the left like government power and control while those of us on the right prefer more freedom. Obamacare is a strong example of government power and control so the left supports it. I don't think it is any more complicated than that.

For 2021, the maximum out of pocket amount (deductible, copays, coinsurance) will be $8,150 for an individual, for any marketplace plan not just bronze.
    https://www.healthcare.gov/glossary/out-of-pocket-maximum-limit/

The limit will be $7,000 for individual ACA-compliant HSA high-deductible plans
    https://www.healthinsurance.org/faq...l-i-still-be-able-to-have-them-under-the-aca/

Roughly twice these amounts for family plans.

Pretty much all red states huh? Explains why they thought it was Obama's fault..nope. It was their sleezy employers seeking to cut costs. The goal is a market friendly single payer system. Get the costs of healthcare away from employers. More money in everyones pocket.

When the ACA first came out, I got a raise cause I was in the apprentiship, and the small business employers could just give us the cash instead of paying for health insurance. I got a $13/hr raise. And sense Im a Vet and had free medical I didnt have to get a health plan, so was just pure profit..shoulda been the same for everyone..but nope, blame the tea party.

Your post is not a logical reply to the post of mine to which you are replying. I think that is what they call a non sequitur.

If we had a single payer system nether one would be paying high cost.

Nope..its called circling back to the point. Single payer is the goal, with it everyone gets to keep more money in their pocket.
With the ACA, i managed to get a taste of that system due to my circumstance.

Taxes are going up no matter what..we just had a pandemic. If anything this would soften the blow, and give us more bang for the buck.

Please quote where you and I had been discussing single payer in any form or fashion. You are merely responding to the voices in your own head.

You're going to harp on the myth that single payer is cheaper right?
