WHAT'S THE CONSERVATIVE POSITION ON ZIMMERMAN? WHAT'S THE LIBERAL POSITION?

The Zimmerman trial gets more play on political talk shows and political forums than any other topic, but why is it even considered to be political?

There was an altercation, someone was shot dead, and there are various accounts, opinions, and speculation about what happened that will be sorted out in a court of law.

Yet some people are saying it's political and that the Republican position is “innocent,” while the Democratic position is “guilty.”

It seems to me that the conservative position has always been that Zimmerman is innocent and that the liberal position is to let the courts decide.

Which of these positions would the Founding Fathers have taken? “Innocent,” “guilty,” or “let the courts decide?”

The correct position is let the courts decide. I'm not a jurist in this case nor am I watching the broadcasts. I lean towards acquittal based on what I know but I will not push the issue. I didn't when OJ was acquitted after leaning guilty. I defended Kobe Bryant, the Duke Lacrosse players and honestly gave Michael Vick the benefit of the doubt prior to his confession. Sometimes I'm not right. Let the jury decide.

If they can prove Zimmerman deliberately killed Martin and his life wasn't in danger, he should go to jail for a long time. If not, he should be found not guilty.

The police and prosecutors made the correct decision when they refused to charge Zimmerman after the shooting. This decision was changed only after the media and black agitators and President Obama himself and his fascist DOJ put pressure on them. So Zimmerman is innocent. If he is found guilty despite his innocence, it will be a miscarriage of justice and I hope he gets it reversed in appeal.

Liberals have been treating him as if guilty from day one and a racist.

Innocent until proven guilty doesnt apply for them when racial hatred can be profitted from.

The only evidence of a racist in this case was trayvon Martin.

No most liberals called for an investigation and it is right wing loons saying he is innocent. But smear the dead kid and make the shooter a hero because you aren't the one jumping to conclusions.

Innocent until proven guilty is looney now?

Do I need to post lynching videos from the new black panther party, congressman wearing hoodies, newscasters calling him racist etc...?

Most absurdly dishonest opening post I've read in a year.

    edit: and that's saying something.

Ha! It's never been the liberal position to let the courts decide, it was that a Zimmerman, a guy with a Germanic name (and you know what that means!) shot and killed a black kid. No further details required.

It's one of those issues that shouldn't fall along political lines yet somehow does. I guess it goes to the widely divergent worldviews that the right and the left has.

There is also a black/white divide, but that one makes sense in terms of their differing worldviews.

But as far as the left in general goes, I would say it falls under two categories:

    1) The left just doesn't regard self defense as legitimate. Particularly with a gun, but they seem hostile to the concept of self defense in general and stand your ground or the Castle doctrine in particular. I think for the average leftist, all they have to hear is white (actually a stand in for white) man kills a black kid with a gun. Guilty, case closed.

    2) Race. You have to stick with your political allies so since this issue seems to have struck blacks at a visceral level, the proper leftist response is to ally with the defined victimized group. It's just good politics.

Not a political issue. A bloated public spectacle, yes.

So many people die in shootings in this country that it seems like if we make such a big deal about this one little incident (a life is precious but how many incidental gun deaths do you think happened THIS week?) we must be beyond pathetically ignorant.

I am not a gun control advocate, I am just talking facts.

The whole thing reeks of "Bonfire of the Vanities". Watch the drama freaks explode.

    Count me out.

In Great Britain, people do not have the right to defend themselves, even in their own homes. Perhaps liberals would like to import that policy to America.

I would say that the general liberal position has gone back and forth as new evidence was revealed, but is now "let the courts decide."

There shouldn't be a conservative position or a liberal position. There should only be what the facts of the case tell us. This is not, by any means, a political issue.

All you need to do is look on YouTube for videos by the Young Turks, Thom Hartmann, etc. to see that while the original view by liberals was guilty, that was based on false reports of the incident and that as more information came out they came to see that the case was complex and so they changed their views to "let the courts decide."

The legal position is that such matters are to be decided by a jury. I thought Americans believed in law.

Total bull(*)(*)(*)(*). No-one has the right to do murder, certainly. That's normal amongst human beings. Cowboys, lynchers and cowards think differently.

    Why the hell would they?

That's not a liberal position, just because the voice on the radio ordered you to believe that it is.

You assert the left has wanted to "let the courts decide"....which COULD NOT be further from the truth.
Progressives ...including their Boy King and their complicit alphabet media...have tried desperately to convict and hang Zimmerman in the court of public opinion since the onset of this entire, victim/oppressor dogma laden, progressive media manufactured affair.

That is not the case at all. The branded him a racist, Congress members made spectacles of themselves, the President came out in favor of Trayvon etc.. Nothing was fair about the way libbers conducted themselves in this trial. They practically lynched the guy to start the trial in the first place, the prosecutor didn't think there was a case. Libbers demanded it, and when a special prosecutor was appointed we all knew a charge was coming no matter what. Now the libbers are ready to riot if they don't get the verdict they want. In the mean time, racial mob violence in towns that voted for Obama is spiking. Google "flash rob racial violence" to see the hundred of Martin inspired attacks on whites in the last few months, all in towns that are Democrat blue. Without exception.

The Founding Father's position would be simple.

"Let a court of law figure it out."

I don't need to look at youtube. My memory goes back to the beginning of this issue last year. Maybe you haven't read the Zimmerman threads on this forum for the past year, but the liberal position has been that he's a murderer. Guilty, case closed.

I frankly think Zimmerman will be convicted, but if on the off chance he's acquitted, then we'll see if the liberal position is that the courts have spoken, or if they start collecting torches and pitchforks.

I think he is guilty of manslaughter. That being said. I think he will be found innocent, because the evidence just isnt there to convict. Doesnt mean he didnt commit the crime though.

It's not liberal or conservative. Zimmerman may have been "defending himself", but why did he need to be? Why was he bothring to follow Martin? I see strange black guys that I don't know walk randomly through my neighborhood all the time, I don't think twice about it! What made him think that the presence of Martin was something he specifically needed to deal with? Unless he ACTUALLY SAW Martin commiting a crime? But he doesn't even claim that.

I don't know whether this is conservative or liberal or American, but I don't think anybody should be accosted by Paul Blart Mall Cop for looking 'suspicious'. I suspect that is a conservative position turned upside down by conservatives due to the fact that the victim was a black teenager and was, therefore, MORE than suspicious.
